In doing so, he will tell the player that the four they must go after are Seath the Scaleless, the Four Kings of New Londo, Gravelord Nito and the Witch of Izalith. The former three are straightforward enough to identify, but the latter doesn't actually go by the name 'Witch of Izalith' as she once did. What boss must the player fight, a boss who the Witch of Izalith has transformed into? Hint

Question 11 of 15
11. Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Dark Souls 1", Kingseeker Frampt will tell the player that they'll need the Lordvessel in order to eventually link the First Flame. What does the Lordvessel do?

Answer: Harbor the Lord Souls

Once the Lordvessel is acquired, the player needs to locate the four Lord Souls and deliver them to it in order to access the Kiln of the First Flame. Without the Lordvessel, the Lord Souls would be useless.
2. In "Dark Souls 2" the player will venture into Drangleic Castle towards the later stages of the game. Unsurprisingly, it has been overrun by hostile forces who will attack the player on sight. Though seemingly abandoned at first, the player will eventually encounter a notable NPC here. Who is it?

Answer: Nashandra

Nashandra has created an illusion of herself in life. In actuality, she is far less innocent and beautiful as she initially appears. Whether or not she is even human isn't ever officially revealed, but she will later meet the player with her true self revealed: decrepit with wrinkled skin, loose black hair, mostly black clothing and a massive scythe she will use to attack.

In Drangleic Castle, however, she maintains a facade of a 'damsel in distress' trope because she hopes to convince the player to locate the King's Ring, open the door to the Throne of Want and, in doing so, accidentally allow Nashandra to access and potentially takeover the throne.
3. In "Dark Souls 3", the player's initial goal is to locate the four Lords of Cinder and deliver them to the Firelink Shrine. There is a lot of build up before the player encounters their first Lord(s) of Cinder, the Abyss Watchers. They're stated in the game's lore to be capable of destroying entire empires in mere days. Yet, when the player finally locates them in their boss fight room, the Abyss Watchers are in a rather precarious state. What is going on?

Answer: They're fighting amongst themselves

As the player travels deeper into Farron Keep, they'll begin to hear loud fighting sounds coming from inside the Abyss Watchers' boss room. When the player enters the room, a cutscene will play, showing the Abyss Watchers fighting amongst themselves. One lone Abyss Watchers eventually is the last one standing- he will immediately turn to face the player and strike a defensive pose with his sword before the scene ends and the fight begins. During the fight, seemingly slain Abyss Watchers will periodically rise and jump into the fray- but they won't necessarily attack the player, and might even help them fight the would-be lone Abyss Watcher left standing.

Clearly, the Abyss Watchers have all gone hollow, explaining their in-fighting.
4. In "Dark Souls 1", the game's final boss, Gwyn, Lord of Cinder, was originally ruler of all of Lordran. He decided to sacrifice his soul to rekindle the First Flame, taking a sizable army from his throne room towards the Kiln of the First Flame. Where did Gwyn originally live before doing this?

Answer: Anor Londo

Anor Londo, known as "City of the Gods", is where Gwyn, his family and his army resided. When the First Flame began to fade, Gwyn decided it was necessary to sacrifice himself to keep it lit, so he took half his army from Anor Londo to make his way to the Kiln of the First Flame, where neither he nor his men would ever return from.
5. In "Dark Souls 2", the player may encounter a boss known simply as 'Fume Knight' within the Brume Tower. Fume Knight may simply seem like a big man with a very big sword, but he has a name and actually is a very prominent character in the game's story. Who is Fume Knight?

Answer: Raime

In the game's lore, it is said that Raime served under King Vendrick for a long time as his left-hand man, opposite Velstadt. When Nashandra came into the picture, Velstadt was too oblivious to see her for who she really was, but Raime wasn't. Raime was more concerned for doing right by the entirety of Drangleic, while Velstadt devoted himself specifically to Vendrick, who too was blinded by Nashandra's trickery.

When Raime attempted to rebel against Vendrick in a last-ditch effort to dispose of Nashandra, he dueled Velstadt and was defeated.

