Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does the Bakshi family live?

Answer: Amritsar

One of the first scenes in the film begins with the words, "Amritsar~India," and the name is mentioned several times during the rest of the movie. Lalita, for instance, is referred to as the "Jewel of Amritsar". Goa is where Lalita meets Johnny Wickham, who wants to see the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
2. What does Will Darcy compare India to?

Answer: Mayhem and bedlam

"This is mayhem. This is like bedlam," Darcy says while looking around at the chaotic streets. "Good, isn't it?" Balraj replies. Balraj must have earlier described India as "a little bit like New York", because Will then asks, "What do you mean, 'it's a little bit like New York'?"
3. Balraj is annoyed at Kiran for asking if they can leave the wedding yet and tells her to, "Stop being __________."

Answer: Such a coconut

Kiran wants to leave because she doesn't enjoy Indian traditions, and Darcy would like to leave because it's "10:00 a.m. in New York and I wouldn't mind getting back just a little early so I can go through the financials on that hotel in Goa." Balraj says, to Darcy, "Will you stop working, just this once?" And to Kiran, "And you stop being such a coconut.

This is our dear, dear motherland. Enjoy it."
4. Which of the mothers stands on the stairs and, to the embarrassment of her family, sings?

Answer: Mrs. Bakshi

What Mrs. Bakshi is singing means, "With flowers in my hair, the years pass me by, but I am forever young." After that Mr. Bakshi manages to pull her away, and she thankfully stops singing.
5. Mrs. Bakshi's brother owns three franchises of what restaurant in New Jersey?

Answer: Subway

"We wouldn't have had these problems [of marrying off four daughters] if we had gone to US" Mrs. Bakshi says. "My brother did all the paperwork to sponsor us, but you didn't want to leave. Now he owns three Subway franchises in New Jersey." During her whole tirade, Lakhi shakes and nods her head, holds up her fingers, and mouths words in perfect time with her mother, indicating that this speech has been said many times before.
6. In what hotel is Darcy staying?

Answer: DN International

Darcy sees Lalita and Chandra up on the balcony talking. He comes up to see them, and after Darcy sneezes, meaning someone is thinking of him, Chandra leaves to "get a Coke." Lalita and Will Darcy hold the following conversation:

Darcy: "Can't get any work done in the hotel I'm in."
Lalita: "Which hotel's that?"
Darcy: "It's the DN International."
Lalita: "That's the best hotel in town."
Darcy: "Oh."
7. When Balraj invites Jaya to go to Goa with him, Darcy, and Kiran, Mrs. Bakshi says that it's "Jaya's chance to win Balraj once and for all. And he'll get to see her _________!" Fill in the blank.

Answer: In a swimsuit

At first Mr. Bakshi says, that it would be inappropriate for Jaya to go to Goa, but Mrs. Bakshi intervenes and says maybe Lalita can go along, too. "Are you crazy, old man?" Mrs. Bakshi asks her husband, after the others have left. Later referring to Jaya's "fine figure", Mrs. Bakshi must be hoping that when Balraj sees her in a form-fitting outfit, he'll fall for her the rest of the way.
8. Which of the following was NOT on the list for Darcy's ideal woman?

Answer: Amusing

"Darcy's a great reader," Kiran says, "in fact, I think a love of books was on his list for his ideal woman." Will says that he thinks she's had one too many Sea Breezes and to drop it, but Kiran goes on to recite the entire list, which he first told to her on "a very drunken night in Oxford".

The whole thing was: smart, speak several languages, athletic, voluptuous, graceful, witty, confident and, of course, a lover of books.
9. Kholi is Lalita's father's sister's husband's sister's son.

Answer: True

When Jaya asks who this "Kholi saab" is, Mrs. Bakshi answers impatiently, "Kholi! He's your father's sister's husband's sister's son," as if Jaya and Lalita are supposed to immediately recognize the name of their uncle-by-marriage's nephew. Kholi is coming to visit them and look at one of the Bakshi daughters for his bride. (In Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice," Kholi's equivalent is Mr. Collins, who is Mr. Bennett's cousin.)
10. During the "No Life Without Wife" song, we see Kholi and Lalita in Kohli's dream home doing various things. What word is painted on the wall behind them?

Answer: Kholiwood

On the wall behind Lalita and Kholi, there is a huge, floor-to-ceiling picture of the famous Hollywood sign, only some of the letters have been rearranged or replaced to make it read "Kohliwood."
