Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Acts 4:36 in the NKJV, Joses was the original name of an a worker in the early church, but took on a new name when others gave him a nickname. What was the his new name?

Answer: Barnabas

According to Acts 4:6, Barnabas was originally known as Joses. (In the NIV, his original name appears as Joseph.) Scripture states he was a Levite from Cyprus and the disciples opted to call him Barnabas, which means 'Son of Encouragement'. In addition to being an encouragement to others, Barnabas was a generous giver. Acts 4:37 states he sold a field he owned and "brought the money and put it at the apostles' feet."
2. Out of the names of four prophets of God below, which one is most associated with Mount Carmel?

Answer: Elijah

Elijah is the correct answer. According to 1 Kings 18, he scored a decisive victory over 450 prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. Scripture states Elijah and the prophets of Baal had a showdown to see who could successfully call on a higher power to ignite a sacrificial offering on Mount Carmel.

The 450 prophets called on Baal while Elijah called on the LORD with Elijah being the clear winner.
3. What was the name of the prophet Gehazi was a servant to?

Answer: Elisha

Gehazi was a servant of Elisha, a prophet of God, as per 2 Kings 4:25. Gehazi is perhaps best known for being struck with leprosy after he fraudulently obtained money and clothing from Naaman, a Syrian army commander who had been cleansed of leprosy by Elisha.

When Gehazi lied to Elisha about receiving the reward from Naaman, Scripture states he became leprous, "as white as snow". For further details see 2 Kings 5:20-27.
4. Complete the missing word from John 15:13 in the NKJV: "Greater ______ has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends."

Answer: love

The missing word is 'love' The statement, of course, was made by Jesus to His disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane. Shortly after making this statement, Scripture states Jesus laid down His life for mankind when He was crucified at Mount Calvary. However, three days later He triumphantly rose from the dead, as documented in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

In the process, Christ gave us forgiveness of our sins and the gift of eternal life, Scripture states.
5. According to 1 Kings 16:15-19, what was the name of the Israelite king who set his royal house on fire and died in the flames?

Answer: Zimri

Scripture states Zimri set his royal house on fire in Jerusalem and died in the flames when he realized rival forces had him surrounded. He had reigned for seven turbulent days after he killed Ellah, the reigning king and his entire family as well as his friends. He had been the commander of Ellah's chariots.
6. What was the decree Haman was responsible for getting the king of Persia to approve? (Esther 3:8-15)

Answer: Extermination of all Jews in the kingdom

Haman got Ahasueres, king of Persia, to approve a decree to exterminate all Jews in the the massive kingdom that stretched from Idia in the east to Ethiopia in the west. (In the NIV, Ahasueres is known as Xerxes.)

It's apparent the king was extremely naive to approve Haman's proposal. At the best, the king put tremendous stock in the advice offered by Haman.

See Esther 3:8-15 for details about Haman getting the diabolical decree approved.
7. What was the name of Rachel's handmaiden who became a concubine of her husband Jacob? (Genesis 35:25)

Answer: Bilhah

Scripture states Rachel gave permission to her husband Jacob to sleep with her handmaiden Bilhah to produce children. Rachel was unable to conceive at the time. Later, however, Rachel gave birth to Joseph and Benjamin.

According to Genesis 35:25, Bilhah bore two sons for Jacob. Their names were Dan and Naphtali,

In addition to having Rachel as his wife, Jacob was married to her sister Leah. On top of this, Leah also gave permission to Jacob to sleep with her handmaiden Zilpah to produce children.
8. Complete the missing word from Matthew 23:37, a quote by Jesus, in the NKJV: "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who stones the prophets and those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks _________ her wings, but you were not willing."

Answer: under

The missing word is 'under'. In the verse, Jesus likens himself to a mother hen attempting to protect her chicks with the chicks being Jerusalem. However, the mother hen can only do so much if the chicks continually abandon her. A similar pronouncement is made by Jesus in Luke 13:34.

According to Scripture, Jesus made the statement while speaking to a multitude of people, telling them about the sinful ways of the Pharisees.
9. Complete the missing word from the Song of Solomon 2:4 in the NKJV: "He brought me to the banqueting house and his _________ over me was love."

Answer: banner

The missing word is 'banner'. The verse has been incorporated into a modern day Christian song titled 'His Banner Over Me Is Love' (Check out YouTube if you're not familiar with the song.)

The Song of Solomon tells of a love story between King Solomon and a young country girl, known simply as the Shulamite.
10. Now take the first letter of each answer above to come up with a nine-letter name in the New Testament associated with Satan.

Answer: Beelzebub

Beelzebub is the correct answer, as per Matthew 10:25, 12:24, 12:27, Mark 3:22, Luke 11:15, 18 and 19.

Beelzebub is often used as another name for Satan by many Christians. The Catholic Church regards Beelzebub as one of the seven princes of Hell.

In Mark 3:22, the Pharisees accused Jesus of driving out demons with the power of Beelzebub. To which Jesus responded: "How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided among itself, it cannot stand. And if a house is divided among itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end."
