Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Robb Stark sends him to King's Landing to deliver his peace terms to Queen Regent Cersei Lannister

Answer: Alton Lannister

Alton Lannister debuts in the first episode of season 2. He is a cousin of Jaime Lannister. Robb Stark sends him to King's Landing and, upon arriving there, he delivers Robb's peace terms. However, Cersei Lannister does not accept them. Alton goes back to the place Robb's army is stationed, in order to inform the King in the North about Cersei's response. Because he cannot be accommodated in a pen, Robb orders him to be placed in the same cell with Jaime.

There, Alton tells his cousin that he once squired for him and that it was the best day of his life. Jaime tells Alton that he has an escape plan and Alton needs to do only one thing to help him: die. Thus, Jaime strikes Alton with his shackles.

When the jailer, Torrhen Karstark, bursts into the cell to see what is happening, Jaime strangles him with his chains.

He then manages to get out of both of his chains and the cell, but is recaptured later.
2. Ser Davos Seaworth recruits him and his 30 ships for Stannis Baratheon's cause

Answer: Salladhor Saan

We first see Salladhor in the second episode of season 2. Salladhor is a sellsail pirate from the Free City of Lys. He is an old friend of Davos Seaworth, the Onion Knight in service of King Stannis Baratheon. Davos attempts to convince Salladhor to fight for Stannis and Salladhor remarks that it is strange for a former smuggler to vouch for the honor of a King. Davos promises him that, if they succeed, Salladhor will become very rich, an offer than entices the pirate. Later, Davos tells Stannis that Salladhor is on their side.
3. Leads the Lannister force sent to capture the late King Robert's illegitimate son, Gendry, and destroys the Night's Watch band led by Yoren

Answer: Amory Lorch

Amory Lorch is an illiterate landed knight in the service of House Lannister. After the Night's Watch man Yoren chases off a posse of Gold Cloaks looking for Gendry, they turn to Lorch for help. Yoren once more refuses to surrender Gendry and a battle ensues, where the outnumbered Night's Watch detachment is defeated and most, including Yoren, are killed. Subsequently, Lorch rounds up the survivors, intending to find Gendry, but Arya Stark (disguised as a boy) tricks him into believing that the dead Lommy Greenhands was Gendry.

Then, Lorch marches his prisoners to Harrenhal, which is temporarily held by another Lannister vassal, Gregor Clegane. Later, Tywin Lannister chastises Lorch for a blunder he made, due to his inability to read and bluntly tells him that his cupbearer (again, the disguised Arya Stark) can read better than Lorch.

At some point afterwards, in a moment Tywin is distracted, Arya seizes a letter about the Lannister troop movements, but Lorch notices it and promptly goes on to inform Tywin.

However, before he reaches his destination, Arya finds the assassin Jaqen H'ghar and names Lorch as the second life he owes her. Jaqen kills Lorch with a poison dart, at the moment he burst into Tywin's chambers, making the old lion believe it was an assassination attempt on himself.
4. Invokes the ancient custom of sumai so that Daenerys Targaryen could be admitted in Qarth

Answer: Xaro Xhoan Daxos

Xaro Xhoan Daxos is one of the Thirteen, the ruling body of Qarth. When Daenerys Targaryen is given an audition with the Thirteen outside the gates of Qarth, they want to see her dragons, having heared much about them. Daenerys refuses and threatens them to destroy their city wher her dragons are grown. Xaro steps forward and invokes sumai, so that the Mother of Dragons can be admitted in Qarth. Later, Xaro tells Daenerys that he will help her conquer the Seven Kingdoms, if she agrees to marry him.

However, Jorah Mormont persuades her not to accept his offer. She then goes to other members of the Thirteen to ask for help, but they refuse. Upon returning from a meeting with one of them, she discovers that her dragons have been stolen. Xaro calls a meeting of the Thirteen, supposedly to investigate the theft. Subsequently, Xaro and the warlock Pyat Pree dispatch the oter members of the Thirteen, with Xaro being installed as King of Qarth.

They tell Daenerys that her dragons are in the House of the Undying. Unfortunately for them, Daenerys recovers her dragons and escapes the House of the Undying, killing Pree in the process.

