Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The man who replaced Judas Iscariot and became one of the Twelve Disciples

Answer: Who is Mathias?

Matthias was selected to replace Judas Iscariot as per Acts 1:15-26. According to the passage, he was selected over Joseph who was called Barsabas and surnamed Justus. After his selection, there is no further mention of Matthias in the New Testament. After betraying Jesus for thirty pieces of silver, Judas Iscariot was filled with remorse and committed suicide, according to Scripture.
2. The container Paul was put in when he escaped from Damascus

Answer: What is a basket?

Shortly after Paul encountered Christ on the road to Damascus and became a believer, a plot was hatched by non-Christians to kill him. Acts 9:23-25 tells of Paul, who was known as Saul at the time, becoming aware of the plot to kill him. The passage in the NKJV states his adversaries watched the gates to Damascus twenty-four hours a day to kill him.

However, Paul was able to leave the city unharmed when "the disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall in a large basket." In other words, he was able to safely leave the city unnoticed.
3. The man who converted the Ethiopian eunuch to Christianity

Answer: Who is Philip?

The account of Philip converting the Ethiopian eunuch to Christianity can be found in Acts 8:26-40. According to the passage, an unnamed man from Ethiopia was riding in a chariot reading writings of the prophet Isaiah when Philip ran up to him and asked him if he understood what he was reading. When the man confessed he had questions to ask about what he was reading, Philip seized the opportunity to preach the Gospel message. A short while later, the Ethiopian eunuch would become a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ and be baptized.

It must be pointed out the Philip in this incident is not to be confused with Philip, one of the original Twelve Disciples.
4. The worker in the early church who "had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch," as per the NKJV

Answer: Who is Manaen?

Manaen, a worker in the early church, had been "brought up with Herod the tetrarch", according to Acts 13:1 in the NKJV. (The American Standard Version Bible describes Manaen as a "foster brother" of Herod.)

The verse states Manaen served alongside the likes of Paul and Barnabas in Antioch. However, little is known about Manaen as he is mentioned in only Acts 13:1 and nowhere else in Scripture.
5. The land from which a man came about whom Paul received a vision of him asking for help in spreading the Gospel

Answer: What is Macedonia?

Acts 16:6-10 tells of Paul having a vision in the middle of the night about a man from Macedonia pleading with him to visit his country to help spread the Gospel message. Verse 10 in the NKJV states that after Paul had his vision, he and his associates "immediately" sought to go to Macedonia, concluding the Lord had called them to preach the Gospel there. No further details are given in Scripture about the vision.
6. The woman and her household who were baptized by Paul at Philippi

Answer: Who is Lydia?

Lydia and her household were baptized by Paul, as per Acts 16:11-15. According to the passage, Lydia was the seller of purple cloth in Philippi and she became a believer in the resurrected Jesus Christ after she heard a Gospel presentation by Paul. No mention is made in the passage as to the number of people who were in Lydia's household.
7. The man who addressed a mob in Jerusalem

Answer: Who is Paul?

Acts 21:37-40 tells of Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, addressing a mob in Jerusalem. Paul's address to the mob came after he was seized in the temple and taken outside to be killed. The mob was savagely beating Paul when the commander of the local garrison arrived on the scene with a complement of soldiers. Things eventually died down and Paul was finally given an opportunity to address the people. Paul's address can be found in Acts 22.
8. The age of Jairus' daughter who was raised from the dead by Jesus

Answer: What is 12?

Jairus' daughter was twelve years old when she was raised from the dead by Jesus. Although no name is given for Jairus' daughter, Scripture tells of Jesus raising the girl from the dead. Jairus was the ruler of the synagogue.

For details about Jesus raising the girl from the dead, see Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5:21-43 and Luke 8:40-56.
9. The book in the KJV Bible that contains the most chapters written by Luke

Answer: What is Acts?

The correct answer is Acts. Luke is credited with writing two books in the New Testament -- the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. Acts is the larger of the two books, consisting of twenty eight chapters in Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV. The Gospel of Luke consists of twenty-four chapters. Both books are addressed to Theophilus.

Incidentally, Romans and Philemon were both written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles.
10. The book in the KJV Bible that in order of appearance is seventh in the New Terstament

Answer: What is 1 Corinthians?

In order of appearance, 1 Corinthians is the seventh book in the New Testament. Appearing before 1 Corinthians in Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV are Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts and Romans. 1 Corinthians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to members of the early church in Corinth.
