Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. If you took the titles of two of this author's works and made them into one, it might be "The Importance of Being Dorian Gray". What is his name?

Answer: Oscar Wilde

The only novel Wilde published was "The Picture of Dorian Gray" in 1890. A tale of self indulgence, it revolves around a painting that ages, rather than its owner. Wilde's last play was in 1895. "The Importance of Being Ernest", is a comedy that uses satire of the Victorian views of the time. (He can be seen in the second row, right behind John Lennon.)
2. In the late 1980s I was a member of The Traveling Wilburys. I started The Never Ending Tour in June of 1988. By the end of 2010 I had performed in more than 2,300 shows during the tour. Who am I?

Answer: Bob Dylan

During the 20 plus years of the tour, Dylan has averaged more than 100 performances a year. (Dylan can be seen in the back row, last on the right.)
3. I was a missionary and explorer in Africa. Stanley greeted me with what is now a famous question. Who am I?

Answer: David Livingstone

The question was "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?". To which he responded, "Yes, and I feel thankful that I am here to welcome you". (He can be seen in the third row, just in front of Marilyn Monroe.)
4. I really need a cocktail. Who am I?

Answer: Shirley Temple

Often served to children who are dining with adults, the Shirley Temple is a non-alcoholic drink. It consists of lemon-lime soda, grenadine syrup, and is garnished with a maraschino cherry. (She can be seen in the front row, second from the right.)
5. I wrote "The Island of Dr. Moreau". Who am I?

Answer: H.G.Wells

Wells also wrote "The Time Machine" and "The Invisible Man". (He can be seen in the third row, fourth from the right.)
6. There are several comedians on the cover of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Which of the following is NOT on the cover?

Answer: Lucille Ball

Bruce can be seen in the back row, to the right of Mae West. Hardy is in the third row with the yellow hat. Laurel is two places to the left of Hardy.
7. I donned a dress to star with Marilyn Monroe. In Boston, I also played the part of Albert DeSalvo. Who am I?

Answer: Tony Curtis

In 1959 Tony Curtis starred with Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon in "Some Like it Hot". In 1968 he played the part of Albert DeSalvo in "The Boston Strangler". (Curtis can be seen in the middle of the third row, in front of W.C.Fields.)
8. I was a German philosopher of history and a socialist. I had several books published, including co-authored "The Communist Manifesto". Who am I?

Answer: Karl Marx

Marx's ideology has had a far reaching influence especially in the areas of economics and politics in the 20th century. (He can be seen in the third row, between Oliver Hardy and H. G. Wells.)
9. Who had a top ten hit in 1968 with "Abraham, Martin and John"?

Answer: Dion

The song is a musical tribute to honor the memories of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr., John and Robert Kennedy. Dion escaped death when he declined to travel on the plane that crashed and killed Buddy Holley and Richie Valens. (He can be seen in the third row, to the left of Tony Curtis.)
10. I was the fifth Beatle and the first to leave the group. Who am I?

Answer: Stuart Sutcliffe

Sutcliffe was the group's bassist and an artist. He left the group in July of 1961 to pursue a career in painting. Tragically, he died at the age of 21 of an aneurysm of the brain. (He can be seen on the far left, behind the girl with the blue hat.)
