Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many contestants were introduced in this season?

Answer: Sixteen

This season brought sixteen 8-13 year olds into the MasterChef kitchen to compete for the trophy and the $100,000 prize. The season started immediately-- no need for auditions-- as the judges brought season 1 winner Alexander in to kick things off. The show started the season off with a Mystery Box curated entirely by Alexander, one that he gave thirteen dish examples for to start off the new wave of child chefs. Natalie was deemed the winner of this first challenge with her seared pork chop. She received immunity and a typical reward, choosing the food of the first Elimination Test.
2. The first Elimination Test, at the end of the first day in the MasterChef Kitchen, removed how many competitors (a record for an Elimination Test)?

Answer: Four

Although Natalie, Mitchell, and Oona were brought forward for their stellar Mystery Box dishes, Natalie was given the advantage for hers, and as such she was able to choose the food everyone else would be cooking for their next meal. The theme was 'birds', and she was able to choose between chickens, ducks, and turkeys.

She chose chicken, and the other fifteen kids had to innovate for the judges with any part of the bird. While three kids won the challenge, four were considered the bottom. Instead of removing one or two kids from the competition, the judges eliminated Berry, Coco, Isabella, and Nasir, a record for amount of eliminations in a single non-audition episode.
3. In a unique Individual Challenge, three contestants had to go head-to-head-to-head making which of these?

Answer: Pancakes

For having the top dishes in the previous Elimination Challenge, Natalie, Mitchell, and Oona were pushed into an Individual Challenge in which they needed to cook pancakes for six minutes and stack them on a plate. If they could make enough proper pancakes to have the most on their plate, then they would win the challenge and get an advantage in the next round. Each of the kids competing were also paired up with a judge, and the judges who didn't pair up with the winning contestant would have maple syrup dunked on their heads. Sean's pile was the highest, sparing Joe from a sticky situation and winning him immunity for the round.
4. In episode 3, the contestants had to make a dozen cupcakes in teams of two. They had to do so under what circumstance?

Answer: Tied together

To start the third episode of the competition, the top ten contestants were tasked with matching up (by random draw of cupcakes) and taking seventy-five minutes to work together to cook a dozen cupcakes. They could choose as many cupcake flavours as they wanted, but they had to be bound by legs and hips, effectively making this a three-legged challenge. Logan and Sean were given the win, making two different cupcakes with technical finesse.

They won the option to share in choosing the next dish based on Gordon's childhood favourite meals.

The boys chose shepherd's pie, a dish they wouldn't need to make (receiving immunity), and one that Gordon's mother would be judging.
5. To start episode 4, the amount of which of these determined a set amount of ingredients to be used by each contestant in their proceeding challenge?

Answer: Sunny-side-up eggs

To start episode 4, the remaining eight chefs were asked to make as many sunny-side-up eggs as they could in an allotted amount of time with the aim to make as many as possible. The advantage gleaned from this wasn't just held by the winner though, since the amount of correctly-made eggs would determine how many ingredients they could use to make a signature dish in the upcoming Elimination Challenge.

This meant that Sean, who had the most, received ten ingredients of his choosing while Abby, who had the least with two eggs, only had two ingredients to make her dish (she subsequently used salmon and asparagus made five ways).
6. For their Field Challenge, the top six contestants had to work in a pop-up restaurant where?

Answer: Malibu

For having the best signature dishes in the previous round, Samuel and Abby became team leaders for the season's sole Field Challenge in which the children were driven to a winery in Malibu to serve diners at an outdoor pop-up restaurant. The six children, working in teams of three, had to craft two appetizers and two entrees, all quite technical, for VIP diners and critics while Gordon expedited. Abby, the youngest in the competition (at 8 years old) led her team to victory and propelled them to the semifinals while Samuel was spared for his leadership from the losing team.

It sent Oona and Sean home.
7. How many Mystery Box Challenges were featured in this season?

Answer: Four

The season started with a Mystery Box containing a random assortment of ingredients curated by Alexander. In episode 3, the cupcake challenge was technically a Mystery Box, but the contents were the tethers used to tie the contestants together. In episode 4, the sunny-side-up challenge happened to be in a Mystery Box. The final Mystery Box Challenge of the season was during the semifinals.
All of this said, only one Mystery box season actually contained the typical assortment of mystery items (the first) as seen in a general "MasterChef" season.
8. The final four contestants were required to filet which of these during their semifinal round?

Answer: Salmon

To start their semifinal round, the final four were given full-size salmon and with nothing more than a filet knife and a cutting board, they needed to make as many filets as possible with the person making the best ones (and the most of 'em) getting an advantage for their next challenge. Gordon provided a single quick example for the children participating and they were put to work with little else. Adaiah ended up winning the challenge and the advantage with her precision.
9. The semifinal Elimination Challenge saw the contestants working with fridges containing different amounts of ingredients. Which was not a quantity that any contestant worked with?

Answer: 20

Adaiah had the advantage going into this challenge since she filleted the best salmon, and because of this she had the opportunity to decide how many ingredients she and her competitors would be cooking with based on provided fridges containing a multitude of fresh items.

The key was that all cooks would need to use salmon to make the dish. Adaiah gave herself the fridge with 50 ingredients; Abby received 100; Samuel received 25 ingredients; Logan received only 5. Ultimately, more ingredients proved to be the worse idea as those with more made technical errors that sent the others to the finale instead.
10. Which contestant was the winner of "MasterChef Junior" season 2?

Answer: Logan

This season's final round saw a double-male head-to-head in the MasterChef Kitchen during which Logan and Samuel faced off to make the better three-course meal for the judges. Although other seasons have seen chefs cook each dish individually, this season forced the boys to cook all three at once, balancing their time between appetizers, entrees, and dessert.

When the dishes were brought before the judges, Logan was the ultimate winner, taking home the trophy and a $100,000 prize for becoming this season's Junior MasterChef.
