Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Riker is falling asleep in his chair during a presentation being given by one of the senior officers onboard the Enterprise, but when he is nudged awake, he begins applauding, even though the presentation is far from over and nobody else in the room is applauding with him.

Answer: Schisms

In the opening teaser of this episode, Data is reciting poetry to a small gathering of crewmembers inside a room onboard the Enterprise. Many of the attendees are noticeably bored, with Riker being the most visibly inattentive of the group. Presumably, his inability to stay awake wasn't simply as the result of Data's readings. We would soon find out his tiredness was the direct result of the mysterious aliens from the alternate realm having abducted the ship's first officer while in his sleep on multiple occasions, performing their equally mysterious medical experiments upon him.
2. In the same episode, a noxious gas entering the environmental control systems threatens to asphyxiate Picard and several other crewmembers on the bridge simultaneously while a song from Earth's 20th century, which is playing all over the com system, is halted only by the shut down of main power.

Answer: Evolution

The nanites that were being experimented on in the science lab are covertly wreaking havoc with the Enterprise's computer systems. One of the things they cause is the unsolicited playing of an instrumental song called "Stars And Stripes Forever" all over the com system (presumably something stored in the ship's database); the song only comes to an end when Picard orders the immediate shutdown of main power.

The nanites later tap into the environmental control systems and discharge nitorgen oxide in an attempt to incapacitate the bridge crew, an action that proves that the microcomputer lifeforms indeed have intelligence and, thus, are sentient beings.
3. Dr. Crusher is hearing voices while she's laying in bed inside her quarters, then when she turns on the lights, she accidentally knocks over and shatters a glass of wine she had been drinking moments before.

Answer: Cause And Effect

Among the recurring events we saw while the Enterprise was trapped in the time loop was Dr. Crusher winding down for the night inside her quarters. The scene always starts with her trimming some flowers with a pair of scissors while also enjoying a glass of wine and humming a song to herself.

When she finally slides into bed, she suddenly hears a cacophony of voices, prompting her to turn on the bedside lights, which then causes her to knock over the glass of wine she'd just placed down moments before. We would find out from Data towards the end of the episode that those voices were that of people onboard the Enterprise, echoes from previous time loops discussing an imminent catastrophe.
4. Worf is declared as the only compatible medical donor for an alien man recovering in sickbay, but when he persistently refuses to partake in the medical procedure, the alien man ultimately dies.

Answer: The Enemy

The dying Romulan that is rescued from the planet and recovering in sickbay is diagnosed with the chance of staying alive if given a transfusion of ribosomes. Out of all the people on the Enterprise, the only compatible donor is Worf, who still harbors ill feelings towards the aliens who built their empire near The Neutral Zone.

The combination of Worf's stubbornness in helping and the Romulan's persistent bitterness (despite his serious condition) leads to prolonged delays, which eventually results in the Romulan's death on his sickbay bed, as time to initiate the transfusion procedure has expired.
5. In the same episode, Geordi tells a young girl that his VISOR helps him to see while the young girl tells Geordi that her vocal processor helps her to make sounds, all before that same girl is later seen falling into a pond and getting herself wet while inside of the Enterprise's arboretum.

Answer: Dark Page

At the beginning of the episode, Lwaxana Troi is in Ten Forward speaking with Picard while members of the telepathic Cairn are seen mingling with other members of the crew, the young girl named Hedril speaking to both Geordi and Data. The Enterprise's chief engineer shares with her that his VISOR helps him to see while Hedril briefly explains to him that her vocal processor, which all members of the Cairn presumably seemed to possess (including the man who would initiate telepathic contact with Counselor Troi later on), helps her to make speech. Halfway through the episode, Counselor Troi is giving a group of Cairn (which Hedril is a part of) a guided tour of the ship's arboretum. Shortly after entering, Hedril breaks off from the group to walk along the edge of the pond near the other kids who are playing, dropping into the water accidentally and abruptly interrupting Counselor Troi's guided tour. Yet the interruption is only a minor one compared to the more serious one: Lwaxana having fallen unconscious, which prompts her half-Betazoid daughter and the other Cairn to rush to her side and alert sickbay for medical attention.
6. This was the FIRST episode in which Picard partakes in his Dixon Hill holodeck program.

