When "Home and Away" started, Pippa was married to Tom Fletcher, who later died. She then married Michael Ross, who also died. She left the show to be with Ian Routledge, and has returned a couple of times for special occasions. Pippa was played by two actresses, the first was Vanessa Dowling, who was replaced by Debra Lawrence. Debra married Dennis Coard, the actor who played Michael, Pippa's second husband.

Bobby fostered Sam, and when his dad, Greg, came to the Bay to look for him, he and Bobby fell in love and married. Bobby later died in a boating accident.

Angel named her baby daughter after her husband Shane, who died before the baby was born. Angel later remarried a English character named Simon Broadhurst, and left Summer Bay to start a new life with him.

Kim and Rik were in the car, along with Chloe, Alf and Martha. For a while it was suspected to be Troy (Chloe's violent ex-boyfriend) that had caused the crash, but then Jesse realised that he had been drink driving and had actually crashed into the car.

David was Fisher's nephew, and was played by Guy Pearce (who also appeared in Neighbours). He and Sophie fell in love, but Sophie's family did not approve, and so she went away for a while, only to return to the news that David had died in a car crash. Sophie then discovered that she was pregnant with David's baby, who she named Tamara.

She later had a child with Blake Dean (who, coincidentally, was the brother of Karen Dean, the person who caused the car crash in which David died!).

Pippa and Tom had Christopher against the odds, as they were told they were unable to have children. Christopher was friends with Duncan, Alf and Ailsa's son, but left Summer Bay with Pippa when she married Ian Routledge. Sally, Carly and Bobby were all foster children of Pippa and Tom.
