Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "I'm not a Quaker."

Answer: Winters

Guarnere has somehow got the idea in his head that Winters is a Quaker. Winters sets the record straight in "Day of Days."
2. "George, what would I do without George Luz?" Who's happy to be playing darts with Luz?

Answer: Compton

George Luz and "Buck" Compton are playing darts. Buck has been shooting with his left hand all night. After the two make a bet for cigarettes with some other soldiers, Luz asks if Buck will continue to shoot as he has, because he is actually right-handed. Buck says the above and switches hands. They win the cigarettes.
3. "Really? It's hot in Africa?"

Answer: Malarkey

One soldier expresses his fear that the company might be sent to Africa instead of Europe. Guarnere says, "My brother's in North Africa, he says it's hot there," to which Malarkey responds with the above.
4. "Lieutenant Nixon thinks this is a can of peaches."

Answer: Sobel

Sobel has just tossed around the men's bunks, looking for contraband. He finds the can of peaches and asks what it is. Nixon replies, "Uh, it's a can of peaches, sir." Sobel says the above and adds that Nixon's weekend pass is revoked as punishment for giving a wrong answer, as the correct answer was "United States Army property." The man who stole the peaches was transferred out of the company.
5. Who insists that "Flamingos are mean. They bite" in "Currahee"?

Answer: Joe Domingus

Muck says he's disappointed not to be going to the Pacific where soldiers supposedly are surrounded by naked women and feed flamingos. Joe Domingus says above line, to which someone else responds, "So do the naked native girls."
6. "When you talk to an officer, you say 'sir.'" Which officer says this?

Answer: Speirs

This quotation comes from real life. The men of Easy Co. have caught the replacement they think shot Grant in an earlier scene. Speirs comes into the room holding a gun; he asks the replacement where the gun is, and the man replies, "What weapon?" Speirs then pistol-whips him and says the above.
7. Okay, an exchange: "This here is Carwood Lipton." "He's already married, Smokey."

Answer: Gordon and Malarkey

Gordon says the first line. Malarkey "interprets" it to mean Gordon is auctioning off Lipton for a date with a girl and responds with the second line. It turns out Gordon just wanted to announce that Lipton was promoted to 1st Sergeant.
8. "They got me. Can you believe that? Can you believe I said that?"

Answer: David Webster

Webster was a writer and was disgusted that he used a cliche after he got shot in the leg. He later wrote a book about his experiences called "Parachute Infantry."
9. "Yeah, well you outta. You are officers, you are grown-ups, you outta know!" Who just showed his rare angry side?

Answer: Roe

Heyliger was shot several times. Not only did Winters and Welsh not keep track of how much morphine they gave him, they may have given him "Two, three syrettes maybe," which sometimes is enough to kill a person normally, never mind someone who had lost so much blood. Doc Roe is understandably angry and lets them have it.
10. "What's this? Two medics in one hole?"

Answer: Dike

"Foxhole Norman" Dike cannot find his foxhole and comes upon Roe and Spina in the same foxhole assessing their medical supplies. When Dike says this, Spina replies, "Yes, sir."
11. "How do I feel about being rescued by Patton? Well, I'd feel pretty peachy about it except for one thing--we didn't need to be rescued by Patton. Got that?"

Answer: Toye

Joe doesn't believe that his division needed to be rescued after the fighting at Bastogne, so he lets the film crew know what he thinks. Winters pulls him aside and says he agrees.
12. All right, another exchange: "Where's Dike?" "He's around, sir." "Could you be a little more specific there, Sergeant?" "Not really, sir." Who takes part in this conversation?

Answer: Compton and Lipton

"Foxhole Norman" is off on another walk. They just arrived at their new position and have no idea where their C.O. is. Bad way to start the day.
13. "It's called wounded, peanut. Injured's when you fall out of a tree or something."

Answer: Martin

A replacement has asked if many of the soldiers have been injured. Martin responds with this quotation, which Muck follows with a humorous list of Easy Co. casualties.
14. "Bull, smack him for me please?" Who makes this request while walking through the woods in "Why We Fight"?

Answer: Luz

Perconte comments on how the woods they're walking through reminds him of Bastogne. Luz does not see the similarities and, after sarcastically agreeing, says the above. Bull is happy to oblige.
15. "Aw, Skinny, you got blood all over my trousers!" Who's upset at having been dirtied in "Bastogne"?

Answer: Frank Perconte

Skinny is hit badly in the leg and has refused morphine. Perconte and Roe are carrying him and fall, causing Skinny more pain. Perconte says the above. Skinny's reply? "I'm real sorry, Frank!"
