Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Doctor wore a ring, which he was very fond of, however, after his regeneration, he didn't care for it anymore?

Answer: the first Doctor (William Hartnell)

When the Doctor regenerated for the first time, his companions - Ben and Polly - were confused at who this man, who claimed to be the Doctor was. Ben came to the conclusion that if the ring fitted, then he must be the Doctor. The ring no longer fitted the Doctor's finger and slide off. His previous self had treasured this ring, but the second Doctor just left it on the floor.
2. Which Doctor had a cobra/dragon tattooed on his right forearm?

Answer: the third Doctor (Jon Pertwee)

Thought by fans as a Time Lord criminal brand as the tattoo only lasts for this incarnation. It is first seen in 'Spearhead from Space' during that silly scene in the shower. =)
3. Which Doctor frequently stated that he always let his curiosity get the better of him?

Answer: the fifth Doctor (Peter Davison)

The fifth Doctor frequently muttered the words: "Why do I always let my curiosity get the better of me?"
4. Which Doctor, whilst suffering from post-regeneration trauma, tried to strangle his young companion?

Answer: the sixth Doctor (Colin Baker)

Not long after his regeneration, the sixth Doctor accuses Peri of being completely evil, and tries to strangle her, fortunately, she manages to stop him be showing him his reflection in her pocket mirror.
5. Which Doctor enjoyed to play the recorder?

Answer: the second Doctor (Patrick Troughton)

Patrick Troughton's Doctor often played a little tune on his recorder, most often 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. None of his other incarnations have shown this ability.
6. Which Doctor had an Estuary accent, despite the actor's own accent being strongly Scottish?

Answer: the tenth Doctor (David Tennant)

The seventh Doctor did have a Scottish accent, the ninth was from up North, and the fourth didn't really have a placeable accent, though Tom Baker was from Liverpool. David Tennant has quite a strong Scottish accent, but the producers decided to give the tenth Doctor an Estuary accent for the reason that 'he had spent so much time with Rose'.
7. Which Doctor had a rather 'gothic' style TARDIS?

Answer: the eighth Doctor (Paul McGann)

In 'Doctor Who: The Enemy Within' (aka the TV movie) the eighth Doctor (and the seventh Doctor at the very start of the film) travelled in a very gothic TARDIS, complete with bats. The scanner had also changed from being on the wall, to being the whole roof.
8. Which of these actors played the Doctor for the longest?

Answer: Tom Baker (the fourth Doctor)

Tom Baker played the Doctor for seven years, 1974 - 1981 ('Robot' - 'Logopolis').

Jon Pertwee played the Doctor for four years, 1970 - 1974 ('Spearhead from Space' - 'The Planet of the Spiders').

William Hartnell played the Doctor for three years, 1963 - 1966 ('An Unearthly Child' - 'The Tenth Planet').

Paul McGann played the Doctor (on screen) for 90 minutes, 1996 ('The Enemy Within' aka the TV movie).
9. Which actor was playing the Doctor when the series was axed in 1989?

Answer: Sylvester McCoy

Sylvester McCoy was the Doctor when the series ended with 'Survival'. His Doctor was next seen in 'Doctor Who: The Enemy Within', in which he regenerated into Paul McGann during the first ten minutes.
10. What did the ninth Doctor say that he ended up doing the last time he went on a ship that was said to be 'unsinkable'?

Answer: Clinging to an iceberg

In 'The End of the World', the Doctor and Jabe the tree person are investigating Platform One's main-frame when Jabe describes Platform One the Doctor applies the nautical metaphor 'unsinkable' - to which he follows up with 'Last time I went on a ship they said was unsinkable I ended up clinging to an iceberg - wasn't half cold.'
