Pushing the RIGHT analog stick in any direction, will make the fielder show off when catching the ball. This will make it more likely that he will miss the catch, so only try it when you're up by several runs in a game.

2. What is the name of the mode where the player can control the base runner?

Answer: Base Burner

This mode is only accessible in one-person play. You can still control WHAT you want the batter to do, while not actually controlling the batter. He may not succeed in doing what you want, but he will try. Use the Directional Buttons to have the batter bunt, swing at, or take a pitch, or the CPU can do what it thinks is best.

Select the runner you want to control by hitting the symbol on the runner in the boxes. Then to advance the runner, press L1, and press R1 to send him back.

When fielding a ball, you can let the CPU decide which is the best base to throw the ball to by pressing L1. It is still possible that the ball will be thrown away, so be careful.

If you guess where the pitch will be thrown, or the pitcher gives you a "meat pitch," and you move the batting cursor over the pitch location, you will enter Slamzone. Once in Slamzone, tap the X button rapidly to build up the power meter. When the word "swing" appears, press the circle button. Don't be late, or you'll miss the ball for a strike. If you have enough power, and you make contact, hang on! It can also work the other way around too, so be careful not to make any pitching mistakes.

You can see the L1 button appear above the cut-off man, and if you press it, he will catch it instead of the baseman you selected. If you want to make a faster throw to home, let the cut-off man catch the ball and then fire it home. If you don't, the ball is likely to get there slower and allow the runner to score.

Answer: R1

Use the R1 button to go faster. You can also use it to throw the ball faster and farther. One of the cheats you can access is the Super Turbo, which gives you unlimited turbo.
