Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The very first major landmark ever on the race was this majestic natural wonder found between Zimbabwe and Zambia. At which location did teams find one of the first clue boxes and the first Fast Forward task?

Answer: Victoria Falls

In the first leg of the first "Amazing Race", teams flew from New York City to Johannesburg, South Africa where they boarded charter flights to Livingstone, Zambia. Here, teams found their first clue box situated on the Knife's Edge, a majestic vantage point for some of the world's largest waterfalls at Victoria Falls.

This would mark the first of many major sites to come in subsequent races. Here, Rob and Brennan (who would later win the race) became the first to claim a Fast Forward allowing them to skip all tasks and head to the Pit Stop (which, in this case, was Songwe Village). To claim this clue they had to find it at the Boiling Pot at the bottom of the falls along the Zambezi River. Teams first visited Iguacu Falls on the Brazil-Argentina border in the second season and the Nile River in Egypt in season 5.
2. In "The Amazing Race 16", which team ended up claiming the Fast Forward by climbing on the outside of the Singapore Flyer in Leg 9?

Answer: Dan and Jordan

In this particular leg of the race, teams completed a number of tasks around the city and nation of Singapore. Early on, teams received a Fast Forward clue, the only one of the entire race, and Dan and Jordan (the eventual winners of the race) decided to take on the challenge.

In this task, both members were strapped into harnesses as they ascended to the top of the Singapore Flyer. Once there they needed to make their way from one pod to the next by crossing over a narrow ladder. Once both members were on the other side they received the clue sending them to the next Pit Stop at the Marina Barrage.
3. In "The Amazing Race 3", teams raced from Morocco to Germany, then through Austria before returning to Neuschwanstein Castle for their Pit Stop in Leg 7. Which team was eliminated here?

Answer: Andre and Damon

In the end of a rather lengthy leg from Morocco to Germany, then by train to Innsbruck, Austria and back to Fussen, Germany, only five teams were left standing. After horrible flights from Marrakech to Munich, Andre and Damon ended up falling so far behind the other five teams that they were not required to complete any tasks in Germany and Austria.

Instead, they headed directly to this fairy tale landmark, the seventh Pit Stop. This was the first occasion in the race where anybody had traveled through Germany, a popular location in later seasons.
4. In the first leg of "The Amazing Race 15", teams raced to the Tokyo Tower in Japan to complete an eating task. What did teams need to devour in a Japanese game-show to receive a clue?

Answer: Wasabi bombs

Departing from Los Angeles in the first leg of the fifteenth "Amazing Race", eleven teams were told to make their way to the city of Tokyo, Japan to locate the Tokyo Tower TV studios. Here, unbeknown to them, they would need to join into a Japanese game show in front of a studio audience.

This task forced one member (almost like a Road Block) to eat a wasabi bomb when a spun wheel landed on their space. If team members could not stomach the spicy food within two minutes, they would need to try it again.

After this task, teams needed to take twenty of their audience members through the streets of Japan to Konno Hachimangu Shrine, the first Pit Stop of the race.
5. What type of task was completed by teams in the temple of Angkor Wat in "The Amazing Race 13"?

Answer: Road Block

In the fifth leg of "The Amazing Race 13", teams made a visit to Cambodia (the first time ever on the race). Here, teams completed a series of tasks in the Siem Reap area including a Road Block at the famous temple of Angkor Wat. Here, one member of each team was required to search the temple for a chamber in which they could hit their chest to hear an echo generated by the architectural style of the room. Nick, Tina, Dallas, Christy, Andrew, Terence, and Ty completed this task and found their next clue on the back of a stone tablet leading them to their fifth Pit Stop at Bayon. Cambodia (specifically Phnom Penh) would be visited next in "The Amazing Race 15".
6. In season 5, teams visited the city of Cairo, Egypt and started their day in Africa at Cairo Tower. Here, one team found the clue for the Fast Forward. Which team completed it?

Answer: Colin and Christie

"The Amazing Race 5" was the first race to reduce the amount of Fast Forwards making them much more difficult to obtain throughout the competition. The first to appear was in Leg 5 in which Colin and Christie arrived in Cairo much earlier than everyone else and completed the Fast Forward task, delivering a sarcophagus to the Pharonic Village.

As a result, they were able to check in at the Pit Stop near the Sphinx (on the Giza Plateau) in first place, many hours before the remaining teams. The other Fast Forward to appear in this race was a hair-shaving ritual in India in Leg 9 (which no one took).
7. In "The Amazing Race 2", teams traveled to a particular bridge and climbed to the top in Leg 9. What major city was this found in?

Answer: Sydney

In Leg 8, teams made the first Australian stop in race history completing a task at the Sydney Opera House. The first task of Leg 9 took teams to the offices of BridgeClimb Sydney where they needed to sign up to climb to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and brave the heights.

Here, Chris and Alex also opted to take one of the race's final Fast Forward clues. Many later seasons of the race returned to Australia to complete tasks. In particular, "The Amazing Race 18" started the competition by heading to Sydney, Australia and "The Amazing Race Asia" went to Sydney in its first season (in Leg 4).
8. In the penultimate leg of "The Amazing Race 14", Kisha and Jen found themselves eliminated under unfortunate circumstances in this country where the Pit Stop happened to be outside an Olympic Stadium. Which country were they in?

Answer: China

In the tenth leg of "The Amazing Race 14", teams faced off against two sets of tasks (it being a double-length leg) as they headed through the city of Beijing, China. Towards the end of the leg, teams completed a rather unappetizing Road Block task in which they ate some unconventional Chinese food and they headed off to secure their spots in the final leg by checking into the Pit Stop at Niao Chao, also known as the Bird's Nest.

While Kisha and Jen were U-Turned by Margie and Luke, they caught up in the very end to Jaime and Cara who got lost in the city.

Unfortunately, they fell behind again when Jen needed to take a quick bathroom break just before the Pit Stop. It cost them the race.
9. In which season of the race did teams check into their first Pit Stop in Iceland's Blue Lagoon?

Answer: "The Amazing Race 6"

In season 6, teams headed from Chicago to the city of Reykjavik, Iceland in the very first leg of the race. This would be the race's first time visiting this northern island nation. As teams progressed through their first set of tasks, they inevitably made their way to the luxurious Blue Lagoon, a series of geothermal spas in Grindavík, Iceland.

Here, Hayden and Aaron became the first team to step on the mat in first place (in this season) while Avi and Joe were eliminated from the race.
10. In "The Amazing Race 9", Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater acted as which of these key locations?

Answer: Both of these

In the ninth season of the show (returning to form after the 'Family Edition') eleven teams took to the altitudes of Colorado and began a race around the world from the town of Morrison and raced all the way back (stopping in ten countries along the way).

Although many different seasons of the race have started and ended in the same city, this was the first time that the race did both at the same location. In the end, it was BJ and Tyler who crossed the Finish Line to win a million dollars traveling nearly sixty thousand miles to do so.