She then goes on to ransack Xaro's house, locking him in his treasure vault to suffocate or starve.
5. Offers Arya Stark to kill three people she desires dead

Answer: Jaqen H'ghar

Jaqen is first glimpsed in season 1, as one of the criminals Yoren took from the dungeons under the Red Keep as recruits for the Night's Watch. Yoren keeps Jaqen and two other men, Biter and Rorge, in a barred cell at the back of a wagon. When the Night's Watch detachment is raided by Lannister men under Amory Lorch, Jaqen calls to the disguised Arya Stark for help.

She agrees to help him and his companions, giving him an axe so that he can break the lock of his cell. The two of them meet later at Harrenhal, with Arya serving Tywin Lannister as a cupbearer and with Jaqen wearing the uniform of a Lannister man-at-arms. Jaqen informs Arya that because she saved his life and the lives of his two companions, he will kill three people Arya wants dead. Arya names first the Tickler, a questioner in the service of Gregor Clegane.

She then names Amory Lorch, who had seen her carrying a letter she had seized at a time Tywin was distracted and was going to inform him about that. She obviously planned giving Tywin's name as the third, but her plan went awry when Tywin left Harrenhal to face Robb Stark's army while Jaqen was on patrol. Tywin leaves Gregor Clegane as commander of Harrenhal and orders Arya to serve Clegane as a cupbearer, the same service she had given Tywin. Arya then finds Jaqen and gives him his own name.

In order to be un-named, Jaqen has to help Arya and her friends escape Harrenhal, which he does. After they have left the castle, Jaqen tells Arya that she could go with him to Braavos and become a Faceless Man, but Arya insists that she must find what members of her family are alive. Jaqen then turns around and, when he looks back at Arya, he has a new face. He bids her a farewell and leaves.
6. Refuses to fund Daenerys Targaryen's efforts to seize the Iron Throne

Answer: The Spice King

The Spice King is one of the Thirteen, the ruling council of Qarth. He is present when Daenerys Targaryen asks to be received in the city. She begins by telling who she is, but the Spice King responds that he is aware of that. He also tells her that he is a simple merchant, a trader of spices and his name is very difficult to pronounce.

He also says that he believes the tales about the dragons, but there others who are more skeptical. He clearly does not want Daenerys to be received in Qarth, claiming that it did not become the greatest city in the world by allowing Dothraki savages through the gates.

Despite the fact that the vast majority of the Thirteen agrees with him, Xaro Xhoan Daxos steps forward and invokes the ancient custom of sumai in order for the Mother of Dragons to be received. Later, after refusing Xaro's offer of a marriage, Daenerys goes to the Spice King to ask him for help in her endeavor to conquer the Seven Kingdoms.

The Spice King makes her wait very much, blaming his delay to nightmares.

When she asks for his ships, the Spice King tells her that he needs them to trade spices. He ultimately refuses Daenerys' plea and tells her she might succeed, but not with his ships. Daenerys is granted auditions with other members of the Thirteen, but they also say "no" to her. Upon returning to Xaro's home after one of those auditions, she finds out that her dragons are stolen. Xaro calls a meeting of the Thirteen in his house, seemingly to investigate the theft. In fact, it was him who stole the dragons and handed them over to the warlock Pyat Pree, another of the Thirteen. During the conference, the Spice King and all other members of the Thirteen, save for Xaro and Pyat Pree, are killed by the warlock's duplicates.
7. Demands the execution of Jaime Lannister, because two of his sons died at Jaime's hands

Answer: Rickard Karstark

Rickard Karstark is the Lord of Karhold, head of House Karstark and a bannerman of the Starks of Winterfell. Lord Rickard is first seen in the last episode of season 1, as one of Robb Stark's vassals who proclaim him as "King in the North". In season 2, Rickard Karstark is present when the envoy Alton Lannister informs Robb of Cersei Lannister's refusal to grant the North its independence. Later, his son, Torrhen, is killed by Jaime Lannister in an abortive escape attempt. Lord Rickard is furious, Torrhen being the second son of his who died at Jaime's hands (another of his sons, Harrion, had been killed by Jaime in the Battle of the Whispering Wood) and demands the execution of Jaime, when the Kingslayer is recaptured.

In order to prevent that, fearing that Jaime's death would mean death for her daughter, Sansa, who was held captive in King's Landing, Catelyn Stark frees the Kingslayer from his cell. Upon learning it, Lord Rickard calls her a traitor. To placate him, Robb Stark has to order that his mother be kept under constant guard.
8. Refuses Theon Greyjoy's plea for more men and urges him to abandon Winterfell

Answer: Yara Greyjoy

Yara Greyjoy is the daughter of Balon Greyjoy and sister of Theon Greyjoy. We first see her in the second episode of season 2, when Theon returns to his homeland, Pyke, being sent by Robb Stark to broker an alliance between the North and the Iron Islands. Yara poses as a commoner and offers Theon a ride to Pyke.

