Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

Answer: Genesis 1:1

Genesis 1:1 is the first verse in both the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. The chapter proceeds to tell of God creating the world. Tradition holds Genesis was written by Moses, the man who led the Israelites out of Egypt on a forty-year-long journey to Canaan, known as the Promised Land.
2. "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."

Answer: Proverbs 3:5

The correct answer is Proverbs 3:5. The verse is usually featured with Verse 6. The two verses read this way: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths."

Chapter 3 of Proverbs is generally devoted to providing guidance for the young. The vast majority of the content in Proverbs was written by Solomon. However. Lemuel and Agur are also credited with being contributors.
3. "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."

Answer: Psalm 23:1

The words in the question represent the first verse of Psalm 23, arguably the best known Psalm. Psalm 23, written by David, is known as 'The LORD is My Shepherd', the first four words.

Using Bible versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV, Psalm 23 consists of only six verses.
4. "But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

Answer: Joshua 24:15

The statement, "but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD", was made by Joshua, the man who led the Israelites into Canaan, known as the Promised Land. The quote by Joshua appears in Joshua 24:15. He made the statement when the Israelites gathered at Shechem and agreed to a new covenant. For details about the covenant, see Joshua 24:1-28.

Following the covenant, Scripture goes on to tell of the deaths of Joshua and Eleazar, the high priest.
5. "Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

Answer: Esther 4:14

The quote featured in the question is attributed to Mordecai and can be found in Esther 4:14. The quote is part of an appeal Mordecai made to Esther, queen of Persia, to help save the Jews from being killed in a diabolical plan hatched by Haman.

Scripture goes on to tell of Mordecai and Esther being a highly successful duo with all the Jews being saved in the Persian empire.
6. "For wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God, my God."

Answer: Ruth 1:16

The quote in the question was made by Ruth and appears in Ruth 1:16. Ruth made the statement to her mother-in-law Naomi after both women were left as widows. Naomi was originally from Bethlehem and Ruth was a Gentile from the land of Moab.

Scripture goes on to tell of Ruth marrying Boaz, a wealthy Jewish landowner, and giving birth to Obed. Obed would become the father of Jesse who was the father of David.
7. "Do not fear, nor be afraid; have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses."

Answer: Isaiah 44:8

The statement of comfort by God appears in Isaiah 44:8. The verse is part of a passage explaining there is no other God. The chapter goes on to state idolatry is foolishness and Israel will not be forgotten. Isaiah is one of four major prophets in the Protestant Bible. The three other major prophets are Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel.
8. "And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Answer: Isaiah 9:6

The verse is from Isaiah 9:6 and Christians believe the words are prophecy pertaining to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, all of Isaiah 9:1-7 is viewed by many Christians as Messianic prophecy. The sub-head for the passage in the NKJV reads 'The Government of the Promised Son'.

Isaiah, was the son of Amoz, as per Isaiah 1:1.
9. "O Lord, there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears."

Answer: 1 Chronicles 17:20

1 Chronicles 17:20 is the correct answer. The verse is part of a passage in which David praises God after receiving divine instructions to construct a dwelling place for Him in Jerusalem. For further details, see 1 Chronicles 17:1-27.

David was a young shepherd boy who slew Goliath, a Philistine giant in battle, and ascended to become king of Israel.
10. "The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day nor the moon by night."

Answer: Psalm 121:5-6

The two verses featured in the question are found in Psalm 121:5-6. In a nutshell, Psalm 121 states God is the Helper for all those who seek Him. Using versions such as the KJV, NKJV and NIV, the Psalm consists of eight verses. Psalm 121 is one of my favorites, although no one knows for certain who wrote it.
