Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While talking with Mr. O'Hara at the jail, Julie says that she resigned from the DA's office. What reason did she give for resigning?

Answer: It was a matter of principle.

Ben replied that she should have discussed it with him first. Julie then said that had she asked, Ben wouldn't have let her - so she did so without asking.
2. When questioning Harry Craven, we find out what hotel the jurors had been sequestered at. What was the name of the hotel?

Answer: Alexander

Harry said that Ben slipped him a note that said Ben would call a pay phone at the hotel and not to answer that phone if anyone was around. That's why there was no record of Harry receiving a call in his room and why no one saw him take the call.
3. When Harry was on the stand talking about being bribed, Ben had an outburst. What did Ben say outside the courthouse to Julie as a way of apologising?

Answer: "If I was my lawyer I would fire me."

Julie replied "I would too. But I can't fire you, you're the only client I have."
4. After his outburst, Julie thought that maybe Ben should represent himself. Wht reasons did she give for this idea?

Answer: He's an honest man and passionate about his defense.

But Ben didn't think it was a good idea and had Julie continue as his lawyer.
5. Julie says in court that the defense in Matlock's case always contended that who bribed the juror also murdered the man. Who did Julie and Ben think bribed the juror?

Answer: Linford

Linford, also known as the Vice President of the union, bribed the juror because he didn't like Ben being O'Hara's lawyer. Ben being a lawyer that Linford and his union money and influence couldn't control. That's why Linford was trying to convince O'Hara to dump Matlock and go with another lawyer.
6. Who asks the judge for the trial to be moved over to the union offices: Julie or Ben?

Answer: Julie

Julie had asked ben earlier if he wanted to defend himself and he declined. So after their visit to the union offices, Julie asked that the jury, judge, and Mr. O'Hara move the proceedings there.
7. After everyone had assmbled at the union offices, what did Julie ask Ben?

Answer: "Will you behave yourself?"

Julie had almost started the questioning to prove who was actually the killer, but then stopped and asked the judge if she could confer with her client. Just before Ben gets up to finish the questioning, Julie says "Remember, you're not twelve years old" as a way to remind him to behave and not have another outburst.
8. Where did Lanford get the money for the bribe?

Answer: Interest-bearing account

He would take the money and put it into an interest-bearing account. Although he could only put the money in his account for one day before it would be noticed, because of the huge sums that he had possession of it didn't take too much time to be making a lot from this scheme.
9. What was the piece of evidence that proved O'Hara didn't commit the murder?

Answer: the chair

The same chair that Julie said Ben would be "piercing in his examination" if it were on the witness stand. It turned out that Lanford killed the man in his office, put the body in his desk chair and switched desk chairs with O'Hara, making it look like the man was killed in O'Hara's chair.

But when O'Hara went to sit in the chair, it was too low for his desk. Lanford was a bit taller than O'Hara and forgot to change the setting on the chair after the murder.
10. How did Julie get her job back?

Answer: Ben talked to the DA's office.

Ben was glad that he wasn't totally without influence.
