Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. By the end of season 9 of "The Walking Dead," Daryl and Carol were the only two characters from season 1 to still be on the show.

Answer: True

In addition to the many deaths of season one's characters, Morgan left the group, and Rick disappeared. Thus, by the end of season 9, Daryl and Carol were the only two surviving characters from the first season. Both lived in the original survivors camp located in a quarry just outside of Atlanta.
2. When Daryl brings Carol a Cherokee rose to comfort her while she worries about her missing daughter, how does he present it?

Answer: In a beer bottle

Daryl tells Carol the story of Cherokee mothers weeping along the Trail of Tears as they lost their children to exposure, disease, and starvation. "So the elders," he tells her, "they said a prayer; asked for a sign to uplift the mothers' spirits, give them strength and hope.

The next day this rose started to grow where the mothers' tears fell...I believe this one bloomed for your little girl."
3. What is Carol's nickname for Daryl?

Answer: Pookie

Carol first calls Daryl "Pookie" at the prison camp. A few seasons later, when she tells him she's marrying Ezekiel, and he replies that he's happy for her, she says, "Glad I have Pookie's approval."
4. What does Daryl tell Carol to do when they discover Henry's head on a pike?

Answer: Look at me

Daryl tries to make Carol look at him so she won't have to look at her decapitated son. Later, when she says she thinks of Henry every time she sees Lydia, Daryl asks, "What do you see when you look at me?"
5. The first time Daryl and Carol interact with one another on screen, what does Daryl hand Carol?

Answer: A pick axe

Daryl is preparing to drive an axe into Ed's corpse when Carol interrupts him and asks to do it herself. He hands her the axe without a word and quietly watches her hack into the corpse. Norman Reedus, the actor who plays Daryl Dixon, said that when he shared this first scene with Melissa McBride, he "liked her right off the bat." He went on to say, "We kind of read each other right from the get-go."
6. In season 9, Ezekiel asks Daryl to leave him and Carol alone at the Hilltop and move somewhere else so they can have space to heal. How does Daryl respond?

Answer: "You think that's what Carol wants?"

When Daryl asks if the move is what Carol wants, Ezekiel responds, "It's what we both want." However, not long after, Carol ends her marriage to Ezekiel and attempts to return her wedding ring.
7. Which of these is not something Daryl and Carol have in common?

Answer: They've both lost a child

Daryl was abused by his father in his childhood, while Carol was abused by her husband Ed. Carol was forced to see her daughter come out of Hershel's barn, transformed into a walker, while Daryl discovered his brother Merle feasting on a dead body.
8. After being thrown by Hershel's horse in his search for Sophia, Daryl is laid up in bed. When Carol brings him dinner, where does she kiss him?

Answer: On his forehead

Carol brings Daryl dinner to thank him for risking his life to search for Sophia. When she gives him a gentle kiss on his bandaged head, he tells her to watch his stitches and turns away.
9. When Carol brings Daryl a plate of food while he's on watch at the prison, what does she ask him?

Answer: "Want to screw around?"

Carol's shoulder is sore in this scene because she's been learning to use a rifle, and the recoil is bothering her. Although she doesn't directly ask, Daryl offers to massage her shoulder, but eventually he freezes and backs away. She lightens the tension by jokingly asking if he wants to screw around.

She furthers the pun when he suggests they should get back to the others. When he says, "I'll go down first," she replies, "Even better."
10. When Daryl thinks Carol is dead, what does he lay at the foot of her cross?

Answer: A Cherokee rose

Later, Daryl finds a walker on the ground of the prison, which is keeping a door from opening. He assumes Carol has died and become a walker inside the room, and so he sits outside it for several minutes, trying to work up his nerve to go inside and slay her walker corpse. When he finally does jerk the door open, he finds her weak but still alive and carries her through the prison.
11. In what episode does Daryl run to Carol and hug her so hard he lifts her off the ground?

Answer: No Sanctuary

Rick banished Carol for killing Karen and David to prevent the spread of disease in the prison. Carol later quietly rescued the group from Terminus, and in "No Sanctuary," she approaches them cautiously in the woods, seemingly unsure of her reception, but Daryl breaks into a run and embraces her.
12. In what episode does Daryl burn the bodies of a mother and child walker while Carol sleeps in order to spare her the pain of dealing with them?

Answer: Consumed

While searching for Beth, Daryl and Carol end up staying overnight at a battered women's shelter Carol once stayed in when fleeing from her abusive husband. After only a day, however, she chose to return to Ed. Daryl, seeing how distressed she is upon seeing a mother and child walker at the shelter, tells her she doesn't have to kill them.

He takes care of it and burns the bodies rather than merely leaving them.
13. When Daryl finds Carol in the house outside the Kingdom, and she asks how everyone is back at Alexandria, he takes a long moment to work up his courage before telling her that Glenn and Abraham are dead.

Answer: False

In the episode "New Best Friends," in order to spare her the grief, Daryl lies and tells her everyone is fine back in Alexandria. The next morning, he returns to the Hilltop to help Rick fight Negan.
14. What does Daryl do for Carol when they discover her daughter has turned into a walker?

Answer: He holds Carol in place when she tries to run to Sophia

Rick is the one who shoots Sophia, while Daryl holds onto a weeping Carol and slides to the ground with her.
15. In the episode "Stradivarius," what does Carol tell Daryl there's "just enough time" to do while dinner cooks?

Answer: Cut his hair

Carol visits Daryl at his camp in the woods to ask him to keep an eye on Henry at the Hilltop. While the snake Daryl caught is cooking for dinner, she gives him a haircut. Carol does, however, joke about making friendship bracelets later in season 10.
