Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the narrator's nickname?

Answer: Smalls

The narrator's name was Smalls. He was funny in the beginning especially with his big hat, which he wore at the end of the movie too. By the way, his full name in the movie was Scotty Smalls.
2. What was the nickname of the kid who had big black glasses?

Answer: Squints

He was so funny, always cleaning his glasses.
3. What was the name of the big dog that lived next to the sandlot?

Answer: Hercules

In case you put The Beast, I said name, hint hint. It was pretty simple though. I thought he was so cute! You know, except for the whole slobber and drooling thing. But he was adorable, don't you think?
4. Who had to explain to Smalls what a s'more was?

Answer: Ham

It was really funny. Smalls walks in. Ham: "Hey, you want a s'more?" Smalls: "Some more of what?" Ham: "No, no you want a s'more?" Smalls: "I haven't had anything so how can I have some more of nothing?" Ham: "You're killing me Smalls!"
5. When did this movie take place?

Answer: summer, 1962

Yeah it was summer of 1962. Obviously it was summer since all they said in the movie was that it was the best summer and they celebrated the 4th of July and all that summer stuff.
6. Who was the Great Bambino?

Answer: Babe Ruth

Yeah it was Babe Ruth. Benny Rodriguez was Benny, and Ham was the red-head. He grew up to be the Great Hambino, the wrestler. Smalls' step-father had a baseball autographed by "The Babe" but since Smalls didn't know who he even was, it got him into a lot of trouble. That comes later though.
7. In the beginning of the movie, two baseball teams were written on a scorecard. What were the names of the teams?

Answer: Giants and Dodgers

The baseball game was Giants vs. Dodgers. Smalls, now a newscaster, was keeping score and talking about the game, while Benny was playing on the Dodgers. He became known as Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez.
8. What house number did Smalls live at?

Answer: 1556

9. When Benny introduces Smalls to the other guys on the baseball team, what billboard was behind them?

Answer: Coca-Cola

10. When Smalls met the other guys, they all spit. Who spit twice?

Answer: Squints

11. Which player was always repeating what his brother said?

Answer: Tommy

Tommy (the repeat) was always repeating what Timmy said. I guess it was a brother thing.
12. What line follows the quote?: "Oh, oh! The Great Bambino! Oh, I thought you said the Great "Bambi"?"

Answer: That wimpy deer!

I love this part. Smalls was the one who asked who the Great Bambino was and they (his friends) all started giving a whole bunch of nicknames getting Smalls even more confused. Then he just lied and pretended to know who he was. Ham was the one who said, "That wimpy deer!"
13. When first going to the sandlot all together, what did Squints say Smalls was?

Answer: L7 weenie

Squints called him a L7 weenie, and Yeah-yeah agreed. I felt so bad, they weren't even giving him a chance. I think he called him that because in baseball terms, number 7 is left field which is where Benny sent Smalls. Squints just added the L and the weenie part in himself. Also if you make an L and a 7 with your fingers and put them together, you get a square which is what they had called Smalls anyway.
14. What position did Benny put Smalls at in the beginning of the movie?

Answer: left-center

Benny told Smalls to go to left-center. Smalls got lost on the way there, and Benny had to tell him to move. Then Squints called Smalls a square.
15. Who said this, "'About time Benny. My clothes are going out of style!"

Answer: Squints

Benny had just helped Smalls learn how to throw and told Smalls to just stick out his glove and he would catch the ball, and that he(Benny) would do the rest. Benny: "Man, this is baseball. You gotta stop thinking. Just have fun."
16. On Smalls' list of things to remember for baseball, what was number 1?

Answer: The Great Bambino

Bad Smalls, lying about knowing who the Great Bambino was. That's what basically got him into trouble.
17. What did Smalls have to do before going to the campout?

Answer: wash the dishes

Smalls got to the campout late and said, "Sorry I'm late. My mom made me put on my jacket and then she made me do the dishes." They all laughed.
18. According to the story that Squints told about The Beast, where did he used to live?

Answer: Mertle's Acres

The Beast was raised in Mertle's Acres until he supposedly ate a person. Then he and his owner moved to the house that was right next door to the sandlot.
19. When Squints almost drowned in the pool, what did Bertram say he looked like?

Answer: a dead fish

It was funny. Squints looked dead and Bertram just looked at him and said, "He looks like a dead fish." Squints did it so that he could kiss the lifeguard Wendy whom he liked. He ended up getting kicked out of the pool forever but in the end he married Wendy.
20. What position did Kenny play?

Answer: Pitcher

He was the pitcher for every game. He was cool, I liked him. Plus he was funny. In the beginning he didn't think Smalls should be on their team either. Once he saw that Smalls could play he said that he knew it all the time.
21. What night of the year do they get to have their one and only night game?

Answer: 4th of July

The 4th of July is when there are a lot of fireworks and it provided them with enough light to play at night.
22. What's the name of the team that challenged the kids?

Answer: Tigers

It was the Tigers, not the Lions or Bears (oh my). And I just took the Beasts from the name that they gave the dog that lived next door. By the way, the Tigers were kids from a different neighborhood that was an actual organized team with nice uniforms and everything. Basically, the two teams hated each other.
23. When the opposing baseball team came to the sandlot, they all started insulting each other. What was the biggest insult?

Answer: You play ball like a girl.

When Ham told Phillips (the kid from the Tigers) that he plays ball like a girl, everyone gasped, got quiet, and then they all started to laugh.
24. After the group tried to get the baseball back using the vacuums, who blamed himself when it didn't work?

Answer: Timmy

They had just tried getting the ball back using some vacuums when the vacuums exploded. Timmy was still in the clubhouse when they exploded and he got full of dust. When he came down and shook off the dust he said, "We've been going about this all wrong. I blame myself." Then he said that they need to surprise The Beast which is where Yeah-yeah comes in.

They used him as an aerial attack. They didn't succeed.
25. Who was the last kid to move away?

Answer: Smalls

"Smalls was the last one to move away. Benny went on to play for the Dodgers. Smalls became a sports newscaster for baseball. Yeah-yeah went to military school and was a pioneer of bungee-jumping. Ham became a wrestler (The Great Hambino). Squints married Wendy and they had 9 kids. Tommy and Timmy created mini-malls and the became multi-millionaires. Kenny went on to play Triple-A Baseball. Bertram got really into the 60's and no one heard from him again.

Hercules (The Beast) lived to be 199 years old, in dog years".

A quote just to end it all, from The Great Bambino (The Sultan of Swat, The King of Crash, The Colossus of Clout!): "Hero's get remembered, but legends never die. Follow your heart kid, and you'll never go wrong."
