1. Which woman did Pea Eye help to take in her laundry?

Answer: Mary Cole

Mary Cole was the widow of Josh Cole. Pea was trying to help her get the laundry off the line before a thunderstorm could soak it all. They didn't get them in before they were both soaked through. It was a memory that occasionally came back to Pea over the years.

2. Who did Po Campo give a carving of a little woman to?

Answer: Each of the cowboys

Po Campo had given each of the cowboys a "little woman". He told them it was to remind them of their sisters. In the movie we only see him give one to Deets and as soon as he hands it to someone else, he gets killed.

3. Where did Call plan to steal horses from?

Answer: Hacienda Flores

They had planned to steal the horses from Pedro Flores, who owned the largest ranch in Coahuila. When they went into Mexico at night, they thought that things went a little too easy for them. They found out later that they didn't have to worry about Pedro coming after them because he had died.

4. What two animals did Allen and Sean have when Call, Deets and Newt first see them?

Answer: A mule and a donkey

Sean was so scared when Call spoke that he jumped on the mule and tried to run. The mule, of course, was hobbled. I still think it was one of the funniest moments in the book and the movie.

Answer: Pea Eye

Newt heard a scream and before he even had time to look, "Pea Eye went racing past him, with the Captain just behind him." I'm not sure which one was hurt the most by this, his brother Allen or Newt.

6. Who was the chief trader on the whiskey boat that Elmira took passage on?

Answer: Fowler

Fowler was the only one who spoke to Elmira. He once told her that Big Zwey wanted to "marry her". She told Fowler that he couldn't marry her and Fowler laughed. He said, "He don't know that".

7. What was the name of Roscoe's horse?

Answer: Memphis

Ed was a snake that Roscoe met on the way. Mud Pie was one of Gus's horses. Sabinas is a little town about a day's ride southeast of Lonesome Dove.

8. Gus offered Lorena $50.00; how much did he offer Lippy to keep his mouth shut?

Answer: $10.00

Lippy kept this information to himself until Call, Gus, Deets, Newt and Pea Eye had left to go after the Suggs Brothers. He then told Dish, who promptly told him he shouldn't have blabbed. Lippy assured him that the story would go no further.

9. What was July's sister-in-law Peach's real name?

Answer: Mary

When July received a telegram from her, it was signed "Your sister-in-law, Mary Johnson."

10. What did Gus ask Call to take back to Texas along with his body?

Answer: The sign he had made in Lonesome Dove

Gus said he considered the sign his masterpiece. He wanted Call to take it back and stick in over his grave.
