Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which of the "Nightmare" movies, from the list below, did producer Robert Shaye NOT appear?

Answer: The Dream Child

"The Dream Child," the fifth "Nightmare" film, was a continuation of the story in "The Dream Master". In "The Dream Child", Alice's unborn child allowed Freddy to get to Alice's friends, even when she was awake.

Robert Shaye played a lecturer talking about dreams in "The Dream Master", he played the ticket seller in "Freddy's Dead", and he played the principal in "Freddy vs. Jason". His sister, Lin Shaye, also made appearances in the "Nightmare" films; she played a teacher in the original "Nightmare," and a nurse in "New Nightmare".
2. In "New Nightmare", which song did Chase Porter sing to stay awake?

Answer: Losing My Religion

The song was played while Chase was driving home from an FX job on a new "Nightmare" movie. He fell asleep while driving, and Freddy killed him.

"Losing my Religion" was a song by REM. The song was released as the first single from the group's 1991 album "Out of Time".

David Newsom, who played Chase, is a photographer as well as an actor. He continues to appear in small roles in movies such as "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", and guest roles in television shows like "Dirt".
3. In "A Nightmare on Elm Street", when Nancy ran up the stairs, they quickly turned to mush. According to Wes Craven, what was used to create this effect?

Answer: Oatmeal

In the DVD commentary of "A Nightmare on Elm Street", Wes Craven said, "It was just oatmeal." A similar effect was used in "New Nightmare", when yet another staircase turned into mush.
Although the oatmeal didn't hinder Nancy/Heather's walking as much as it seemed to in either of the movies; Heather Langenkamp managed to make it appear as though she was stuck in the stairs.

In the original "Nightmare" she was running from Freddy. In "New Nightmare", however, she ran to Freddy who had her son, Dylan, cornered.
4. Why was Grady grounded, in "Freddy's Revenge"?

Answer: He threw his grandmother down a flight of stairs.

Grady pushed his grandmother down the stairs because she got on his nerves. It was never explained how she got on his nerves, nor what her condition was after the fall. As a result of being grounded, Grady couldn't go to Lisa's house for the party she was having. He stayed home instead, where he encountered Freddy.
5. Who played the John Doe in "Freddy's Dead"?

Answer: Shon Greenblatt

The John Doe believed he was Freddy's son, only to learn moments before his death that Freddy's child was actually a girl.

Shon Greenblatt also appeared as Oscar Delancey in "Newsies".
6. How was Johnny Depp credited in "Freddy's Dead"?

Answer: Oprah Noodlemantra

Depp had a small cameo in "Freddy's Dead", playing a late night Public Service Announcer on the TV that Spencer was watching. Freddy hit him in the head with a frying pan.

This was Depp's second appearance in the "Nightmare" series, as he played Glenn in the original "Nightmare". Wes Craven almost asked him to make an appearance in "New Nightmare", but was too nervous. According to Wes Craven, he saw Johnny Depp after filming for "New Nightmare" was complete, and was surprised to learn that Depp would haven taken the role gladly.
7. Finish this quote from "New Nightmare", "Hey Dylan, ever play..."

Answer: "skin the cat?"

Freddy said the quote to Dylan while he (Freddy) was killing Julie. Freddy said it to Dylan to scare him. In this scene, Dylan fell asleep, and Freddy killed his babysitter, Julie. The only reason Dylan fell asleep was because the Nurse gave him sedatives. Julie told the nurses not to sedate Dylan, but they did anyway.
8. In "Dream Warriors", when Dr. Gordon asked Jennifer how her burns were, how did she respond?

Answer: "Regular, Menthol, Ultra-lite."

Dr. Gordan asked Jennifer that question because she had a history of burning herself with cigarettes to stay awake. Her plan eventually failed late one night watching TV, and Freddy killed her by smashing her head through a TV.
9. Who inadvertently caused Kristen's death in "The Dream Master"?

Answer: Her mother

She gave her sleeping pills, unaware that Freddy was able to get to her. She tried to go somewhere pleasant when she fell asleep, and did succeed in taking herself to a beach. However, Freddy quickly found her. Kristen was "Elm Street's last brat."
10. Besides Freddy Krueger's, whose quote was shown at the beginning of "Freddy's Dead"?

Answer: Friedrich Nietzsche

The quote was shown to belong to Nietzsche, before the actual movie began. The quote was:

"Do you know the terror of he who falls asleep?
To the very toes he is terrified,
Because the ground gives way under him,
And the dream begins."

Friedrich Nietzsche was a German philosopher.
