Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Rising Damp", what is the name of Rigsby's cat?

Answer: Vienna

"Rising Damp" ran from 1974-1978. The plots revolved around a miserly, scruffy landlord, Rigsby (played by the late Leonard Rossiter) and his motley assortment of tenants.
2. In "Blackadder Goes Forth" what is the first name of Captain Darling?

Answer: Kevin

Inspired historical lunacy from a core cast of Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh Lawrie, Tim McInnery and Miranda Richardson. The series covered Mediaeval, Elizabethan and Georgian periods and the First World War. We find out Captain Darling's name in the last programme of the series, "Goodbyee", when General Melchet informs Captain Darling that he is letting him go to the front to fight.
3. In "The Brittas Empire", what form of daycare did Carol use for her three children?

Answer: A cupboard

"The Brittas Empire" followed the antics of the obnoxious Gordon Brittas, manager of a leisure centre, and his put-upon staff. For those of you who worry about such things, the cupboard was a large one behind the reception desk and Carol decorated it nicely.
4. In "Just Good Friends" what was Penny's surname?

Answer: Warrender

This series charted the on/off relationship between Jack-the-lad Vince (Paul Nicholas) and the middle class Penny (Jan Francis)
5. Which "Dad's Army" character had the catchphrase "We're doomed"?

Answer: Fraser

Private Fraser (Frazer) was an undertaker, played by John Laurie. It's been pointed out that the correct spelling is Frazer. BBC website says Frazer, others Fraser. Quite a few people have scored 10/10 with Fraser, so I have now included both.
6. What was the waitress's name in "Fawlty Towers"?

Answer: Polly

Incredibly, only twelve episodes of "Fawlty Towers" were made. Connie Booth, who played Polly, was at one time married to John Cleese and they co-wrote the series.
7. Who played Damien Day in "Drop the Dead Donkey"?

Answer: Stephen Tompkinson

"Drop the Dead Donkey" was a highly topical comedy set in the offices of Globelink News. Damien Day was a roving reporter who wasn't above creating the news if it was a dull day. Jeff Rawle played George, the hangdog head of the editorial unit, Neil Pearson played Dave, the womanising gambler and Robert Duncan played Gus. I'm not sure what Gus's job was but he seemed to think he was in charge.
8. In "Only Fools and Horses", what part does Roger Lloyd-Pack play?

Answer: Trigger

First shown in 1981, the last episode was aired on Christmas Day 2003. Boycie was played by John Challis, Denzil by Paul Barber and Mickey Pearce by Patrick Murray. "Only Fools and Horses" was unusual in that it had a strong cast of supporting characters who had some marvellous lines over the years.
9. Who played the part of Blanco in "Porridge"?

Answer: David Jason

"Porridge" ran from 1973 to 1978, followed by the less successful "Going Straight". Ronnie Barker played Norman Stanley Fletcher, the late great Richard Beckinsdale played Lennie Godber and Ronnie Corbett starred with Ronnie Barker in "The Two Ronnies".
10. What was the name of the police station in "The Thin Blue Line"?

Answer: Gasforth

Starring Rowan Atkinson and written by Ben Elton, this series was first aired in 1995. I hope you've enjoyed this wallow in nostalgia. I think I'm going to have to visit the video shop now to see if I can find some of these gems.
