Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Riker sternly orders a crewmember to remove an earring.

Answer: "Ensign Ro"

Ro Laren is a Bajoran Starfleet officer, who once disobeyed orders and was convicted for the deaths of eight other officers as a result of that disobedience. She is brought on the Enterprise to help in a crisis involving her people. However Ro is still seen as a traitor by other Starfleet officers, and receives harsh treatment from everyone. Which is too bad, because she has a very important secret to reveal, and no one to reveal it to.
2. Data watches Picard attempting to sleep.

Answer: "Unification, Pt. I"

Picard and Data are on a secret mission to Romulus, aboard a cloaked Klingon ship. With Klingon ships not built for luxury of any kind, they are given a single room together - with nothing more than a single stark platform to sleep on. Fortunately, Data does not need to sleep, but Picard can't bring himself to do so either while the Android is just standing there, motionless, staring blankly in his general direction. Would you?
3. Picard uses a sextant to try and figure out the cause of a drought.

Answer: "The Inner Light"

Out of nowhere, a probe zaps Picard with some sort of energy beam, and he suddenly finds himself in a completely different world - or rather, a completely different life - to the one he was used to. This award-winning episode takes place almost entirely off the Enterprise, as we follow Picard living out whole decades in this new existence, and slowly coming to terms with it.
4. Data and Worf are on a shuttlecraft, discussing how to best conduct a memorial service. There are two other people clandestinely listening in on this conversation.

Answer: "The Next Phase"

The memorial service in question is for Geordi and Ro Laren, who were lost in a freak teleporter accident. The two people listening in on the conversation are... Geordi and Ro Laren, who were somehow transported into a different phase of reality, unseen by - and unable to interact with - the rest of the crew. Are they going to attend their own funeral?
5. Picard is in the conference room, having a conversation with the daughter of one of his fallen officers.

Answer: "Redemption, Pt. II"

The woman is Sela, daughter of Tasha Yar, who was sent back in time with the Enterprise C (in a previous episode) to help restore a broken timeline. Though the ship was destroyed, Yar survived and was taken prisoner by the Romulans, eventually having a daughter with a Romulan officer. That daughter, unfortunately, does not share her mother's love of the Federation.
6. Worf, sitting in the Captain's chair, is giving out orders. Picard, at the helm, reluctantly obeys.

Answer: "Conundrum"

The Enterprise is subjected to some strange radiation that leaves our crew with no idea who they are. With no mutual recognition, no one is sure who is in command and what each person's duties are. Worf takes a forceful approach and assumes de-facto command, while Picard mans the helm. The rolls are reversed when the crew manage to access the crew manifest and learn who they really are: Picard is the Captain, Worf is the Tactical Officer, and MacDuff is the First Officer.

Wait... who?!
7. A young woman in Ten-Forward begins to flirt with a group of rowdy alien workmen.

Answer: "The Perfect Mate"

The young woman is an Empathic Metamorph - a creature designed to exhude pheromones to attract men to her, and to immediately tailor her personality to any man she is with. She is destined to be given as a wife to some alien dignitary in order to put a stop to a long and bloody war.

Unfortunately, she is awakened too early for the wedding, and begins assuming various personalities to entice various males around the Enterprise.
8. Picard fails to start a fire using crude tools.

Answer: "Darmok"

Upon rendezvous with an alien species whose language is unintelligible, Picard is beamed down to a planet together with the alien captain, and the Enterprise cannot beam him back. Picard believes that the other captain intends to duel him to the death, and repeatedly refuses to fight. That night, when Picard fails to light himself a fire to sleep next to, the alien captain throws him a burning branch to help him out. If only Picard could figure out what's really going on...
9. Dr. Crusher knocks over a glass, despite her deliberate efforts not to do so.

Answer: "Cause and Effect"

The Enterprise is caught in a time loop that results in its destruction over and over again. Fortunately, through some bizarre technobabble (as usual), it seems that the crew is slowly becoming aware that something is amiss, realizing that they already know certain things that haven't happened yet. Crusher begins to anticipate events and try to alter them - but nothing she does can stop her from breaking that one glass every single time.
10. Riker places Data's head on a platform in Engineering, and hooks him directly into the ship's computer.

Answer: "Disaster"

This episode deals with multiple events occuring in different parts of the Enterprise after it is hit by the eponymous disaster, cutting off parts of the crew from one another. Riker and Data, who were in Ten-Forward when the disaster hit, attempt to make their way to Engineering, by crawling through the Jefferies Tubes. An obstacle in their path, however, can only be overcome by special materials found inside Data - so he volunteers to throw his body into the obstacle while his head remains intact and functional!
11. Worf sings a Klingon opera, accompanied by a four-armed woman playing some sort of synthesizer.

Answer: "Unification, Pt. II"

The away team is staking out a bar while attempting to track down a Ferengi trader who has apparently stolen a decommissioned Vulcan ship out of a Federation surplus depot. To get some information about this Ferengi, Riker flirts with the bar's four-armed musician and plays some Jazz with her on the synthesizer, and later Worf is seen singing an ear-shattering Klingon opera along with her before the Ferengi walks in.
12. Guinan mixes a very complicated drink in Ten-Forward, which she then uses as a metaphore in conversation with Picard.

Answer: "Time's Arrow, Pt. I"

Guinan urges Picard to go on an away mission which she knows will eventually end up taking him back to 19th Century Earth. She knows this because she was there when he arrived from the future - their first meeting ever. The drink, when prepared just right, is supposed to evaporate in the drinker's mouth, but Guinan deliberately causes it to fizzle prematurely to emphasize how their long friendship would be erased from history if he decides not to go.
13. Dr. Crusher is treating a patient inside the brig, behind a force field, with heavy security present.

Answer: "I Borg"

In this episode, the Enterprise discovers a survivor from a crashed Borg scout ship, and (despite the Captain's misgivings) brings it aboard. The survivor is revived and undergoes intensive study, eventually resulting in the discovery of a way to destroy all Borg through him. But as this Borg begins to show signs of individuality, Picard begins to have second thoughts.
14. Wesley receives a sweater from the father of one of his friends.

Answer: "The First Duty"

Sadly, the sweater is returned because that friend had died, performing a dangerous and illegal spaceflight maneuver with Wesley and several other cadets. The leader of this elite flying team attempts to cover up the incident, and tries to pressure the other cadets to lie as well. Wesley, however, is a protege of Captain Picard, and is very uneasy about lying - but is he uneasy enough to come clean?
15. Name the episode wherein Dr. Crusher and a colleague examine an actual Klingon spine inside a glass container.

Answer: Ethics

A heavy object falls on Worf, breaking his spine. Permanently paralyzed from the neck down, Worf decides that his life is over, and asks Riker to help him commit suicide. Fortunately, Riker balks at the very idea, and does everything he can to dissuade Worf from this rash decision.

The aforementioned spine is eventually removed entirely from Worf's body for possible treatment - which actually sounds even worse than suicide!
