Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What Old Testament book makes the statement that a child raised the right way will never depart from it?

Answer: Proverbs

The advice about raising a child is found in Proverbs 22:6. The verse in the NKJV states, "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." A considerable portion of Proverbs, including Chapter 22, was written by King Solomon.

2. According to 2 Kings 10:1, what wicked king of Israel had seventy sons?

Answer: Ahab

Ahab is the correct answer as per 2 Kings 10:1. The assumption by many is that Ahab had one wife -- the wicked Jezebel. However, it's abundantly apparent the king of Israel had a large number of other wives and concubines considering he fathered seventy sons. It is highly likely he had many more children as no figures are given for the number of daughters he fathered.

Ahab and Jezebel are best known for their vehement opposition to Elijah and other prophets of God.

3. According to 1 Chronicles 25:5, what court prophet of David had fourteen sons and three daughters?

Answer: Heman

Heman is the correct answer. According to Scripture, Heman was the grandson of Samuel and was in charge of music during the reign of King David. 1 Chronicles 25:4 states Heman's sons were Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth. No names are given in Scripture for his three daughters.

4. How old was Jesus when He was found by His parents talking in the temple? (Luke 2:42)

Answer: 12

Jesus was twelve years old when He was found by His parents talking in the temple in Jerusalem. According to Luke 2:41-50, the people who heard the Child speak were amazed at His understanding and answers.

The information in the passage in Luke is one of the few glimpses given in the New Testament of Jesus before He became a Man.

(The question was left over from a quiz about children in the Old and New Testaments.)
5. Out of the four Gospels, which one does not mention the little children coming unto Jesus?

Answer: John

There is no mention in the Gospel of John about children coming unto Jesus.

Details about Jesus blessing the children can be found in Matthew 19:13-15, Mark 10:13-16 and Luke 18:15-17. While the first three Gospels offer an overview of the three years of Christ's ministry, John largely concentrates on the final few days. As a result, in many instances John does not contain the same information as the three other Gospels.

6. According to 1 Kings 10:18-20, what king of Israel had a throne with statues of lions beside it?

Answer: Solomon

Solomon, king of Israel, had a throne with statues of lions beside it, as per 1 Kings 10:18-20. Solomon's life is often associated with opulence and when one learns about details of his throne, they can see why.

Verses 18-20 in the NKJV gives this description of Somon's throne: "Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold. The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round at the back; there were armrests on either side of the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests. Twelve lions stood there, one on each side of the six steps; nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom."

(The question was left over from a quiz about lions in the Old and New Testaments.)
7. According to Ecclesiastes 9:4, what is it better to be than being a dead lion?

Answer: A live dog

Ecclesiastes 9:4 states it is better to be a live dog than a dead lion. The verse in the NIV sums up things this way: "Anyone who is among the living has hope -- even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!"

Tradition holds the Old Testament book was written by King Solomon while he was elderly. However, some modern day theologians dispute this belief. For the record, I am on the side of tradition.

8. What Old Testament book proclaims that anyone who scorns his parents will have their eyes pecked out by birds?

Answer: Proverbs

Proverbs is the correct answer with the verse found in Proverbs 30:17. The verse in the NKJV states: "The eye that mocks his father and scorns obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out and the young eagles will eat it."

Chapter 30 of Proverbs was written by Agur the son of Jakeh. However, Solomon is the author of the vast majority of the passages in Proverbs.

(The question was left over from a quiz about birds in the Bible.)
9. According to Genesis 24:64 what animal was Rebekah riding on when she first laid her eyes on Isaac?

Answer: Camel

Rebekah was riding on a camel when she first saw her future husband Isaac, as per Genesis 24:64. Isaac and Rebekah would become parents of the first set of documented twins in the Bible -- Jacob and Esau.

(The question was left over from quiz about camels in the Bible.)
10. According to 2 Chronicles 23:15, what evil queen was killed at Jerusalem's Horse Gate?

Answer: Athalia

Athaliah was killed at Jerusalem's Horse Gate, as per 2 Chronicles 23:15. According to 2 Kings 8:16, Athaliah was the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel who became queen after her son Ahaziah died. She was totally depraved and had an insatiable lust for power. In fact, to become queen of Judah, she killed all of her grandchildren, with the exception of Joash, the youngest, as per 2 Kings 11:1-2. (Joash was not killed because he was placed in hiding, according to Scripture.)

About six years after Athaliah ascended to the throne, she was killed in an insurrection.

Under the instructions of Jehoiada, soldiers were told not to kill her in the house of the LORD. Scripture goes on to state, "So they seized her; and she went by way of the entrance of the Horse Gate into the king's house, and they killed her there."
