Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the movie we find a bunch of criminals in clown masks, led by the Joker, robbing a bank. Who owns the bank?

Answer: the mob

The first indication we get that this is not a regular bank comes from the clown monitoring the silent alarm. Just before he is killed, by an accomplice, he comments that the call he interrupts has not been made to the police. Later the bank manager, before being shot, confronts the clowns and asks them if they know who they are robbing.

Afterwards we learn, through various conversations, that the bank is indeed owned by the mob, so reprisals are expected to be harsh.
2. Chinese businessman, Lau, runs the banks in Gotham where mob money is being laundered. The police have tracked some marked money to these banks, but Lau escapes to Hong Kong with the cash, before the police can act. How is Lau brought into custody?

Answer: Batman delivers him to police headquarters.

Suspicious about Lau, Batman has been keeping an eye on him through a proposed partnership with Wayne Enterprises. When Lau flees, Bruce sends Lucius Fox to Hong Kong to tell Lau that the deal is off. Later that night Batman apprehends Lau and flies him back to Gotham City, where he is left, trussed up, outside of the police station. Lau's fate is not a pretty one, as the Joker burns him alive, on top of a large pile of money.
Lau is played by Chin Han and Lucius Fox is played by Morgan Freeman. Batman is played by Christian Bale.
3. When the Joker demands that Batman reveal his true identity, Harvey Dent steps up and claims to be Batman. The convoy transporting him to County Jail is attacked by the Joker. What diversion does the Joker use to drive the convoy down to the lower streets, away from air support?

Answer: a burning fire truck

The street that the convoy is taking is completely blocked by a burning truck. As they pass it, on their way to the ramp to the lower street, you can see that it is a fire truck. Once on the lower road, the convoy is subject to all sorts of attacks by the Joker and his henchman, and one of the officers comments that they need to get back up where they can have air support.
4. How do the Joker's men take down the helicopter?

Answer: steel cables strung between buildings

After taking quite a few hits, the convoy manages to make it back up onto the upper street where the helicopter can provide air cover. However we see two of the Joker's henchmen fire cables across the upper levels of the buildings. The helicopter flies right into these, becomes entangled and crashes.
5. Which major, recurring character dies in the movie?

Answer: Rachel Dawes

The Joker has captured both Rachel Dawes and Harvey Dent. In different locations, each is surrounded by barrels of gasoline which are wired to blow up. The Joker tells Batman where each is, only giving him time to rescue one. Rachel and Harvey are talking to each other on the phone, each believing that Batman will rescue Rachel and Harvey will die.
This is what Batman tries to do, but the Joker has lied about who is where, and Batman finds that it is Harvey whom he rescues, after Harvey is burnt by burning gasoline. The police arrive too late to save Rachel, and it is her loss that drives Harvey crazy and makes him become Two Face.
Gordon appears to be assassinated, but it is just a ploy to keep his family safe while he works with Batman to get the Joker.
Rachel is played by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dent is played by Aaron Eckhart.
6. Rachel is on her way to break up with Dent when she is captured by the Joker.

Answer: False

At the end of "Batman Begins", Rachel told Bruce that the city needed Batman more than she needed him. She told him that she would be waiting for him when he was ready to stop being Batman. When Bruce tells her that he is ready to abandon being Batman, because Dent is the hero the city needs, she kisses him. The next morning she leaves a note with Alfred, telling him to give it to Bruce when the time is right. When Alfred asks how he will know that, she tells him that the letter is not sealed.
After she dies, Alfred reads the note, in which she tells Bruce that she loves Harvey and wants to be with him. Alfred changes his mind about giving Bruce the note, taking it off his breakfast tray. We later see Alfred burning the note.
Alfred is played by Michael Caine.
7. Who says, "You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante who beats criminals to a pulp with his bare hands, and your plan is to blackmail this person? Good luck?"

Answer: Lucius Fox

Coleman Reese is some kind of consultant who has done some digging into the R and D Department of Wayne Enterprises and come to the correct conclusion that Bruce is Batman. He confronts Lucius with his suspicions and demands ten million dollars a year for the rest of his life. Lucius responds with the above quote, which apparently makes Reese change his mind. He later goes on TV and is prepared to reveal the identity of Batman because the Joker is killing people every day until the Bat reveals himself.
Coleman Reese is played by Joshua Harto.
8. Coleman Reese goes on TV and offers to reveal the identity of Batman, to stop the Joker's killing spree. The Joker decides that he doesn't want to find out Batman's identity after all. What does he threaten to blow up, if Reese is not killed?

Answer: a hospital

Police immediately begin evacuating the hospitals, including the one in which Harvey Dent is recovering from his severe burns. Dressed in a nurse's uniform, the Joker goes in and corrupts an already enraged Dent, taking great satisfaction in corrupting the city's shining knight. Gotham General Hospital is indeed blown up, although virtually all of the patients have been successfully evacuated. No one is sure about the whereabouts of Dent though.

The last we see of Reese is when Bruce Wayne crashes his car in an attempt to save Reese, being transferred by police, from being captured by the Joker's thugs.
9. Crazed with rage, and calling himself Two Face, Dent lets the flip of his coin decide whether he kills someone or not. When he confronts mob boss Salvatore Maroni, the toss is heads and Dent doesn't shoot him. Who does he shoot instead?

Answer: Maroni's driver

Before his transformation to Two Face, Dent pretends to decide things by the flip of a coin, but the coin is double-headed. After he is badly scarred by the fire, he continues to flip the coin, but since one side of the coin has been damaged by the same fire, it truly becomes a question of chance.

While in the car with Maroni, he flips the coin and it comes up heads, so he doesn't shoot Maroni. He flips it again and the damaged side appears, so he fastens his seatbelt and shoots the driver through the seat, causing the car to crash. Presumably Maroni dies in the crash. Salvatore Maroni is played by Eric Roberts.
10. How does Harvey Dent appear to die?

Answer: Batman knocks him off of the building.

Dent captures Commissioner Gordon's wife and children, and takes them to the place where Rachel died. He wants Gordon to feel the way he felt when he talked to her on the phone, knowing that one of them was going to die. Batman arrives and Dent flips the coin and shoots him. He then holds the gun to his own head and flips the coin, but it comes up heads, so he doesn't shoot himself. He is about to kill Gordon's son when Batman gets up and tackles him, sending him flying over the edge of the building. Batman rescues the boy and then falls himself.
Batman decides that Dent's reputation must not be tarnished, for the good of the city. He makes Gordon blame the murders on him and leaves as a fugitive. There is some speculation that Dent really isn't dead, but he is certainly seems to be dead at the end of the film.
Commissioner Gordon is played by Gary Oldman.
