Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Windows system was the first to incoporate the System Restore?

Answer: ME

System Restore was first introduced in Windows ME. System Restore allows you to set your computer back to an earlier date without deleting anything.
2. Holding down [SHIFT] while inserting a CD does what?

Answer: Turns off Autorun

If you don't want Autorun on, you can turn it off using this method. This works with all Windows systems.
3. Pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and then "K" on a Windows terminal does what?

Answer: Locks the terminal

This key combination brings up an option window. Pressing "K" will then lock the terminal, but will still allow applications to run in the background. Only your user ID or an administator's ID can unlock the terminal.
4. Which of the following should you NEVER do if your system has a virus?

Answer: Run System Backup

System Backup will also back up the virus. The best thing is to move files to CD or DVD, but scan them with Antivirus before using them.
5. What happens when you enter "cmd" into the "run" line (Windows XP)?

Answer: It opens a command prompt

The command prompt allows you to enter DOS commands while running Windows in the background.
6. What is the Registry used for?

Answer: It stores information about all of the software and hardware on the system

All software and hardware settings are stored here. If you know what you are doing, you can edit these settings if there is a problem.
7. In Device Manager, what does it mean when a hardware has a yellow "!" beside its name?

Answer: The hardware is not working/not recognized

This usually means that Windows can not recognize the device. Reinstalling or updating the device drivers will usually help.
8. Clicking on "Tools" and then "Map Network Drive" on a single system, does what?

Answer: Nothing

"Map Network Drive" will allow you to connect to a network drive, if you are connected to a network. Since you are not, this does nothing.
9. If you can not move your desktop icons, it means...?

Answer: "Auto Arrange" is selected

Right-click anywhere on the desktop, and mouse-over "Arrange Icons By". Make sure "Auto Arrange" is not checked off.
10. CTRL+ALT+DEL is also known as which of these?

Answer: Three finger salute

Because of the position of the three keys, users need to press each one individually - hence three finger salute.
