1. Aliens give a meek man the ability to do amazing feats.

Answer: Mr. Dingle, the Strong

Luther Dingle (Burgess Meredith) is so diffident that few people even notice him. As an experiment, some Martians give him super strength. Dingle uses his power to become a media sensation. He then announces he will lift a building on live television. Dismayed by Dingle's egotistical behavior, the Martians remove his strength and, of course, he is humiliated when he can't perform the promised feat.

The Martians then meet some Venusians looking for a test subject to give super intelligence. The Martians recommend Dingle.
2. One man bets another that he can't go a year without talking.

Answer: The Silence

Archie Taylor (Franchot Tone) is annoyed by the ceaseless and self-absorbed prattling of fellow club member Jamie Tennyson (Liam Sullivan). In order to get some peace and quiet, Taylor wagers that Tennyson can't go a year without speaking. Heavily in debt, Tennyson accepts and is housed in a special chamber in the club's basement where he can be observed at any time and all his basic needs are met.

As time passes and Tennyson hasn't spoken, Taylor uses dirty tricks to try to get Tennyson to lose the bet.

In the end, Tennyson emerges and puts out his and to collect his winnings. Taylor then admits he is broke and can't pay. Tennyson remains silent, but writes a note saying he knew he couldn't possibly win, so before he went into the chamber, he had his vocal chords cut.
3. A man discovers himself on a ship at sea, but feels he knows it will be sunk.

Answer: Judgment Night

Nehemiah Persoff plays Carl Lanser, a German passenger on a ship in 1942 with no memory of how he got there, yet has the feeling he knows everyone on board and that the ship will be attacked by a U-boat at a precise time. At that time a U-boat does surface and looking through binoculars, Lanser sees the captain and it's himself.

The submarine torpedoes the ship and machine-guns the survivors. Suddenly Lanser finds himself on the U-boat as an officer suggests that they might face damnation for their actions. Lanser discounts the suggestion not knowing he will have to relive the sinking for eternity.
4. A bookie trades his life for his son's.

Answer: In Praise of Pip

A bookie, Max Phillips (Jack Klugman), learns his son, Pip, has been wounded in Vietnam. Max laments that he wasn't a very good father. Out of remorse, he returns some money to a bettor, but is shot for doing so by his boss's henchman. Max wanders into an amusement park that he and Pip used to visit. Pip appears to him as he was as a boy, but Pip runs away.

When Max catches up, Pip tells Max he is dying and disappears. Max offers God to trade his life for Pip's. He dies, but Pip survives.
5. A man who likes loud noises suddenly becomes hard of hearing.

Answer: Sounds and Silences

John McGiver is Roswell Flemington, a man obsessed with sound. He annoys his wife by playing a record of naval battles at full volume. She leaves him to get some peace and quiet. Suddenly he finds what are usually quiet sounds are now deafening to him.

When he gets home, his wife has returned to pick up some of her things and he uses his willpower to shut out her blaring voice until it's just a tiny squeak, but now everything sounds that way to him.
6. A man is plagued by his household appliances.

Answer: A Thing About Machines

Bartlett Finchley (Richard Haydn) is convinced that his household appliances have conspired to exasperate him, so he destroys some of them. The other appliances have their revenge. His alarm clock and radio keep waking him during the night. The typewriter, TV and phone leave threatening messages.

His electric razor even attacks him. As he runs from his house, his car starts and chases him to the edge of the swimming pool where he falls in and drowns.
7. A brash man discovers he can trade health problems for youth, youth for money, and money for compassion.

Answer: The Self-Improvement of Salvadore Ross

Salvadore Ross (Don Gordon) is rejected by Leah Maitland, a woman he is pursuing. In a rage he punches a door and breaks a bone. At the hospital he meets a man with pneumonia and Ross jokingly suggests that they trade ailments. Later he discovers he has a cold, but no broken bones. Realizing his strange ability, he then trades a rich man 46 years of his life for much money and a posh apartment.

He then gradually buys back his youth from several young men. Now young and wealthy, he thinks Leah will be more agreeable, but she still won't accept him because she says he lacks compassion, a quality her father has. Ross then buys that trait from Mr. Maitland and wins Leah's love, but when Ross announces his intentions to Maitland, the woman's father, now without compassion, shoots Ross.

They keep hearing a girl giggling, but can't see her. They go outdoors where they find other fake things like a stuffed squirrel in a tree that falls over when leaned on and a car that doesn't work. Hearing a train whistle, they rush to the station and board the train, but when it stops, they are right back where that were. Suddenly a large hand reaches down and grabs them. Come to find out, they have been abducted by giant aliens and are now playthings for a giant's daughter.
9. A mild-mannered bumbling man is given a new personality by his guardian angel.

Answer: Mr. Bevis

Orson Bean plays James W. Bevis, a well-liked oddball who is partial to zither music, collecting knickknacks, and drives an antique car. He is fired and evicted on the same day, but his guardian angel (Henry Jones) steps in. One condition to making Bevis a successful man is that he will have to undergo a personality change. Now a success in business, rent paid up and driving a racy sports car, he is cool and abrupt.

He soon realizes he'd rather be a beloved kook than be prosperous, so he has the angel restore him to his previous life.
10. A convicted Civil War spy is being executed, but suddenly finds himself heading for home.

Answer: An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge

Just as a Confederate soldier (Roger Jacquet) is hanged off a railroad bridge, the rope breaks. He swims to safety dodging bullets and Union soldiers. His only thought is to get back home and has to struggle over rugged terrain. He eventually reaches his plantation.

His wife runs out to greet him and as she throws her arms around him, he is suddenly back at the bridge just as the noose snaps his neck.
