Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of the following players with over 300 home runs, hit more home runs than striking out in their career?

Answer: Nobody has done it

No 20th Century player in history has ever done this! DiMaggio has the lowest ratio by hitting 361 dingers and striking out 369 times in his career. Yogi Berra has a differential of 56, and Ted Williams 188.
2. What 6ft 2in, 225lb player used to cut his sleeves off to expose his massive biceps to intimidate pitchers?

Answer: Ted Kluszewski

Kluszewski of the Reds used to do this. He was known as 'Big Klu' amongst players. He hit 49 home runs in 1954 and retired with 279.
3. How many home runs is the most that Stan Musial hit in a season?

Answer: 39

He hit 39 in 1948 with his career Cardinal team. He led the league in 8 batting categories that year and retired with 475 home runs.
4. Milt Pappas lost a perfect game by one pitch with two outs in the ninth inning in 1972. What happened on that pitch?

Answer: Walked a pinch-hitter

Pappas with the Cubs walked Padres pinch-hitter Larry Stahl on a 3-2 pitch. The Cubs won the game 8-0. I would wager that the umpire had an escort after the game.
5. How many times in his career did Babe Ruth strikeout 100 times in a season?

Answer: 0

The Babe never did. The closest that he came was 93 times in 1923 with the Yankees.
