Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Then the LORD said to Noah, 'Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation.'"

Answer: Genesis 7:1

The verse is from Genesis 7:1 and tells of God communicating with Noah before the world was engulfed in a massive flood. Scripture goes on to tell of Noah and his family taking refuge in a gigantic ark they had built, and surviving the flood. Scripture also tells of all types of wildlife surviving the flood by taking refuge in the ark.

For further details, see Genesis 6:13-22 and all of Genesis 7 and 8.
2. "So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath subsided."

Answer: Esther 7:10

Esther 7:10 is part of an account of the execution of Haman, the man who had been scheming to have all the Jews killed in the Persian empire. Ironically, Haman was executed on the very gallows he had constructed to hang Mordecai, his arch rival and the cousin of Queen Esther.

Esther 9:7-10 also tells of Haman's ten sons being executed.
3. "Then Deborah and Barak... sang on that day, saying: 'When leaders lead in Israel, when the people willingly offer themselves, bless the LORD!'"

Answer: Judges 5:1-2

The verses in question are from Judges 5:1-2 and are part of a passage telling of Deborah and Barak singing a gala victory song after the Israelites routed the Canaanite army led by Sisera. Deborah was judge of Israel and Barak was commander of the military.

For details about the victory song, see Judges 5:1-31.

Here's how Judges 5:1-2 read in their entirety in the NKJV: "Then Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam sang on that day, saying: 'When leaders lead in Israel, when the people willingly offer themselves, bless the LORD!'"

4. "Now when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul."

Answer: 1 Samuel 18:1

David and Jonathan were the best of friends and 1 Samuel 18:1 attests to this fact. This even though Jonathan's father Saul was a vehement enemy of David. In fact, Saul, king of Israel, despised David so much he spent much of the latter days of his life attempting to kill the national hero who had slayed Goliath with a slingshot. Try as he may, Saul was unsuccessful.

Scripture goes on to tell of Saul committing suicide after being seriously injured in battle, and David becoming king.
5. "He shall be like a tree planted by... water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."

Answer: Psalm 1:3

The verse is from Psalm 1:3. The first Psalm is basically about the way of the righteous and the end of the ungodly. However, no one knows for certain who wrote Psalm 1.

For the record, here's how Psalm 1:3 reads in its entirety in the NKJV: "He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper."
