Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character from Stephanie's past plays a prominent role in this book?

Answer: Dickie Orr

Dickie is Stephanie's ex-husband. As usual, she goes a bit ballistic in his company. Joe Morelli gets to spend time with him too, and learns just how obnoxious he is. Sally Sweet is the cross-dressing musician who has appeared in a few of the books.

The other names I made up - I swear Evanovich gets her character names from my high school yearbook (I'm from Jersey originally), so I did the same by combining different names from my past.
2. Who goes with Stephanie and Lula to witness her confrontation with her ex-husband?

Answer: Connie Rosolli

Stephanie is actually going to plant a bug on Dickie. Connie and Lula tag along because they're sure it's going to be a good show. They help Stephanie concoct a semi-plausible reason for needing Dickie's services.
3. Several people die a fairly grisly death in this book. What weapon is used to dispatch these individuals?

Answer: flamethrower

Their bodies are rendered unrecognizable, and then the place they are in is torched to further obscure the evidence.
4. We learn Tank's first name in this book and understand why he doesn't want everyone to know it. What is his given name?

Answer: Pierre

Tank is injured and taken to the hospital, thus his real name is provided. Lula causes a scene at the hospital and is asked to leave.
5. Stephanie decides to get back at her arch-rival, Joyce Barnhardt, by leaving an exploding taxidermy specimen on her doorstep. What type of stuffed animal blows up, ruining Joyce's hair?

Answer: beaver

One of the "FTA" or "failure to appear" folks that Stephanie is trying to re-bond is a taxidermist who also creates these "action pieces." The beaver comes complete with a remote control, so Stephanie and Lula detonate it after Joyce takes it inside her home.
6. Which person from the law firm disappears first?

Answer: Zabar

Ziggy Zabar is the firm's accountant. That's how Ranger gets involved in this one - Ziggy's brother Zip works for RangeMan and asks for help after he disappears.
7. Grandma Mazur does a favor for one of Stephanie's "failure to appear" targets so that he will be willing to go down to the station to post bond again. What does Grandma do for Carl Coglin?

Answer: wait for the cable company

Coglin has been holed up waiting months for the cable company to come - whoever hears his story completely sympathizes with him. Grandma housesits and makes sure the cable guys do what they're supposed to. Carl brings her a present later to say thanks.
8. Stephanie gets trapped by a security person (synonym - goon) but manages to escape by causing some injury to his private parts. What does she use to render him temporarily incapacitated?

Answer: staple gun

Later he gets the tip of his pinky shot off; you'd think he'd learn a lesson!
9. Simon Diggery is another of Stephanie's "failure to appear" quarry. His usual modus operandi is grave robbing, but Stephanie keeps encountering him pursuing another line of business. What semi-legitimate service does Simon provide?

Answer: prepares tax returns

He sets up shop in the mall and out of the back of a vehicle. The lines are long for his services. He finally agrees to go with Stephanie to the station after April 15, and she decides to have him help with her taxes as well.
10. Stephanie and Joe finally plan a wedding in this book.

Answer: False

Nope. She's still tempted by Ranger but stuck on Joe. Sigh. I would love to read a description of any wedding with Grandma Mazur involved.
