Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was the skeleton found?

Answer: On a tour bus

Mac and Stella are called to a crime scene in Times Square on the top of a double-decker tour bus. Some tourists found the skeleton sitting in the back seat. Although Stella thought it could be a fake skeleton, Mac proved her wrong. Fake skeletons are bleached and have drill marks.

The bus skeleton is blackened and it's been reassembled improperly, held together by wire and putty. Hawkes finds that the skeleton was that of a male teenager and that there's a fracture on the skull. Stella also notices a fingerprint in the putty that held the fingers together.

They take the putty and a few fingers back to the lab for examination.
2. What has built up on the skeleton's bones for ten years?

Answer: Exhaust fumes

While examining the finger bones from the tour bus skeleton, Mac and Danny find that there is a thick layer of material on top of the actual bone. When this is scraped off and tested, they find aromatic hydrocarbons (or diesel exhaust). Since this has such high benzene levels, the skeleton has been dead for more than a decade.
3. How many matches to the putty fingerprint does Stella come up with?

Answer: Six

While Mac and Danny check the bones, Stella searches the computer for the correct fingerprint to match the one embedded into the putty. She comes up with six matches, and they decide to go for one named Lester Jayne first. They find him working at a bus terminal, and he admits that he placed the skeleton on the bus to scare tourists. Mac searches around and finds an alleyway used by the buses.

He finds the entrance to a dank underground basement where he finds the rest of the skeleton.
4. What do the initials on the backpack, in the skeleton's room, stand for?

Answer: Aaron Moreland

When Mac finds the rest of the body, the CSIs start searching their new crime scene. They find a bed and a few personal belongings (including a backpack with the initials A. M.) and Stella finds a pocket knife in the victim's shoe. With the rest of the bones, Hawkes reassembles the body to determine what happened. During this, Mac investigates the clothing and finds a piece of paper in a front pocket. Danny checks what seems to be the murder weapon, a steel pipe, and he gets a print from it.
5. Which body part on the skeleton was once broken?

Answer: Leg

After examining the bones, Hawkes tells Stella what he can figure out by looking at the skeleton. He once wore braces, since his teeth are well set, and he was 5' 10" when he was alive. He also had a broken tibia at one time, but he let it heal on his own. Meanwhile, Aiden has gotten the okay from Mac, and she begins to reconstruct the victim's face. Mac finds a sketchbook in the kid's backpack that contains pictures of sights in New York.
6. In what year did Aaron leave his home?

Answer: 1987

After Aiden sculpts the victim's face, Mac and Stella finally get to talk to the parents and they confirm that it as their son, Aaron. Aaron left home in 1987 to pursue his dreams in New York City. His parents say that he was a musician although Mac found the pictures in the scrapbook and he seemed to be more of an artist.

When the parents look at Aiden's sculpture, they don't recognize the face as their son's. Meanwhile, Danny needs to go to the NYPD to find a fingerprint to match the one he pulled off the pipe.
7. Which is not a location of a picture seen in the scrapbook, that was found in the backpack?

Answer: Central Park

Stella and Mac look at the pictures and see one of a silhouette looking out a window at Port Authority. They track the location to a youth crisis center and talk to the owner who can't really remember the victim by his face. Back at the lab, Danny takes a closer look at the victim's shirt and finds a logo. The shirt is found to be a synthetic fiber.
8. Who sends the pictures of the sculpture to the media?

Answer: Aiden

Since the CSIs want to determine who the owner of their skull is, they decide to send pictures of the sculpture to the media across the country. Aiden does this before Mac tells her to because she feels that it's one of those times that the media and crime unit should team up. Meanwhile, Mac uses a UV light to find out what's written on the slip of paper found in the victim's pocket and he gets some letters, a date, and a time.
9. What item did the murderer pawn at a pawn shop?

Answer: A watch

Stella and Danny go to 7th Street to ask a representative of Lagronne fashion about rack runners, but he says that no one really stays in the job for too long. It turns out to be a dead end except for the fact that the shirt wasn't made until 1988. Mac uses a different light on the paper slip and finally finds out what's written.

It turns out that the victim pawned a watch, so they go and check out the pawn shop and the watch was picked up merely hours earlier.
10. What instrument did the murderer play at the pawn shop?

Answer: Guitar

When Stella and Mac get to the pawn shop, they're shocked to find that the watch was retrieved merely hours earlier, but they take the tape from the security camera over the counter and they play it. The customer conceals himself for the camera, but he leaves one major clue by playing a guitar in the pawn shop.

When he played it, he left DNA on the strings. The DNA goes into the system and the result comes up with Aaron Moreland. Aiden uses a computer to see what he would look like seventeen years into the future, and Stella and Mac recognize him as one of the men at the youth crisis center.

It turned out that he was on drugs and broke during the first week he was in the city. He sold his pocket knife and backpack, then killed someone he knew over two dollars, got clean six years later, and thought he was in the clear.

In the end, Aaron's parents finally know the truth.
