Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first several episodes of the third season centered around Susan's developing relationship with Jack. Initially, Susan was very anxious to keep their office romance a secret from the rest of her co-workers, especially Vicki. In the episode "Don't Tell", Susan claimed she was dating Dr. Mort Gerken, to throw Vicki off the scent. Who was Dr. Gerken?

Answer: Susan's dentist

Due to Vicki's incessant prying, Susan wasn't able to maintain the charade for very long. Dr. Gerken was betrothed to another woman, and Vicki erroneously concluded that he was cheating on Susan; the confusion mounted when Dr. Gerken happily announced he'd be glad to leave his real fiancé and marry Susan instead.

As a result, Susan and Jack revealed their relationship to everyone, and Susan had to find a new dentist. Mort Gerken was played by Stephen Tobolowsky.
2. Shortly before Susan became involved with Jack, she was very upset to see him kissing another woman. Who did she see Jack kissing?

Answer: Maddy

Susan was demoralized to see Jack kissing Maddy in the Christmas episode "Yule Never Know". In the following episode, "A Kiss is Just Amiss", Susan confided in Vicki about her feelings and what she had seen (and naturally, Vicki immediately told everyone else at "The Gate"). Maddy offered Jack a physical relationship with no emotional commitment, but Jack declined. Susan finally admitted to Jack that she wanted to have a relationship with him, but he declined her advances as well.
3. After Susan became involved with Jack, they decided to live together. In the episode "The Apartment Hunt", Susan became frustrated with Jack, because he appeared to be developing cold feet about moving in together. In a moment of weakness, Susan shared a passionate kiss with another man during this episode. Who did Susan kiss?

Answer: Patrick

Patrick was Susan's real estate agent. He helped Susan and Jack locate several wonderful apartments - some of them quite spectacular - but Jack found fault with every one (once even claiming that the toilet handle was on the wrong side). Jack finally missed an appointment with Susan and Patrick to inspect one potential apartment.

His absence pushed Susan over the edge, and she briefly sought solace with Patrick. Patrick was portrayed by Kristoff St. John, a regular on the CBS soap opera "The Young and the Restless".
4. During the episode "The Wish List", Susan bemoaned the fact that she hadn't achieved any of the goals she set for herself during the sixth grade. One of those goals was to kiss a 1970s teen idol. Who did Susan want to kiss?

Answer: Leif Garrett

Susan actually got to meet Leif in this episode, and she admitted her teenage desire to kiss him. To her subsequent dismay, Leif became instantly infatuated with her.
5. Susan occasionally opened up her home, allowing friends to stay with her as temporary roommates. Which of the following characters both briefly lived in Susan's apartment at different times?

Answer: Todd and Vicki

Todd lived at Susan's apartment for several episodes, while his parents Nectarine and Attica were in town and staying at his place. Vicki was also Susan's roommate for several episodes, leading Mrs. Fong to incorrectly believe that they were lovers.
6. Todd once inadvertently unleashed a computer virus at "The Gate", deleting all of the files on the magazine's network. To recover from the disaster, Todd had to utilize the services of his ultra-nerd friend, Jerry. When the virus struck, how did it manifest itself?

Answer: As a dancing lipstick

Todd was playing a computer game featuring female models, and a "dancing lipstick" destroyed all of the files on the magazine's network. His old friend Jerry was the ultimate "Trekie" and "Star Wars" aficionado, and also an expert computer hacker. Jerry was able to recover the files lost during the virus attack, and he presented Jack with a hefty bill for his services. Kyle T.

Heffner portrayed Jerry.
7. Jerry appeared in several episodes, and he was totally enamored with Vicki. On one occasion, Vicki caught Jerry staring at her breasts, and she told Todd to "tell him to stop staring at my ____!"

Answer: Twin Pods

Jerry really was the ultimate nerd. He lived with his parents, his bedroom was literally a shrine to "Star Trek" and "Star Wars", and he once arrived at "The Gate" sporting full Darth Vader regalia.
8. Todd once spent far too much money on something, in the hopes of getting a date. What did Todd buy?

Answer: Tupperware

In the episode "One Man's Intervention is Another Man's Tupperware Party", Todd purchased so much Tupperware it was delivered in large boxes on a hand cart. Meanwhile, Maddy's co-workers arranged an intervention, due to her escalating alcohol problem.
9. In the episode "The Billboard", a sexy picture of Susan was depicted on a billboard advertising "The Gate". How did Susan appear on that billboard?

Answer: Fully clothed

Susan initially objected to having her picture taken, because she believed that she didn't photograph well. However, Oliver took an excellent shot, which Ian decided to use for the billboard. Susan didn't take any of her clothes off for the picture, but the billboard was still steamy by all accounts.

At first, Susan didn't like the extra attention, but she quickly became very self-centered due to her new notoriety; she ultimately crashed her car while trying to get Vicki to look at the billboard.
10. Shortly after she left Kip at the altar, all of Susan's utilities were shut off. When Susan tried to re-establish service with the various utility companies via phone, she was placed on hold. Which song did all of the utilities play while she was holding?

Answer: Tijuana Taxi

All four songs were big hits during the 1970s. Luis said that in Tijuana, "Tijuana Taxi" would just be known as "Taxi" (which was also the title of the late Harry Chapin's signature song). "Muskrat Love" was arguably one of the most popular songs ever recorded by The Captain and Tennille. "Ventura Highway" was one of many top hits recorded by the group America. And, of course, "We've Only Just Begun" was The Carpenter's signature song, and also the theme music for the Crocker Bank TV commercials of the same era.
