Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The body of water on which Jesus calmed storms on two different occasions

Answer: What is the Sea of Galilee?

The Sea of Galilee is the correct answer. It was on this body of water Jesus calmed storms on two different occasions. Details of the first miracle can be found in Matthew 8, Mark 4 and Luke 8 while details of the second miracle can be found in Matthew 14 and Mark 6.

According to Scripture, Christ was sleeping in the back of a boat rowed by the disciples on the Sea of Galilee when He calmed the storm in the first incident. The second time around, the Twelve Disciples encountered Christ walking on the water during a storm. In both cases He rebuked the waves and all was calm.
2. The river where John the Baptist baptized scores of people

Answer: What is the Jordan River?

John the Baptist baptized scores of people in the Jordan River. He preached a message of repentance and told the people he was not worthy of carrying the sandals of the One who would be coming after him.

In John 1:29 in the NKJV, John describes Jesus as "the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."
3. While being stoned, his final words in the NKJV were, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin"

Answer: Who is Stephen?

Stephen, the first Christian martyr, is the correct answer. His trial and execution by stoning is documented in Acts 6:8-15 and 7:1-60. Verses 59-60 in the NKJV Bible state while they were stoning Stephen, he called on God saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then after kneeling down, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." According to Acts 8:1, Saul, who would later become known as Paul, consented to Stephen's death.

The statement by Stephen "do not charge them with this sin" is similar to what Jesus said when He was being crucified. Luke 23:34 quotes Jesus as saying "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."
4. The number of times the word 'love' appears in 1 Corinthians 13 (the Love Chapter) in the NKJV

Answer: What is 9?

Using the NKJV the word 'love' appears nine times in 1 Corinthians 13, known as the Love Chapter. (The word 'love' can be also found nine times in the NIV. The KJV, however, does not use the word 'love' in 1 Corinthians 13. Rather, it uses the word 'charity'.)

For the record, 1 Corinthians 13 contains a total of two hundred and seventy-two words, using the NKJV.

1 Corinthians was written by Paul, the apostle to the Gentiles, and addressed to members of the early church at Corinth.
5. Where the demons went after Jesus commanded them to leave a demon possessed man in Gadarenes

Answer: What is a herd of pigs?

The demons went into a herd of pigs, as per Mark 5:1-20. According to the passage, Jesus encountered a demon-possessed man in Gadarenes, known as Gerasenes in the NIV. The demons had such control over the man that no one could bind him with chains and shackles, as he would continually break free.

Verse 13 states there were about 2,000 pigs in a nearby herd and when the demons entered the animals, they went wild. In fact, the verse states the pigs "ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea."

I find it interesting there is no mention in Scripture about who owned the swine. However, one thing is certain: the owner of the swine was not Jewish. With Jews forbidden to have anything to do with pork, it's a foregone conclusion the owner was a Gentile.
6. Where Paul sent Timothy and Erastus to continue church work, as per Acts 19:22

Answer: What is Macedonia?

Acts 19:22 tells of Paul sending Timothy and Erastus to continue church work in Macedonia. Paul made the decision to send Timothy and Erastus to Macedonia while they were in Epehsus. According to Acts 19:13-20, a large number of people who had practiced sorcery in Ephesus gathered their scrolls and burned them publicly, as per Acts 19:13-20. Verse 20 in the NKJV states the value of the scrolls burned was 50,000 pieces of silver.
7. The three disciples Jesus took with Him to Jairus' house

Answer: Who are Peter, James and John?

When Jesus went to Jairus' house he took three disciples with him. They were Peter, James and John, as per Mark 5:37. The three disciples are regarded as part of Christ's Inner Circle, as they were also with Jesus during the transfiguration on the mountain.

Scripture tells of Jairus' twelve-year-old daughter being dead, and when Jesus arrived at her house, there were people outside weeping and wailing loudly. A few moments later, everyone would be rejoicing as Christ miraculously restored life to the girl.

For details, see Mark 5:21-43.
8. The community where Jesus wept

Answer: What is Bethany?

John 11:35 states Jesus wept at Bethany. The occasion was at the tomb of Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha. According to Scripture, Lazarus had died four days previously and the people were filled with grief. Their grief, however, would turn to amazement and ecstasy when Jesus miraculously brought Lazarus back to life.

The New Testament tells of Jesus performing numerous miracles, but raising Lazarus from the dead is regarded as one of His greatest feats.
9. Using the KJV, the Gospel with the most chapters

Answer: What is Matthew?

Using versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV, Matthew has more chapters than the three other Gospels. For the record, Matthew has twenty-eight chapters, Luke has twenty-four chapters, John twenty-one and Mark sixteen.

The four Gospels are found at the beginning of the New Testament. Each book is named after the man who wrote it.
10. The number of New Testament books written in total by Peter and Luke

Answer: What is 4?

Peter and Luke are credited with writing a total of four books in the New Testament. Peter wrote 1 Peter and 2 Peter while Luke was the author of the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts.

Peter was a member of the original Twelve Disciples while Luke was a doctor and a worker in the early church.
