Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is Butters' real name?

Answer: Leopold Stotch

This can be seen on the missing child billboard in the episode "Casa Bonita" and heard in the episode "You Got F'd In The A". Butters' parents are Stephen and Linda. Stephen is always very hard on Butters and frequently grounds him for trivial things. Linda is sometimes unstable but loves her son and family dearly (except for in "Butters' Very Own Episode", where she tries to kill Butters).
2. How much did Stephen, Butters' father, try to sell Butters to Paris Hilton for?

Answer: $250,000,000

This comes from the episode "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset" where all the girls begin to emulate Paris Hilton. When Paris comes to town to promote the opening of her new store, she sees Butters (who she names Mr. Biggles) and offers to buy him from his parents, because her dog just killed itself, and she sought a new pet.

The price was initially $200,000,000, but was moved up to $250,000,000 at Stephen's insistence. Butters escapes her clutches though, and Paris takes the money back from Butters' parents, who then ground him.
3. Which of the following is NOT true about Butters?

Answer: He is the national tap-dancing champion.

In the episode, "You Got F'd in the A", we find out that Butters made it to the national tap-dancing finals, but never won because of the accident where he ended up being responsible for the deaths of eight people. ("Well it was nine, actually. One of the women was pregnant...and eleven if you count the two family members that killed themselves afterward", according to Stan Marsh.)

He is the only student that comes to mind who calls Cartman "Eric". Despite the fact that Cartman continuously pranks and makes fun of him, Butters usually acts friendly to Cartman (probably due to his naïveté).

In the episode "Marjorine", Butters fakes his death and then goes (in drag) to the girls' sleepover in order to steal the 'future-telling device'. Believing him to be dead, his father tries to resurrect him using an old Indian burial ground. The episode ends with Butters' parents being terrified of him because they believe him to be possessed by a demon spirit.

His first major role was Season Three, Episode Eight, "Two Guys Naked In A Hot Tub". He, Pip, and Dougie (a first grader) try to encourage Stan to play Charlie's Angels with them, and in the end the four of them have to convince the government and the media that their parents are not part of a cult planning to commit mass suicide during the meteor shower.
4. When Kyle, Stan, and Cartman tell him he's lame, Butters becomes outraged and forges a new identity for himself, an alter ego. Who does he become?

Answer: Professor Chaos

Professor Chaos was created in Season 6, Episode 6, "Professor Chaos". After Butters is rejected by Stan, Kyle, and Cartman, he creates the alias of Professor Chaos. His full speech is quite funny (given that he's Butters), so I'll include it.

"[angrily] The world isn't fair. I do everything people ask me to. I stand in the lunch line for them, I buy tampons at the store for them, I go on Maury Povich with balls on my chin for them. And yet, nobody accepts me. I am an outcast. A shadow of a man who can find no companion... ship. No love from others. Fine! If I am to be an outcast, so be it! I'm through doin' what others tell me to do, and I am sick of this world and the stin-, and the stinky people in it! From now on I will dedicate my life to bringing chaos to the world that has rejected me! I will become the greatest supervillain the world has ever seen! Where I go, destruction will follow! [exults at his new destiny, raising arms and face towards heaven as lightning strikes]" (from southparkstuff.com)

Butters first 'evil' deed is to switch two orders at the local Bennigans restaurant. He seems surprised that it is not in the paper the next day but decides that the town is just trying to cover it up so as not to induce panic.

After Butters is caught by Dougie stealing Ms. Choksondik's erasers, Dougie decides he wants to be Butters' sidekick. Butters gives him the alias of General Disarray. The two continue with Butters' schemes to create mischief.

Their other 'crimes' included trying to flood the world with a garden hose and trying to destroy the ozone layer by spraying aerosol cans, both of which failed.
5. What instrument, if any, does Butters play?

Answer: Drums

He is seen playing the drums in "Christian Rock Hard", the episode where Cartman, Butters, and Token start a Christian rock band to sell a million records so that Cartman can win a bet with Kyle. Butters doesn't seem to realize that they were scamming the Christian community until the end of the episode, when Cartman starts swearing at Jesus. Butters has the last line of the episode, which is an expletive directed at Cartman, and seeing as how Butters never curses, it is very funny.
6. In the episode "AWESOM-O", what does Butters have that Cartman desperately wants back?

Answer: A video of Cartman dancing around dressed like Britney Spears.

At first Cartman dresses up as AWESOM-O just to prank Butters, but when he discovers that Butters has a video of him dancing around like Britney Spears with Justin Timberlake, he tries to trick Butters into telling him where it is. Somehow, Butters, keeps the secret, and at the end of the episode, when Butters finds out that AWESOM-O is Cartman, he shows the video to the whole school.
7. When Cartman wants to go to Casa Bonita, he tricks Butters into spending almost a week in what?

Answer: a bomb shelter

In the episode "Casa Bonita", Kyle decides to invite Butters to Casa Bonita instead of Cartman. Upon hearing this, Cartman gets Kyle to say that he'll take him if Butters can't go. He then tricks Butters into spending days in a bomb shelter by telling him of an impending meteor strike.

The town starts to look for him, and when they get close to finding him, Cartman moves him to the gas station and hides him in a refrigerator, but a garbage truck comes and takes him away to the dump where Butters tries to make a new civilization.

When he is found by the dump worker, Butters asks her if she wants to help him repopulate. She tells him the truth, and Cartman is arrested after spending only 60 seconds in Casa Bonita.
8. Occasionally, Butters is not portrayed as naïve but in fact the opposite - mature. In the episode "Raisins", his insight helps which person get over his extreme sadness?

Answer: Stan Marsh

Stan is upset that Wendy dumped him, so he turns goth and hangs out with all the goth kids. After Butters finds out that the Raisins girl, Lexus, was not his boyfriend and was just using him for money, he also becomes sad but explains to Stan:

"Well yeah, and I'm sad, but at the same time I'm really happy that somethin' could make me feel that sad. It's like, it makes me feel alive, you know? It makes me feel human. And the only way I could feel this sad now is if I felt somethin' really good before. So I have to take the bad with the good, so I guess what I'm feelin' is like a, beautiful sadness. I guess that sounds stupid..." (from southparkstuff.com)

This is one of Butters' few moments of intelligence that we see, and as a result, Stan gets over his break-up with Wendy.
9. In the episode "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers", of which 'Lord of the Rings' character is Butters a parody?

Answer: Gollum/Smeagol

While the boys (Kyle, Stan, Cartman, and Kenny) are playing make-believe, 'Lord of the Rings' style, they accidentally give Butters a very revealing pornographic video. When they take it away from him, he adopts the persona of Smeagol, referring to the video as his "preciousss".

He follows them part of the way to the video store and ends up leading them to it. When they are about to return the video, Butters grabs it and they end up putting him into the QuickDrop slot as well, parodying the end of the 'Return of the King'.
10. What happens to Butters when he plays ninja with the boys?

Answer: He gets a ninja star in the eye.

In the episode "Good Times With Weapons", when Butters (as Professor Chaos) fights the boys, he gets the upper hand (in their imaginations) and Kenny tries to turn the tables by throwing a ninja star (shuriken) at him. The problem is that the ninja star is very real, and hits Butters in the eye with very real consequences. The boys try to get Butters to a hospital (ignoring Cartman's suggestion that they should just kill him) without being caught and grounded. After battling Jimmy, Craig, Token, and Clyde, and trying to sneak through a fair (not so subtly), Butters finally gets some medical attention. Though Butters thinks he will be grounded, we never see it happen.