In being defeated, Raime was banished from Drangleic and came to Brume Tower to empower himself, so that he may one day return to deal with Nashandra. However, in doing so, he was tricked by Nadalia, fragment of Manus and was corrupted by the Abyss.

The player finds him in this state, and is able to at least give him an honorable death in the process.
6. In "Dark Souls 3", the player will need to eventually defeated Aldrich, Devourer of Gods in order to obtain what would either be their second or third Lord of Cinder Soul. Much like the first one they encountered, the player will enter Aldrich's boss room and find him to be in a fairly undesirable position. What's wrong with Aldrich?

Answer: His personal hygiene

When they enter the boss room, they'll immediately step into a large pool of wet, light sludge which covers most of the floors. As disgusting as it seems, it turns out that this is Aldrich's excrement, as he had eaten so many people that it seems to have pacified him and made him unable to maintain his own hygiene.

In essence, Aldrich had spent some time wallowing his own filth, definitely not conduct befitting a Lord of Cinder. Between this and what happened with the Abyss Watchers, it seems that these supposedly extraordinarily powerful entities have some large issue at hand...
7. In "Dark Souls 1", the player will have to access Sen's Fortress eventually in order to reach Anor Londo to locate the Lordvessel. Upon approaching the stronghold, however, the player will find that a massive gate is blocking their entry. There is a prerequisite to entering Sen's Fortress- what is it?

Answer: Ring the Bells of Awakening

The bells located in the Undead Parish and in Quelagg's Domain must be rung. They can be rung in any order, and after doing so, the gate barring Sen's Fortress will be opened and the player will be allowed entry.
8. In "Dark Souls 2", the player will eventually have multiple encounters with what is essentially Drangleic's military force. What is their name?

Answer: Dragonriders

The Dragonriders are King Vendrick's Royal Guard. They have a very rigorous acceptance process, like any military or regulated militia might, and wield high quality weapons with heavy armor. The player will encounter one as a boss fight at Heide's Tower of Flame, then will encounter two Dragonriders as a boss fight at Drangleic Castle.

In "Scholar of the First Sin," they will also find one Dragonrider as a mini boss at Shrine of Amana.
9. In "Dark Souls 3", the player's second or third Lord of Cinder, Yhorm the Giant, does something quite odd. The player will quickly find that regular weapons do virtually no damage to Yhorm, and they'll need the mighty Storm Ruler to penetrate his thick hide. As it happens, the player can only find the Storm Ruler in Yhorm's boss room. What does Yhorm do with the Storm Ruler?

Answer: Simply leave it in plain sight

The Storm Ruler is found right in front of the throne Yhorm sits on as the player approaches him. It is in plain view to the point where the player would have to deliberately ignore it not to see it. It is the only weapon in the game capable of doing meaningful damage to Yhorm. Yhorm has the second most HP out of every boss in the game, only falling slightly short of the Ancient Wyvern and barely edging out Darkeater Midir, while having noticeably better defense against non-Storm Ruler weapons than them.

It is heavily implied that Yhorm wants the player to defeat him. As it happens, much like the Abyss Watchers, Yhorm was comatose for a long period of time after using his own soul alongside the other Lords of Cinder to rekindle the First Flame. Before doing this, Yhorm himself was a feared and revered general, a man who fought valiantly to protect the Capital of a city he once ruled that no longer has a name. When Yhorm awoke, he found his empire had fully diminished, everyone within it either dead or fled. He also awoke at a time when his soul would be needed again, only he flat out refused to help this time. Considering how much emotional hardship Yhorm underwent, it's not out of the question to imagine he decided to simply give up inwardly. This explains why outwardly he fights the player, but he leaves a weapon that could kill him very easily in plain sight, so that the player may retrieve it and give Yhorm the merciful ending he subconsciously desired.
10. In "Dark Souls 1", the player is informed by Kingseeker Frampt that they must seek out and defeat four Lords and use their souls to rekindle the First Flame.

Answer: Bed of Chaos

The Witch of Izalith was a rebellious woman who attempted to link the First Flame when the then-Lords of Cinder refused to give up their souls to do so. She attempted to do so with her own pyromancy magic. This ended up being a mistake, as this caused a series of unearthly explosions that are said to have brought forth Demons into Lordran.

