Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which stroke or style is usually swum in a warm-up?

Answer: Freestyle

Freestyle is the main swimming style and the easiest one for distance purposes. It is the fastest stroke for most swimmers, and is usually swum in the freestyle relay (freestyle allows a swimmer to use any swim stroke or style he or she prefers). The only race to have a distance over 400m is freestyle, in which frontcrawl is most commonly performed.
2. If it is a freestyle race, do you have to swim frontcrawl?

Answer: No

In a freestyle relay, frontcrawl is usually performed, but backstroke, breaststroke, and fly can be done also.
3. What does ASA stand for?

Answer: Amateur Swimming Association

In England, a lot of the counties end in ASA. Such as Staffordshire ASA, whereas clubs tend to end in SC (Swimming Club).
4. What is the first stroke in a medley relay?

Answer: backstroke

The order of a medley relay is: back, breast, fly, free. An Individual Medley is fly, back, breast, free.
5. What does AOD stand for?

Answer: Age On Day

AOD galas are better for swimmers with their birthdays at the end of the year, because they have a chance to compete against people who are closer to their own age, because they have to swim with older people because of how their birthday falls in non-AOD galas.
