The IPL tournament adopted the MCC Code of conduct for fair play. The Kingfisher fair play award was instituted and points were awarded to all teams by the umpires based on criteria like playing in the spirit of the game, respect for the opposition, respect for the laws of the game and respect for the match officials.

At the end of the series, Chennai Super Kings topped the table with 142.5 points and they won the Kingfisher fair play award.
