Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What exactly is Tzitzis?

Answer: the fringes on a four cornered garment

Some people wear these four cornered garments (called a tallit) all day, even when they're sleeping.
2. Is a Mezuzah (a scroll inscribed on one side with Biblical passages, and inserted in a small case that is attached to the doorposts) needed on every doorpost in your house?

Answer: No

A Mezuzah is placed on every doorpost leading to rooms where it would be appropriate to bring a holy item into. Therefore, rooms such as bathrooms, toilets and the like, should not have a Mezuzah put up on the doorpost.
3. The Jewish religious holiday celebrated shortly after Pesach is called Shavuot.

Answer: True

Shavuot is celebrated exactly 50 days after Pesach (Passover).
From the second day of Pesach Jews count the 'Omer' until Shavous.
Alternative spellings of Shavuot are Shavuos, Shavous and Shavout.

Though Lag B'Omer is a festive day in between between Pesach and Shavuot, 33 days after Pesach to be exact, it is not a religious holiday.
4. When is it all right to use a traffic light on Shabbat (Sabbath)?

Answer: If it is on a timer and will change without any action on your part

Using electronics is only forbidden if you are causing the traffic light to change. If it is going to change anyway you can use the light.
5. In the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, some people have the custom to sleep in little 'huts'.

Answer: True

The Yom Tov of Sukkot is to remind the Jewish people of the time when their ancestors had to live in huts in the desert.
6. There are two ways to be Jewish, one is to convert, and the other is through paternal heredity.

Answer: False

To be born Jewish your mother has to be Jewish.
7. What are Milchig and Fleishig?

Answer: dairy and meat products

Milchig and Fleishig are forbidden to be mixed (or cooked or eaten etc. together). The Torah says that you shouldn't cook a kid in its mother's milk.
8. What is Cholent?

Answer: Traditional stew eaten on Shabbos

Cholent is made out of beans and is slow cooked from (just before) the beginning of Shabbat. This is very beneficial because Jews cannot cook something on Shabbat (put something onto the fire), but they can have something on the fire from before Shabbat.
9. How old should a baby be when he has his Brit (circumcision)?

Answer: eight days

The word Brit means covenant, and is a reminder of the covenant that G-d made with Avraham (Abraham).
10. Jews have Shabbos on the seventh day, because G-d rested.

Answer: True

We have Shabbos on the seventh day, because Hashem 'rested' on that day. That is, he had finished creating the world by that day. He had created Adam and Eve on the sixth day, and then the world was complete. On Shabbos we acknowledge and reflect on the creation of the world and all of G-d's remarkable deeds. Shabbos starts on Friday evening at sunset until Saturday night at Sunset.