Theon, not knowing her identity, because he had many years to see her and because she gave him a false name, attempts to seduce her. When Theon enters Pyke and attempts to convince his father to side with Robb, Yara enters and her identity is revealed, leaving Theon stunned.

While Theon is given only one ship, with an insubordinate crew, Yara is given thirty and with a loyal crew. She is successful in seizing Deepwood Motte, a castle in the North, traditionally ruled by House Glover. Yet Theon, furious by the way his father and sister treated him, decides to seize Winterfell, a thing he accomplishes, but he fears he cannot hold the castle against the force Robb Stark will send against him. Yara goes to Winterfell and urges Theon to return with her to Deepwood Motte, but he is proud of his achievement and announces his decision to hold the castle.

She then leaves him and returns to Deepwood Motte.
9. Despite the destruction of a large part of his fleet, he addresses his troops saying "Come with me and take this city!"

Answer: Stannis Baratheon

Stannis Baratheon is Robert Baratheon's younger brother and Renly Baratheon's older brother. Stannis was mentioned in season 1, chiefly by Eddard Stark, who remarked that Stannis is a seasoned commander, having destroyed the Greyjoy fleet. After Robert dies, and since he left no trueborn children, Stannis is the rightful heir to the throne.

In season 2, Stannis decides to claim his birthright. He distributes a letter across the Seven Kingdoms, stating that he is the rightful king. However, most of Stannis' bannermen have declared for his younger brother, Renly. Stannis goes to parley with him, offering him his old seat in the small council and even to name him his heir, unless his wife gives him a son. Renly refuses Stannis' offer and the red priestess Melisandre tells Renly that the night is dark and full of terror. That night, Renly is assassinated in his tent. Most of his bannermen declare for Stannis, except for House Tyrell. Stannis heeds the advice of Ser Davos Seaworth, a smuggler-turned-knight to attack King's Landing without taking Melisandre with him.

He names Davos his Hand of the King. In the Battle of the Blackwater, Stannis attempts an amphibious assault on King's Landing. However, most of his fleet is destroyed by wildfire, a scheme devised by Tyrion Lannister. Davos' ship is one of the ships destroyed by the wildfire. Stannis, however, does not flinch and orders his men to prepare for landing. He personally leads the attack, with his men being pelted with flaming arrows shot by the defenders. Stannis is the first man to climb to the battlements and takes down many enemy soldiers. He also sends for a battering ram to break the Mud Gate down. Unfortunately for him, the ram is destroyed by a surprise attack initiated by Tyrion Lannister and his Vale mountain clansmen. Stannis refuses to back down and his men start having the upper hand. At that moment, however, Lannister and Tyrell reinforcements arrive and the Baratheon soldiers lose heart. Stannis shouts at them to stand and fight, but his guards drag him out of the battle to safety.
10. He suggests that King Joffrey wed his sister, Margaery, to firmly broker the alliance of their houses

Answer: Loras Tyrell

We first saw Loras Tyrell in season 1. He is known as The Knight of Flowers and is one of the finest knights in the realm. He is very devoted to Renly Baratheon, youngest brother of King Robert. In season 2, we first see Loras in a tourney Renly organizes after crowning himself King (despite the fact that, by all laws of inheritance, since Robert has left no trueborn children, with Cersei Lannister's children being bastards born of incest between her and Jaime Lannister, it is Renly's older brother, Stannis, who is the rightful king).

In the tourney, Loras defeats most of his opponents, but is defeated in the finals by Brienne of Tarth. When Brienne asks to join Renly's Kingsguard, Loras is obviously unhappy. After Renly's assassination, the Tyrells are persuaded by Petyr Baelish to join the Lannisters against Stannis Baratheon.

At the climactic Battle of the Blackwater, Loras leads the Tyrell forces, wearing the deceased Renly's armor. At the last episode of season 2, Loras suggests that Joffrey marries his sister, Margaery. Joffrey is assured by his councillors that his betrothal to Sansa Stark does not obstruct him from doing so, since Sansa is a traitor's spawn, according to them.
