Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the Monarchs' offensive line?

Answer: Nasty Boyz

The powerful offensive line allowed the Monarchs' passing oriented offense to rack up the points.
2. The nickname given to the Monarchs' defense, specifically their defensive line was what?

Answer: The Hart Attack defense

The defense led by Roy Hart, terrified other teams' offenses and led the league in sacks. Surprisingly, Roy Hart himself, who some felt was under-sized for playing center, was second on the team for total sacks at 9.5 sacks for the opening season.
3. What was the nickname given to the team's passing unit?

Answer: The Bomb Squad

The name arose from the spectacular long passes that Stan Gelbaugh (the quarterback) used to throw, and the massive average yardage per catch that the receivers achieved.
4. How did fan favourite WR Jon Horton celebrate almost every touchdown he scored?

Answer: He threw the ball into the crowd

The league fined Jon Horton every time he did this, but he didn't seem to care. He averaged about 21 yards per catch in his first and (sadly) only season with the team.
5. Which QB spent most of the 1991 season on the bench due to the successes of QB Stan Gelbaugh?

Answer: Jon Witkowski

Witkowski was originally the team's first-string QB, but Stan Gelbaugh did such a good job, Jon didn't see much playing time.
6. The only tied game in the World League's history occurred between the London Monarchs and which team?

Answer: Birmingham Fire

In 1953, after a scoreless tie against Duke, Navy football coach Eddie Erdelatz said, "A tie is like kissing your sister."
7. How many points were scored in the second half of World Bowl 1991?

Answer: None

After the Monarchs scored (and converted) three touchdowns in the first half, the game settled into a fierce defensive battle, and no further scores were made.
8. Who was MVP of the first ever World Bowl?

Answer: Safety Dan Crossman

Dan ran one interception back for a touchdown, and made two further interceptions that day.
9. What was the name of the music single made by the London Monarchs?

Answer: "Yo Go Monarchs"

Not the best of records, but really good sport-related records are a rarity anyhow.
10. What was the tune played every time the Monarchs scored a touchdown?

Answer: Free - "Alright now"

The crowd would sing and clap along to the chorus, and it made for a great atmosphere.
