Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Judges 4:3 tells of the Israelites "crying out to the LORD" as a Canaanite king who had nine hundred chariots of iron was harshly oppressing them. What was name of the king who oppressed the Israelites for twenty years in the days of Deborah and Barak?

Answer: Jabin

Jabin, king of the Canaanites, "harshly oppressed" the Israelites for twenty years, according to Judges 4:3 in the NKJV. It appears he had more than ample military might to oppress the Israelites as the same verse states he had nine hundred chariots of iron. The information about the nine hundred chariots is also repeated in Judges 4:13.

However, Jabin's massive military strength was no match for Deborah and Barak who led the Israelites into battle. Judges 4 tells of God delivering the Canaanite army into the hands of the Israelites.

Deborah, of course, was a Judge of Israel and Barak was the commander of the nation's army.
2. Count the words at the beginning of the Old Testament, using the NKJV, and the nine hundredth word appears in Genesis 2:6. That verse is presented here with Genesis 2:5 for context and with the nine hundredth word missing: "For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up from _____ earth and watered the whole face of the ground" What is the missing word that is also the nine hundredth word in the Old Testament?

Answer: the

The nine hundredth word in the Old Testament, using the NKJV, is simply 'the'. (Yes, I must confess I was hoping for something more dramatic when it came to the nine hundredth word, but it is what it is.)

According to Scripture, mist arose from the ground to water the earth. It was sort of like a built in irrigation system, I suppose. Scripture goes on to tell of the creation of Adam and Eve. Later, rain, as we know it would follow.
3. Count the verses in the Old Testament and the nine hundredth verse is Genesis 31:26. The verse in the NKJV quotes an angry Laban making the following statement: "What have you done, that you have stolen away unknown to me, and carried away my daughters like captives taken with the sword?" Who was Laban speaking to?

Answer: Jacob

The correct answer is Jacob. Genesis 31 tells of Jacob fleeing from Laban after serving him for a number of years. Among those accompanying Jacob were his two wives Leah and Rachel, both daughters of Laban. It's a long story, but Jacob and Laban were often at loggerheads and Jacob apparently saw the only solution was to flee from Laban.

However, Chapter 31 tells of Laban making a covenant with Jacob and it apparently worked as Scripture does not tell of any more clashes between the two men.

If anyone is interested, the first thirty chapters of Genesis in the NKJV contain 874 verses, as per the information below:
Genesis 1 -- 31 verses
Genesis 2 -- 25 verses
Genesis 3 -- 24 verses
Genesis 4 -- 26 verses
Genesis 5 -- 32 verses
Genesis 6 -- 22 verses
Genesis 7 -- 24 verses
Genesis 8 -- 22 verses
Genesis 9 -- 29 verses
Genesis 10 -- 32 verses
Genesis 11 -- 32 verses
Genesis 12 -- 20 verses
Genesis 13 -- 18 verses
Genesis 14 -- 24 verses
Genesis 15 -- 21 verses
Genesis 16 -- 16 verses
Genesis 17 -- 27 verses
Genesis 18 -- 33 verses

Genesis 26 -- 35 verses
Genesis 27 -- 46 verses
Genesis 28 -- 22 verses
Genesis 29 -- 35 verses
Genesis 30 -- 43 verses
Add on twenty-six verses from Genesis 31 and you get nine hundred verses.
4. Count the chapters in the Old Testament (NKJV) and the nine hundredth chapter is Jonah 4. Out of the four options below, which city is Jonah most associated with?

Answer: Nineveh

Out of the four options, Jonah is most associated with Nineveh. Jonah, of course, received instructions from God to go to Nineveh to preach a message of repentance. Initially he tried to run from God and when this proved impossible, Jonah relented and went to Nineveh.

That verse is presented here with the nine hundredth word missing: "Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, ______:" What is the missing word that is also the nine hundredth word in the New Testament?

