Answer: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

Jack Nicholson as Randle P. McMurphy to a young Brad Dourif. Jail bird McMurphy decides to take a 'holiday' in a mental hospital, but ends up on a permanent vacation from reality when he's lobotomised, thanks to the twisted Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman and James Caan were all rumoured to have been offered the role before Nicholson.
2. "Why don't we just...wait here for a little while, see what happens?"

Answer: The Thing

The last line of the film, spoken by Kurt Russell to Keith David. Has either man been taken over by the alien that gruesomely killed the other members of their Antarctic research team? Who knows? The film script (based on a 1938 short story) was written by the late Bill Lancaster, son of Hollywood legend Burt.
3. "I think what we've got on our hands...is a dead shark."

Answer: Annie Hall

Woody Allen to Diane Keaton on the state of their relationship. Allen won the Best Director Oscar in 1978 for this comic masterpiece, but did not attend the ceremony. He eventually showed up in 2002 to introduce a 'New York films' tribute, honoring the tragic events of September 11th the previous year.
4. "Look in your heart!"

Answer: Miller's Crossing

A blubbering John Turturro successfully begs Irish gangster Gabriel Byrne to spare his life. His repeat performance later in the film results in the comeback "What heart?" and a bullet in the brain. The Albert Finney role in this Coen Brothers movie was originally intended for Trey Wilson (Nathan Arizona in 'Raising Arizona'), but sadly he died before filming began.
5. "He is answering a question from a half hour ago!"

Answer: Rain Man

Charlie Babbit (Tom Cruise) has 'kidnapped' his Autistic brother Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) in an attempt to get a share of their late father's fortune. Here, he's trying to convince his angry girlfriend that Raymond doesn't know what's going on. Hoffman was originally to have played the Cruise role, but had a change of heart and won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1989.
6. "Transvestites! I need transvestites!"

Answer: Ed Wood

Edward D. Wood Jr., played by Johnny Depp, is casting for another of his terrible movies in this Tim Burton biopic. Filmaker Wood was a some-time transvestite himself and claimed to have fought in World War 2 wearing women's underwear beneath his uniform. Poor Ed didn't find fame until after his death, when a new generation of film fans named him the 'worst director of all time'.
7. "I'm a trained actor reduced to the status of a bum!"

Answer: Withnail And I

Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann play two down on their luck actors who flee '60's London for a disastrous holiday in the country. Grant, whose outburst this is, plays the permanently boozed-up Withnail. In reality, the Swaziland born actor is allergic to alcohol.

Answer: Moonstruck

Cher is about to marry Danny Aiello when she meets his manic brother, a one-handed Nicolas Cage...that's amore! This 1987 Norman Jewison movie (originally titled 'The Bride And The Wolf') was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, but lost out to Bernardo Bertolucci's 'The Last Emperor'.
9. "Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms."

Answer: The Outlaw Josey Wales

Clint Eastwood plays the title role and also directs this 1976 Western about a man avenging his family's murder during the Civil War. Here, Josey explains why he's not for burying his latest victims. Phillip Kaufman had started shooting the movie when Eastwood replaced him as director. Well, Clint is very good at firing...

Answer: This Is Spinal Tap

Rob Reiner's hilarious tale of English Heavy Metal legends 'Spinal Tap' on tour in America. Reiner's portrayal of film-maker Marty Di Bergi was allegedly based on Martin, who directed and appeared in 'The Last Waltz', a documentary about the farewell performance of 'The Band'.