As well, the process severely twisted and deformed the Witch of Izalith's body, turning her into the Bed of Chaos. In defeating the Bed of Chaos, the player will essentially acquire the Witch of Izalith's soul.
11. In "Dark Souls 2", the Witch of Izalith somewhat comes back under the spotlight, as it is heavily implied that she influenced, or even mind controlled, someone into trying to link the First Flame. The player will encounter this boss fight against this individual, and they'll notice a small bug crawl into this character's mask in a cinematic before the fight begins. Who is this boss fight?

Answer: Lost Sinner

The Lost Sinner was said to have been someone who tried but failed to relink the First Flame. Upon her failure, she became a recluse from society who also tortured herself as some bizarre type of punishment for her supposed transgressions. As the player enters her boss room, a cutscene will play that shows a bug crawl into the Lost Sinner's mask- this is not unlike "Dark Souls 1" where a similar type of bug was used to corrupt and mind control Solaire of Astora, a bug which was essentially being controlled by the Witch of Izalith.

As such, it is virtually a given that the Witch of Izalith was behind the Lost Sinner somehow, at the very least during her boss fight.
12. With the first three Lords of Cinder having refused to link the First Flame, "Dark Souls 3's" Lothric and Lorian have also done so. In their opening cinematic, as Lothric greets the player, he reveals why he refused to Link the First Flame, as well as why he isn't even interested in being a Lord of Cinder. Why has Lothric refused these duties?

Answer: He believed it would be better if he refused them

It is said in his lore that Lothric was essentially tricked into believing in these duties from a very early age. Then one day, his personal mentor referred to as the "First Scholar" privately told him of the treachery he had been pulled into, specifically that he would suffer an agonizing death of eternal torture for a cause that wouldn't even be largely beneficial in the long run, as the flame would simply begin to fade another day anyway.

As well, Lothric has the support of his fellow prince Lorian, who opted to share in an unidentifiable 'curse' which greatly crippled the two, causing Lothric to be remarkably frail and Lorian to be both mute and unable to walk on his own legs.
13. In "Dark Souls 1", once the player defeats Lord Gwyn, they're prompted to Link the First Flame and end the game then and there. What must the player give up in order to finally finish the job?

Answer: Their soul

A cutscene will play which will show the player's character being slowly set ablaze by a bonfire from within the Kiln of the First Flame. Their character doesn't, at least initially, seem hurt or in any sort of distress, and eventually the Fire covers their entire body. After this, end credits roll and the player will be forced into New Game+.
14. In "Dark Souls 2", there is actually only one ending that involves the player gaining a very prominent role within Drangleic. What role is this?

Answer: Ruler

With Vendrick out of the picture, the player will link the First Flame and, in doing so, become the new formal ruler of Drangleic. Much like "Dark Souls 1," the game essentially ends here. Though the player isn't kicked to NG+ like the latter, the storyline ends at this point and the player won't be able to do anything of lore significance for the rest of the play through.
15. In "Dark Souls 3", the final boss is the Soul of Cinder. Per the game's lore, the Soul of Cinder is essentially an amalgamation of everyone who ever linked the First Flame. This involves Lord Gwyn, but it also involves at least two other important characters. Who is one of them?

Answer: The protagonist of "Dark Souls 1"

Given that both protagonists in "Dark Souls" and its sequel canonically ended up linking the First Flame, the player is essentially fighting them in tandem here. If the player played the first two games before the third, it's not inaccurate to say that they're essentially fighting themselves from those two games. Considering how long, deep and challenging these games are, that can make quite the emotional impact in tandem with the beautiful atmosphere and soundtrack of the encounter.

As well, the Soul of Cinder has an incredibly wide movepool where he can use Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Faith based weapons to fight with.

In its second phase, the Soul of Cinder visually calls forth the Soul of Gwyn, the first Lord of Cinder, in a last-ditch effort to defeat the player, and will inherit Gwyn's moveset from "Dark Souls 1" seamlessly.
