Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Beatles are looking at a hole in the ice when a man surfaces and says, "White Cliffs of Dover?"

Answer: Help

The lads' first movie was "A Hard Day's Night" in black and white, released in 1964. Their second was "Help" (1965), part of which takes place in the Alps, the location of the ice scene. "Yellow Submarine" (1968) was their animated feature. "Head" was actually a Monkees movie, and if you haven't seen it, you missed one of the weirdest trips in film history.
2. A terrified judge tells a marshall why he (the judge) is leaving town.

Answer: High Noon

Judge Percy Mettrick, played by Otto Kruger, sent Frank Miller to prison for murder. Now Miller and his gang are coming back for revenge. The judge is clearing out. Will Marshall Will Kane (Gary Cooper) leave or stay? Just one brief scene from Fred Zinneman's western masterpiece.
3. A man in a bad gorilla suit, with something resembling a big goldfish bowl on his head, tries to convince a bunch of Earth morons that he is an extraterrestrial being.

Answer: Robot Monster

Some say "Plan Nine from Outer Space" is the worst movie ever made, but "Robot Monster" (directed by Phil Tucker, who must have been a friend of Ed Wood) is my candidate. It must have cost no more than ten cents and an ounce of brain matter to make this epic of ape-like ET's trying to destroy the human race. Drug use may not have been common in Hollywood at that time (1953) but I think these guys were ahead of their time!
4. Jim Carrey, using a urinal, checks out the guy at the next urinal, who then checks Jim out!

Answer: Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Jim was really looking for someone who was wearing a certain ring, but the other guy thought Jim was, well, checking out something else, and he immediately got interested!
5. Anthony Perkins runs into the room wearing a dress.

Answer: Psycho

Tony had already made "Friendly Persuasion" and "Fear Strikes Out," but "Psycho" put him on the map as an actor. His portrayal added a lot to the eerie, suspenseful mood of the film. He was born in 1932 in NYC, and died in 1992 in Hollywood.
6. A criminal tortures a cop who's tied to a chair.

Answer: Reservoir Dogs

This is the movie where the gang all have color-coded names: Mr. Green, etc. Quentin Tarantino has directed only 3 major films: "Reservoir Dogs," "Pulp Fiction," and "Jackie Brown," but a fourth, "Kill Bill," is coming in 2003.
7. Men cut up a corpse and feed the parts to vultures.

Answer: Kundun

This is the Tibetan way of disposing of the dead. "Kundun" (1997) is Martin Scorsese's film about the Dalai Lama and the Communist Chinese invasion of Tibet.
8. Hitler autographs a book for Indiana Jones.

Answer: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

In "Crusade" (1989), Michael Sheard played Hitler. The redoubtable Sean Connery played Dr. Henry Jones, Indy's dad. "I named the DOG Indiana!"
9. In what movie does student Sean Penn have a pizza delivered to him during a high school class?

Answer: Fast Times at Ridgemont High

"Fast Times" (1982) has that great swimming pool scene with Phoebe Cates.
10. Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck plan a murder in the canned goods section of a supermarket.

Answer: Double Indemnity

"Indemnity" (1944), directed by Billy Wilder and based on the James M. Cain novel, was an early film noir and one of the best.
