Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the heroine's name?

Answer: Helena

Helena was a teenage girl with a life most of us would love to have. Imagine the excitement of working in a circus! However, Helena hated it and wanted to "run away and join real life."
Our hero wasn't too taken with poor Helena's name at first. He said, "Helena. Helen. Helen-nun-nuh... it's a bit drab, isn't it? You know, you should think about changing that...". He didn't like the fact she didn't have a mask. She thought he was strange to wear one.
2. And the hero, well, anti-hero really, what was his name?

Answer: Valentine

Valentine: "...You know, you should think about changing that. Go for something with a bit of dignity and style, mixed with a bit of romance. Something like..." *thinks for a moment* "'Valentine'."
Helena: "Why? What's your name?"
Valentine: "Valentine."
Valentine was a bit of a shifty character wasn't he? Always out for a quick buck, and didn't have much remorse when he lost his companions. He even forgot their names after an hour!
3. What did this hero have that made him "A Very Important Man"?

Answer: A Tower

Valentine: "I am a very important man. I've got a tower."
Valentine's tower was a living thing, and had a mind of its own. It spoke too, usually to disagree with poor Valentine. The two were pretty much made for each other!
4. Where was the hero's place of residence?

Answer: They'd had an argument and it had run off.

Helena: "Where is your tower then?"
Valentine: "We aren't talking... We had an argument, you see."
Seems like Valentine's tower also had a stubborn streak as wide as its owner, and decided it would go off until Valentine apologised. Problem is, "Valentines do NOT apologise"!
5. What were the names of the heroine's parents?

Answer: Joanne and Morris

These names were mentioned only a few times during the movie. Helena, obviously, calls them 'Mum' and 'Dad'. Morris was the ring leader and owner of the circus, and Joanne was an acrobat and played a gorilla in a juggling act with her daughter and husband.
6. Who sent the black shadow that consumed everything in its path?

Answer: The Queen of Shadows

The Queen of Shadows was using this rather disgusting looking stuff to try to find her daughter, who had run away from home. She pretty much vomited it into the air and sent it on its way. When it had information, it turned into a spider and returned to the Queen of Shadows. It then hopped onto her face where she could look into it and see everything the spider saw.
7. What was 'The Charm' to wake the Queen of Light?

Answer: A Mask

The movie isn't called "MirrorMask" for nothing! :)
Some silly citizens tried bringing up things that weren't anything. A chicken was one, and half a brick was another. The poor Prime Minister was at his wits end telling people that their item wasn't the charm.
8. Finish this quote: "Of course, if I use the MirrorMask it may upset things a bit. But you can't run away from home without destroying someone's ________".

Answer: world

This was a quote from the letter the Shadow Princess (Anti-Helena) left in place of the MirrorMask. Valentine was the one to find it, oddly enough. Anti-Helena escaped from the mirror world, after using her visit to the Queen of Light to steal the mask. Unfortunately, her double, Helena, was the one she swapped with.
9. What did the Sphinxes (those weird cat creatures) eat?

Answer: Paper

A Really Useful Book: "My pages taste excellent but are stickier than toffee and harder to chew."
I loved that book. Helena and Valentine found it in the Library and its advice was invaluable on their travels, such as this scene. Helena stated that it was a brave book to sacrifice its pages so she and Valentine could escape from the Sphinxes.
10. Where was the final window in the real world?

Answer: On the back of an apartment door

The Shadow Princess wasn't expecting that! Helena it seemed, liked to draw anywhere, including on the outside of the door leading into her eccentric nanny's apartment. Lucky for her as it allowed her to escape back to the real world.
