Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these was not a winquote said by Terry Bogard in '95?

Answer: "Aw, lighten up! With your punches, you had to lose!"

This quote was from '96. Terry Bogard, originally from "Fatal Fury", has been in every "King of Fighters" game, along with several others (including my favorite, Iori Yagami).
2. Though he appeared in '94, this character didn't have a winquote until '95 where he taunted his victims with "Oh, cheer up; you never had a chance to begin with!". Who is this?

Answer: Iori Yagami

Almost all of Iori's winquotes are meant to humiliate and insult the loser. One of his more famous ones was in 2000: "It's like I'm assisting in a suicide! Hate not me, hate your own weakness."
3. Which of these is not said by Mature?

Answer: "Well, I guess I'm through; there's no more bones to break!"

This quote is said by Vice, not Mature. Just as Kyo Kusanagi often enters the "King of Fighters" tournament with Benimaru Nikaido and Goro Daimon at his side, the two Orochi warriors known only as Vice and Mature are never seen apart from Iori Yagami.

They've even defected against their creator and master, Orochi, to be with him. How does Iori thank them? He kills them in '97. Fortunately for them, they're immortal.
4. Which character, when victorious, will cheerfully remind the loser "Don't forget to save!"?

Answer: Shermie

"Game over pal! :) Don't forget to save! :) Sweet Dreams! :)" is the full winquote from Shermie. Yes, the smiley faces are a part of the quote. Shermie is one of the three people controlled by Orochi in '98 (the other two being Chris and Yashiro).
5. Which evil character enters a fight by saying: "From its cocoon, the butterfly flutters away."

Answer: Orochi

Since the fighter's intros and other in-game quotes were never dubbed, players of "King of Fighters 1997" would recognize this quote as: "Sanagi wo yaburi, chou wa mau."
6. What do most of Goenitz's in-game quotes often mention?

Answer: God

Goenitz's quotes include: "Now, pray to your god!", "Feel the wrath of God!", "Offer penance while there is still time!", and "I see your god has relinquished his graces from you."
7. Which of these is said by Chris when he's defeated?

Answer: "Oh...h, hikari ga..."

The translation of this quote is "Oh... the light...", symbolizing the light often seen by people who are near death. "Shimatta" is a term I'd rather not translate, but encompasses everything from a mild expletive (such as "darn" or "shoot") to a much more vulgar term. "Kono mama de wa owaranzo!" means "It can't end like this!" and is Iori's quote when he's defeated. "Otegami choudai!" is Choi's quote, which translates to "Please send me a letter!"
8. Put in the "King of Fighters" tournament more for comic relief, the fighter who happily mentions in '99 that he's "not an edit character this time!" idolizes who?

Answer: Kyo Kusanagi

Shingo Yabuki wants nothing more than to be just like Kyo, and often ends up looking pathetic and comical. He claims to be Kyo's student, but his "teacher" finds many excuses to stay away from him. The one thing Kyo and Iori have in common (aside from their flames) is that they both find Shingo utterly obnoxious.
9. Terry Bogard grew up in the Bronx and, as such, speaks English throughout the "King of Fighters" series. Since Andy Bogard is Terry's brother, does he speak English as well?

Answer: No

Though they're brothers, Andy speaks in Japanese. He doesn't speak much, and the only words he'll say is "Yosh!", which means "Okay!". Terry speaks in English, but his voice is still done by a Japanese voice actor, so it's heavily accented. The other Bogard in the series is Mai Shiranui-Bogard... Andy's wife (you knew it had to happen sometime).
10. What is the name of the attack during which Kyo yells "Body ga amai!"?

Answer: Aragami

As the legend goes, while the young, impetuous god Susano-oh was wandering the earth in exile from the heavens, he came upon an elderly couple and their daughter in the Izumo province of Japan. While speaking with the couple, Susano-oh learned that they had lost seven other daughters to an eight-headed serpent, Yamata-no-orochi, who each year took one daughter from them. Susano-oh agreed to help the pair save their remaining daughter from the serpent - if he could marry her in exchange.

The couple readily agreed, and Susano-oh plotted to kill Orochi. First, he quite cleverly changed the daughter, Kushinada-hime, into a hair comb, and hid her away in his hair.

Then he set out eight bowls of sake, one for each of Orochi's heads. Susano-oh defeated the drunken Orochi, and took from his tail a sword called Ame no Murakumo no Tsurugi, which later became known as Kusanagi no Tsurugi (Grass Cutter).

The Aragami was supposedly the child of Orochi.
