Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What do members of the Vatos gang and members of Rick's group fight over in an alleyway in Atlanta?

Answer: A bag of guns

Both groups are trying to recover the bag of guns Rick left behind in Atlanta when he fled walkers. When one of the Vatos gang members grabs the bag of guns, Daryl shoots him in the butt with a crossbow bolt, and the man drops the bag. The gang, however, kidnaps Glenn. "Vatos" is Spanish for "dudes" or "youth."
2. Where did the Vatos gang live?

Answer: In a nursing home

Most of the members of the "gang" had family living in the Atlanta Nursing Home. The elderly were abandoned by most of the staff at the start of the Outbreak. Because they were too feeble to move, their family members instead barricaded and fortified the nursing home and lived off of the food there and continued to use the medicines to care for the elderly.

They further supplied themselves by scavenging.
3. Who was the leader of the Vatos gang?

Answer: Guillermo

Guillermo, also known simply as G, was a custodian at the Atlanta Nursing Home. When the nursing staff fled, he remained to care for the elderly. Over time, he became the leader of that group. Guillermo was played by Neil Brown, Jr.

Morales was a member of Shane's group at the Atlanta survivor camp in the quarry. Negan led the Saviors, and Merle was Daryl's brother.
4. Which of the following was NOT a member of the Vatos gang?

Answer: Rosita

Jorge, played by James Gonzaba, is the Vatos member who grabs Glenn. Felipe, played by Noel Gugliemi, is the one who is shot by Daryl and drops the bag of guns. Felipe was the only nurse to remain at the Atlanta Nursing Home when the medical staff deserted. He served as a care provider and supply runner for the Vatos gang. Miguel, played by Anthony Guajardo, is left behind after the scuffle over the guns and the kidnapping of Glenn, and so Rick's group takes him and then brings him to do a prisoner exchange.

Rosita was a member of Abraham and Eugene's group, and she met up with Rick's group in a later season.
5. When Rick's group and the Vatos gang are having an armed standoff and negotiating a trade of prisoners, who interrupts by shuffling up to the group to express concern about someone having an asthma attack?

Answer: Abuela

Felipe and Miguel's grandmother, whom they call "Abuela" (Spanish for grandmother) shuffles in to express concern that Mr. Gilbert needs his inhaler because he is having an asthma attack. She's wearing slippers and a nightgown. She sees Rick in uniform and, unaware of the apocalypse, thinks he's come to arrest Miguel.

She begs him not to take her grandson away to jail. This confuses Rick's group, who think they are dealing with a ruthless gang.
6. The leader of the Vatos gang tells Rick he's going to chop up Glenn and feed him to his three man-eating dogs. What do the dogs turn out to be?

Answer: Chihuahuas

Abuela takes Rick's hand and leads him to see the "Asian boy" (Glenn) who is with Mr. Gilbert. That's when Rick's group sees the Vatos gang has been caring for nursing home residents and that the three dogs Guillermo referenced are, in fact, little chihuahuas that yap when they come inside. Rick tells Guillermo that he was behaving stupidly, that they came there "ready to kill every last one of you."
7. The leader of the Vatos gang says, "These people all look to me now. I don't even know why." What does Rick reply?

Answer: Because they can.

Rick is impressed with what Guillermo is doing for his people. Rick seems to relate to him as someone who also bears a difficult burden of leadership.

The Vatos gang appear in season 1, episode 4, which was titled "Vatos." The episode aired on November 21, 2010 on AMC in the United States and on November 26, 2010 on Fox in the United Kingdom.
8. Which member of Rick's group objected to leaving the Vatos gang "half" their guns and ammo, asking, "For what, a bunch of old farts who are going to die momentarily anyhow?"

Answer: Daryl

Shane and Dale never encountered the Vatos gang. Rick left the gang some guns and ammo because he respected what Guillermo was doing and wanted them to be able to protect themselves. Daryl objected later as they were trekking back to camp. "Seriously," he asks Rick, "how long do you think they got?"
9. What eventually happened to the members of the Vatos gang?

Answer: At some point, their camp was invaded and they were shot execution style.

The fate of the Vatos gang is revealed in a deleted scene from season 1, episode 8, "What Lies Ahead." After fleeing the CDC, Rick's group decides to go seek refuge in the nursing home, only to find it overrun with walkers and everyone shot execution style. It's Daryl who notices they were executed, as they've all been shot in the head and didn't turn. They stay a night in the nursing home and then move on.
10. Some of the extras who played members of the Vatos camp later appeared as different characters in "The Walking Dead." One Vatos gang member, played by Travis Love, went on to play what guard and soldier of Woodbury?

Answer: Shumpert

Travis Love played both a Vatos thug and Shumpert, who appeared in twelve episodes as a guard and soldier for Woodbury and later member of Caesar Martinez's camp. Cesar Martinez, who was second-in-command of the Woodbury Army, started his own camp after parting ways with the Governor, and an actress who played a resident at the nursing home in "Vatos" also played a resident of his camp in season 4, episode 7, "Dead Weight." Additionally, Timothy Douglas Perez played both a Vatos thug and a guard at the Savior's satellite outpost in season 8, episode 2 ("The Damned").

However, executive producer Robert Kirkman confirmed that all members of the gang were dead, so these are completely different characters played by the same actors.
