Question 1 of 10
1. Once there was a king who ate his last meal at the home of a woman who had a "familiar spirit". She might also be known as a sooth-sayer, what we today refer to as a "medium". During the king's visit, she prepared a quick meal for him, consisting of beef and "unleavened" bread without yeast.

Prior to his last meal, he had asked the medium to conduct a type of seance, and she had complied, dredging up the spirit of a dead man. The king was terribly upset by what he heard the man say, as the dead man had told him that he and his sons would die the next day.

Who was this king who is spoken of in the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 28? (King James Version)
Hint

Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, was only twelve years old when he became the king of Judah. Yet for fifty-five years, he did many evil things during his reign.
According to 2 Chronicles 33:1-9, besides using witchcraft, enchantments, wizards and dealing with a familiar spirit, what other great act of defiance did he exhibit in regards to God's holy temple? (King James Version)
Hint

Question 4 of 10

Do evil spirits know the names of any Christians? What is the Biblical evidence?

The record bearers in heaven are listed as the the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost.
What does John say are the three things that bear witness in earth in agreement with each other?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Saul

Saul was seeking an answer to a question that God refused to answer due to the fact that He had dealt with Saul enough as the king of Israel, because Saul had become ungodly. God's spirit had been passed on to David, who had already been anointed to be king by the prophet Samuel before Samuel's death.

When Saul attempted to contact Samuel in the realm of the dead, Samuel informed him that he and his sons would join him in the land of the dead the next day.
2. There is an instance of a man killing all but one of his seventy brothers. This horrific story is found in Judges, chapter 9. He was the son of Gideon, and his name was Abimelech. In the 23rd verse of this chapter, in the King James Version, what does it say that God sent between him and his mother's people in the land of Shechem?

Answer: an evil spirit

This spirit may be interpreted as a spirit of discontent or of disaffection. Regardless of its nature, it was apparently sent by God to create a state of mistrust between those who had helped him financially in destroying all of his brothers, with the notable exception of Jotham (verses 7-21).

The people of Shechem had actually given him seventy pieces of silver, one for each of his brothers, and had made Abimelech a king over themselves.
3. A king's encounter with the witch of Endor and her familiar spirit is not the only instance of a familiar spirit being spoken of in the scriptures.

Answer: he placed in it an idol god that he himself had made

In 2 Chronicles 33:6 and 7, some of what may be considered the most horrible abominations (sins) are committed right in God's own city (Jerusalem) and God's own house (the temple).
Manasseh, later in this chapter, does an about-face after God gets his attention via the arch-enemy of the Israelite people, the Assyrians.
4. Here is a little question worth pondering. Do evil spirits know the names of any Christians? What is the Biblical evidence?

Answer: yes, because an evil spirit once called a preacher by name in the Bible.

Yep.

In Acts 19:13-20 we read of an account where seven men, all brothers, attempted to cast an evil spirit out of a man. When they invoked the name of Jesus, whom Paul preached of, the spirit told them, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know, but who are ye?" (King James Version)

The man who had the spirit living inside him then leaped upon the exorcists, or "witch doctors" and beat them up, leaving all seven of them naked and wounded.
Christians often interpret this to mean that these men were not followers of Christ; they were merely trying to use His authority without developing a personal relationship with Him.

A couple of interesting thoughts comes from all this. What other names, Christian or non-Christian, might evil spirits know?
5. How does the Bible say that one can determine if a spirit is of God or not, according to 1 John 4:1-6?

Answer: every spirit that says that Jesus has come in fleshly form is of God; those that deny it, are not of God.

1 John 4:2 and 3 in the King James Version puts it this way:

"Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: and every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world."

It plainly says that "YE" or YOU -- a human reader -- may know.
6. There are three things that bear record in heaven and three things that bear witness in earth, according to 1 John 5:6 and 7. (KJV) The record bearers in heaven are listed as the the Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost. What does John say are the three things that bear witness in earth in agreement with each other? (Obviously, since this quiz is about spirits, that choice will be given in all possible answers. Hey, I'm fair, but not THAT fair!)

Answer: the spirit, the water and the blood.

Christians believe that Jesus is the Word, based on the beginning of John's gospel, where he goes to great lengths to relate the Word of God to the embodiment of Christ. The three smaller books of John were likely written by the same author.
Christianity teaches of a Heavenly Trinity, and according to this passage, one might infer an earthly trinity as well.
Taking that thought one step further, we could also imagine an un-holy trinity of Satan, that being found in the book of Revelation (also written by John): the beast, the false prophet and the antichrist.

In fact, one could even say that heaven, hell and earth comprise a trinity of sorts.
7. Does the King James Bible ever state or imply that at least some spirits are angels?

Answer: Yes

The seventh verse of the first chapter of Hebrews, in the King James Version, quotes from Psalm 104:4, which states, "Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire."

This is a direct reference back to the first verse in Psalm 104, in which God is the object of David's praise.
8. According to the Bible, are there any examples of a ghost or spirit being father to a child?

Answer: Yes

This example is found in Matthew 1:18-25.

Verse 18, speaking of the birth of Jesus, says of Mary that "...she was found with child of the Holy Ghost." (KJV)
9. When the apostle Peter delivered his sermon on the day of Pentecost, just fifty days after Jesus' resurrection from the dead, he mentioned a gift in the text in Acts 2:38. What is the gift that he told his listeners that they could obtain, if they would only repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ?

Answer: the gift of the Holy Ghost

Sometimes it is difficult for Christians to remember, but all of his listeners were Jewish. Peter himself was a Jew, and this was the early, early church to whom he was preaching God's message of repentance. Quite often, Christians may erroneously believe that they have a sort of a monopoly on God, but it all started with one Jewish man: Jesus Christ.
10. In the Old Testament book of Job, in chapter 32:8, what does the King James Version of the Bible say that there is a spirit in?

Answer: man

The 8th verse says, "But there is a spirit in man; and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding."

This is just one of many references throughout the Bible that teaches that man has a spirit inside him.
