BAR were disqualified from the San Marino Grand Prix and excluded from the next two Grands Prix at Catalunya, Spain, and Monte Carlo, Monaco for running Jenson Button's car underweight.

Answer: Luca Badoer and Marc Gene

At the Bahrain Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher retired due to mechanical failure for the first time since the German Grand Prix in 2001, a run of 59 Grand Prix.

Robert Doornbos replaced Patrick Friesacher from the German Grand Prix until the end of the season due to sponsorship issues. Minardi's only points came at the United States Grand Prix, where they finished fifth and sixth. This however, were the last two positions in the race as only the six Bridgestone shod cars raced, due to the fact that the Michelin tyres on the other 14 cars weren't safe on the Indianapolis circuit.

The 2005 season was Red Bull's first season in Formula One, after taking over and renaming the Jaguar team from Ford. The second drive was meant to be shared between Christian Klien and Tonio Liuzzi, swapping over every four races, but by the end of the season, Tonio Liuzzi had only raced in four of the 19 Grand Prix.

Williams tried to sign Jenson Button from BAR for the 2005 season, but were unable to as the FIA ruled that he had to remain at BAR. Frank Williams allegedly preferred Antonio Pizzonia over Nick Heidfeld for the second seat at Williams, but he gave into pressure of the commercial demands of BMW to have a German driver in the team.