Answer: The Big Goodbye

This would also be one of several episodes where crewmembers are trapped inside of a holodeck program and unable to exit the computer-generated fantasy with the safeties offline. Picard, Data, Dr. Crusher and a crewman who only goes by the name Whalen, who is said to be an expert in 20th-century history, are the participants in this particular murder-mystery adventure.

The fourth-season episode "Clues" did show us Picard briefly in his Dixon Hill program again, this time with his El-Aurian friend Guinan at his side, but this episode, of course, aired much later than "The Big Goodbye" and, thus, cannot qualify as the correct answer. We do not see Picard playing the role of Dixon Hill in neither "Time Squared" nor "We'll Always Have Paris".
7. This was the FIRST episode where Yar, in some form or another, appeared on the holodeck.

Answer: Code Of Honor

Yar demonstrates her hand-to-hand combat skills to the Ligonians by running a martial arts simulation on the holodeck, where she squares off against a single robed fighter with the hologrid walls visible all around them. This scene also allowed us to get an early insight into how interactive characters on the holodeck function, as Yar explains that the robed fighter won't move or react until she makes a move. Yar doesn't appear on the holodeck at all in the other three episodes.
8. In the same episode, a Ferengi accuses Picard and the Enterprise crew for disabling its ship while two alien intruders of a different race confront Geordi by accusing him of causing harm to the people on their home planet.

Answer: Force Of Nature

The special corridor that was designed to award safe passage for warp-capable starships raises several issues abut the future of the Federation. Near the beginning of the episode, a Ferengi vessel pretending to be derelict and adrift is found within the corridor, the DaiMon accusing Picard and his crew of intentionally disabling it as a precursor to potential war while Picard tries to convince him otherwise. Later, an unidentified alien ship intercepts the Enterprise with two scientists--a brother and sister--boarding the ship via engineering and demanding that Gerodi stop killing their people.

It is revealed soon after that the warp energy from the Enterprise is creating rifts within that particular region of space, which is directly responsible for the climatic shifts on the aliens' homeworld.
9. Worf, from his tactical station on the bridge, launches a probe into a spatial anomaly, which disappears as soon as it enters; when he launches a second probe, the same exact thing happens, and an attempt to simply have the Enterprise moved away from the anomaly only results in the ship being further trapped inside.

Answer: Where Silence Has Lease

The ominous 'void' that has opened in space, which we later find out is being controlled by the mysterious being named 'Nagilum', sparks some curiosity among the bridge crew. Worf is ordered to launch a probe, but when the probe is discharged and heads towards the 'void', it disappears.

He's then ordered to launch a second probe with enhanced sensors, but the exact same thing happens, generating a bit of concern. When it's decided that they will simply resume their previous course, the Enterprise suddenly finds itself completely surrounded by the anomaly, unable to escape Nagilum's domain until after he has performed his 'experiments' on the crew.
10. An Enterprise crewmember has been cosmetically or surgically altered in order to blend in with a local alien population in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Ensign Ro

Nobody from the Enterprise, in fact, was cosmetically altered in any manner during this episode; everyone, including the troubled Ensign Ro herself, maintained their true original appearance while traversing the caves and upon arriving at the Bajoran encampment. "Unification, Part 1" is well-remembered for both Picard and Data having being altered to look like Romulans in order to work undercover and search for Spock down on Romulus.

In "First Contact", Riker's forehead has been altered to look like one of the local Malcorians when he arrives in the aliens' hospital at the beginning of the episode.

It would be revealed this was done as part of his scouting mission so that the Enterprise could gather sufficient information about the Malcorians before attempting to establish communications with them.

Then in "Who Watches The Watchers?", both Riker and Counselor Troi are altered to look like the raven-haired Mintakans, going down to the primeval planet in hopes of retrieving the missing scientist without contaminating the aliens' way of life and violating The Prime Directive.
