The circus bugs thought Flik hired them to perform for a banquet for the grasshoppers. However, when the child ants do presentations for the "Warrior bugs" such as a mural and a play of them killing the grasshoppers, they tell Flik that they are circus bugs not warrior bugs.

The circus bugs and Flik then call for an emergency private meeting where they angrily accuse each other of lying and false advertising. The circus bugs then leave. Flik desperately tries to convince them to stay. What ultimately works is him pointing out that there's a bird nearby. Dot follows Flik to try to get him to return, but that puts her in danger of being eaten by the bird. Flik and the circus bugs then rescue Dot and the other ants, thinking that the "Warrior bugs" were demonstrating their abilities, applaud the circus bugs and ask for their autographs, giving them the kind of attention they always wanted but never got as circus bugs and convincing them to pretend to be circus bugs.

Answer: A fake bird

Once Flik, Dot, and the circus bugs escaped from the real bird, the other ants applaud them. Atta personally congratulates Flik on his bravery saying that "Even Hopper is afraid of birds." This gives Flik an idea to build a fake bird that they can operate like an airplane that will scare off the grasshoppers.

The "Warrior bugs" take credit for the idea so that no one will know that Flik accidentally brought circus bugs to the island. The ants and the circus bugs build the fake bird and hide it in the trees, to be deployed when the grasshopper arrive.

After learning that the "Flaming Death" act was very popular despite not going the way it was supposed to go, P.T. Flea comes to ant island looking for the circus bugs. By doing this, he reveals to all the ants that the "Warrior bugs" are really circus bugs. To make matters worse, the circus bugs tell the ants that the idea to construct a fake bird was Flik's idea and not theirs. As a result, Flik gets expelled from the island and has to join the circus.

Answer: Molt

While the grasshoppers are partying in Mexico, a few of them at the bar talk about not going back to Ant Island. They convince Molt to tell Hopper because Molt is Hopper's brother and the only one that Hopper might listen to. Molt does tell Hopper, but that only makes him mad.

When Molt tells Hopper that they shouldn't go back to Ant Island. Hopper gets mad. Molt confesses it was the grasshoppers at the bar who convinced him to tell him that. Hopper then goes to the bar to demonstrate why they need to go back to Ant Island.

He starts by throwing one grain of food at two of them and asks if it hurt. They both say "No." Then, he unleashes all the food that they have. The pile of food falls right on the three grasshoppers at the bar, killing them. Hopper sees this happen but doesn't seem to care. Hopper then tells the grasshoppers that they need to go back to Ant Island to prove that they are the bosses of the ants, otherwise the ants, who outnumber the grasshoppers 100 to one, might rebel against them.

Answer: He gets expelled from the island.

He had previously been expelled from the island, but the other ants told Flik to find warrior bugs. The other ants, except for Dot, thought he would never find any warrior bugs that would want to help ants so they thought that by doing this, they were getting rid of Flik forever.

He returns with a group of bugs that he thinks are warrior bugs and he tells the other ants that. Then, the other ants ask the child ants to make a mural of the "Warrior bugs" killing the grasshoppers, and then they do a play showing the warriors killing the grasshoppers, the circus bugs confess to Flik that they are circus bugs not warrior bugs.

This makes both Flik and the circus bugs angry, each of whom felt that the other lied to them. So, the circus bugs tried to leave the island and Flik tries to encourage them to stay, but they only retreat back to Ant Island when they are chased by a bird.

When they get back to the island, Flik gets an idea for all the ants and circus bugs to build a fake bird that can be operated like an airplane, and Flik says it was the idea of the "Warrior bugs".

At this point in time, Flik was the only ant who knew that the "Warrior bugs" were really circus bugs. Then, P.T. Flea comes to the island looking for the circus bugs and reveals their secret. Initially, the other ants are mad at the circus bugs, thinking that they lied about being warrior bugs and that the bird idea was their idea. Francis the ladybug tells them that it was Flik's idea. Then, the other ants, except Dot, turn their outrage on Flik. Flik had lied to them about what kind of bugs he had brought back and he had also lied to them about whose idea it was to build a fake bird. The other ants never knew that Flik really did think he brought back warrior bugs at first and didn't found out later (but even after Flik found out the truth, he had continued lying about what kind of bugs those were). Flik is then told to leave and never come back. Flik is forced to join the circus.

Hopper broke off a piece of one of his minions' scales and used that to represent a leaf and dropped it on the ground to demonstrate a leaf falling while saying "We'll be back at the end of the season when the last leaf falls." The last leaf falling is mentioned again later in the movie a couple of times by the ants. Finally, we actually see the last leaf fall, and then the next thing we see is the grasshoppers returning to Ant Island. Apparently, the grasshoppers watch the trees until all the leaves fall. That must be a boring job.

When the "Warrior bugs" are revealed to be circus bugs and Flik is revealed to have lied about what kind of bugs he brought to the island and whose idea it was to build a fake bird, the queen and Atta banish Flik and the circus bugs from the island forever.

They then decide to get as much food as they can for the offering, but Hopper isn't happy with the offering. He then asks all the grasshoppers to get all the food on the island, and when they've eaten all the food, Hopper will kill the queen.

Answer: The Blueberry Scouts

The Blueberry Scouts are a group of child, female ants. They have a hideout in a blade of grass. They wear yellow leaves with black spots to signify their membership of the club. One of the grasshoppers finds one of those leaves just outside their hideout (but he doesn't notice the hideout).

He starts wearing it just for fun. Another grasshopper in the area reminds him of the grasshoppers' plan, which is to find and eat all the food on the island and then kill the queen. The grasshoppers had no idea that a group of ants overheard their plan.

Answer: Fly

After the Blueberry Scouts overhear the grasshoppers' plan to eat all the food on the island and kill the queen, Dot decides to ask Flik to come back so he can come up with an idea that will save them. She leaves the clubhouse and then accidentally bumps into Thumper, alerting him, who then alerts the other grasshoppers, to her presence. Dot is forced to run for her life, and by doing so, accidentally runs into a canyon.

It appears she is going to die, but then it turns out that her wings had grown enough that she could fly.

She then flies across the canyon, finds Flik and the circus bugs, and asks Flik to come back.
