1. Throughout the game, how many different characters can you actually control in battle?

Answer: 12

Aside from the 8 main characters (Zidane, Dagger, Steiner, Vivi, Quina, Eiko, Amarant, Freya); there are four more. In the beginning of the game, you get to play as Blank, Marcus, and Cinna. Also, later in the game, you get to play as the powerful General Beatrix. During a very short part of the game, you control Cid, but you cannot participate in any battles with him.

2. What is the name of the item that teachers Dagger the eidolon 'Ark'?

Answer: Pumice

Near the end of the game, in Memoria, you can fight the optional boss, Hades. If you're lucky enough to get past him, he'll tell you that he is the legendary synthesist. By giving him 2 pumice pieces, he'll create the item 'Pumice', which teachers Dagger her final summon.

3. What is the strongest weapon in the game?

Answer: Excalibur 2

Excalibur 2 is by far the strongest weapon in the game, with an attack of over 100. To get it though, is quite a chore. You have to get to the terrace in Memoria within 12 hours or it's gone. In my opinion, it's not worth rushing through the game to get, but that's just me.

4. How many times do you battle against Beatrix during the course of the game?

Answer: 3

Three times you have to fight against this legendary general. If it's any consolation, you get to play as her for a short time.

5. What is the name of the optional hidden boss located in the library of Alexandria Castle?

Answer: Tantarian

Tantarian is quite a pest, and if you don't know how to fight him the right way, he's incredibly hard. As far as hidden bosses in this game go, I'd say he's the third hardest out of four.

6. What summon spell is learned from the item 'topaz'?

Answer: Ifrit

Ramuh is learned from the item 'peridot', Bahamut from 'garnet', and Odin from 'dark matter'.

7. What color chocobo is needed to reach the Chocobo Air Garden?

Answer: Gold

Makes sense right? You need the gold chocobo (flying) to reach the air garden, where the most ferocious enemy in the entire game dwells... Ozma.

8. After giving Cid (oglop form) a potion to turn him back into a human, what does he turn into?

Answer: Frog

Poor, poor Cid. After you give him the potion meant to restore him into a human, he actually becomes a frog! You can still recognize him though because he still has his traditional handlebar mustache.

9. What is the name of the card game in 'Final Fantasy IX'?

Answer: Tetra Master

Yes, the card game is back from 'Final Fantasy VIII'. The name of the game has changed from Triple Triad to Tetra Master though. I, for one, preferred Triple Triad, but this game is fun too.

10. True or false: Dagger and Eiko can both learn the spell 'Holy'.

Answer: False

Eiko is the only one who can use this spell. Dagger has no offensive white magic in her arsenal, but she does have a lot more summons than Eiko does. Quina, has a spell almost passing for holy (level 4 holy) but it only works if your enemy has a level that is a multiple of four (4,8,12,etc).