Answer: saying

The nine hundredth word in the New Testament, using the NKJV, is 'saying'. In other words, Matthew 2:17 reads"Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:" Verse 18 goes on to complete a quote from Isaiah. Isaiah's quote is as follows:
"A voice was heard in Ramah,
Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted,
Because they are no more."

The verses are part of a prophecy by Isaiah pertaining to the deaths of innocents. Herod, in his insatiable desire to cling to power, ordered the execution of all infants aged two and under to prevent Baby Jesus from growing up and becoming a king and replacing him. To escape Herod's slaughter of infants aged two and under, Joseph and his family fled to Egypt after being told to do so by an angel.

According to Matthew 2:15, the fact Jesus and His family moved to Egypt is additional fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy which proclaimed "Out of Egypt I called My Son." (Hosea 11:1)
6. Count the verses in the New Testament and the nine hundredth verse is Matthew 25:37. The verse in the NKJV states: "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink'?" Who is Matthew 25:37 quoting?

Answer: Jesus

Matthew 25:37, the nine hundredth verse of the New Testament using the NKJV, quotes Jesus. The verse is part of a discourse about the Son of Man judging the nations. The discourse runs from Matthew 25:21-46.

If anyone is interested, here are the number of verses in the first twenty-four chapters of Matthew to determine which verse is Number 900:
Matthew 1 -- 25
Matthew 2 -- 23
Matthew 3 -- 17
Matthew 4 -- 25
Matthew 5 -- 48
Matthew 6 -- 34
Matthew 7 -- 29

Matthew 19 -- 30
Matthew 20 -- 34
Matthew 21 -- 46
Matthew 22 -- 46
Matthew 23 -- 38
Matthew 24 -- 51
The total comes to 863 verses. Add on Matthew 25:1-37, and you end up at the nine hundredth verse.
7. Using the NKJV, a name of a king of Israel appears more than nine hundred times in the Old and New Testaments. Out of the four choices below, what is the name of the king whose name appears more than nine hundred times in the Bible?

Answer: David

David is the correct answer. Using the NKJV, his name appears no less than nine hundred and seventy-four times in the Old and New Testament. No other monarch comes close. For example, David's famous son, Solomon, who served as king of Israel, is mentioned two hundred and seventy-two times in the Bible.

Incidentally, out of the nine hundred and seventy-four times David's name appears in Scripture, fifty-four of the occurrences are in the New Testament. David's name can be found in the Gospel of Matthew fifteen different times alone.
8. Of all the nations mentioned in the Bible, the only one with more than nine hundred occurrences, using the NKJV, is Israel.

Answer: True

True. Israel and Israelites appear easily more than nine hundred times in the NKJV. In fact, the two words can be found more 2,431 times. The only other nation that comes even close is Judah (the nation and the man) with 813 mentions. Next in order of popularity is Egypt and Egyptian with six hundred and seventy-four mentions.

Nations like Lebanon, Syria and Persia lag far behind with sixty-five mentions, eleven mentions and thirty-three mentions.
9. Using the NKJV, the number nine hundred does not appear once in the New Testament.

Answer: True

True. In fact, the number nine hundred can be found only twice in the entire Bible, using the NKJV, and both occurrences are in the Old Testament. As pointed out in the answer section to Question No. 1, the two occurrences are Judges 4:3 and 4:13.
10. According to Scripture, some men, in the early days after creation, lived more than nine hundred years. Out of the options below, which one lived beyond nine hundred years?

Answer: They all did

Methuselah, Jared and Adam all lived beyond nine hundred years. According to Genesis 5:27, Methuselah was 969 years old when he died, making him the oldest person in the Bible. Meanwhile, Jared was 962 years old when he died, as per Genesis 5:20, while Adam was 930 years old at the time of death, as per Genesis 5:5.

For the record, two other men in Scripture also lived beyond nine hundred years. Seth lived to be 912 years, as per Genesis 5:68, while Cainan lived to be 910 years, as per Genesis 5:14.
