Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who did Tampa Bay play in the first game of the 2005-06 season?

Answer: Minnesota Vikings

The Buccaneers were scheduled to play one game against every team in the NFC North, which had four teams that used to be in the old NFC Central with the Bucs. Back then, they played these teams twice a year. In the opener, the Bucs traveled to the Metrodome to meet the Vikings who had advanced to the NFC Divisional Playoffs the year before.

The Bucs upset the Vikings in Minnesota 24-13, in a building that the Buccaneers historically had trouble in.
2. The Buccaneers made their first-ever trip to Buffalo to play the Bills during the 2005-06 season?

Answer: False

The Buccaneers still had not played Buffalo on the road to date by 2006. They did, however, host the Bills in Week 2 and beat them 19-3 to go to 2-0. This gave the Buccaneers a 6-2 lifetime series lead over the Bills with every game coming in Tampa.
3. Cadillac Williams set a rookie record for 434 yards in how many weeks?

Answer: 3

Cadillac Williams rushed for 434 yards in his first 3 NFL games setting the rookie record. However, he got hurt against Detroit and was held to 13 yards in 11 carries. He sat out Week 5 against the Jets but still held on for rookie of the year in the NFC.
4. Which team did Brian Griese end his season against?

Answer: Miami Dolphins

The Bucs played all the listed teams in the 2005-06 season, but it was against the Dolphins in a 27-13 Bucs win that Griese's season ended after tearing ligaments in his knee after getting hit by linebacker Zach Thomas.
5. Chris Simms won his first NFL game of the season as a starter against what team?

Answer: Washington Redskins

Chris Simms mopped up decently against Miami and then proceeded to lose against the lowly 49ers on the road 15-10, and then again at Raymond James Stadium 34-14 against Carolina before a memorable win at home against the Redskins. The Bucs scored to trail 35-34 late in the game, only to have Coach Gruden go for 2 and the win.

In a controversial call, Alstott crossed the goal line to give the Bucs the win 36-35.
6. What was the record of the Bucs against their NFC South opponents?

Answer: 5-1

The Bucs lost only one game in their division, a 34-14 loss at home to the Panthers. They swept both the Falcons and the Saints to finish the year with a 5-1 division mark.
7. Who did the Bucs trade for when Brian Griese was hurt?

Answer: Tim Rattay

The Bucs started the year with three quarterbacks. Brian Griese was the starter, Chris Simms was the back-up, and Luke McCown was the third stringer. When Griese went down, they traded a conditional draft pick to San Francisco for Tim Rattay. Shawn King was an ex-Buccaneer that was out of the league during the season after playing for the Arizona Cardinals. Josh McCown played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2005-06.
8. How many yards was the field goal near the end of the game against the Bears that Matt Bryant missed?

Answer: 29 yards

With 2:47 to go, Matt Bryant who had been fairly reliable all season, missed a 29-yard field goal that would have tied the game at 13-13. The Bucs lost the game 13-10 to fall to 7-4 on the season.
9. The Bucs won the NFC South by a full game over Carolina in 2005.

Answer: False

Both the Bucs and the Panthers finished the season at 11-5, but the Bucs won because they had a better division record than the Panthers. They split their two regular season meetings with each team winning on the road. The Panthers won in Tampa 34-14, and the Bucs won in Carolina 20-10.
10. How many yards of offense did the Buccaneers give up in their NFC Wildcard game?

Answer: 120

The Buccaneers held the Redskins to a frivolous 120 yards of offense in the home playoff game to the Redskins but still lost. Two costly turnovers gave the Redskins a 14-0 lead and they held on to win, 17-10.
