Answer: French

Chopin's father, Nicolas, eventually adopted Poland as his homeland when he moved there in 1787.
3. What event made Chopin decide not to return to Poland in 1830?

Answer: November Revolution

Chopin would eventually end up in Paris, where he would die on 17 October 1849.
4. How many nocturnes did Chopin compose?

Answer: 21

Most recordings only feature 19 nocturnes, as the remaining two were not considered to be "genteel" enough by 19th century standards.

Chopin's E-minor nocturne, Op. 72, #1 was written to commemorate the death of Chopin's sister and is one of Chopin's first works.

Chopin's mazurkas are considered to be the cornerstone of Polish Nationalistic classical music.

Originally Chopin was not interested in Sand. In a letter to his family in Poland he said about her, "Something about her repels me." Maybe he should have listened to his instincts? :-)

Chopin hated to perform in public and only did so a handful of times; his last public concert was at Paris in 1848.
