Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which former squadmember, provided they survived the previous games, was leading the elite Aralakh Company?

Answer: Grunt

The leader of the krogan, Wrex or Wreav, put together an elite krogan commando unit. They were the best the krogan had to offer, taken from many clans to show that they could unite and be a fearsome foe.

If Grunt survived "Mass Effect 2", he would be the leader of Aralakh Company when Shepard met them on Utukku. Otherwise, it would be Dagg.
2. What did Shepard find when on Utukku with Aralakh Company?

Answer: Rachni

The Rachni were originally seen on Noveria in "Mass Effect". Shepard had the opportunity to either save the last queen, or kill her.

The krogan had a history with the rachni, originally being uplifted from their homeworld to fight them in the rachni wars. Since then, the krogan have been weary and watchful of the return of the rachni.

The Reapers used rachni to create Ravagers, which were armored troops with large cannons. They could also release Swarmers; smaller suicide units that would rush at enemies and explode.

If Shepard saved the queen in "Mass Effect", the queen asked to be released from the Reapers' hold to help fight them, and help construct the Crucible. If the queen was killed in "Mass Effect", Shepard instead met the Breeder on Utukku, who was much more self-serving. She would initially help, but then betray Shepard, if released.

The Thorian was an organism encountered on Feros in "Mass Effect". Shadow Broker Troops were seen in "The Lair of the Shadow Broker" DLC for "Mass Effect 2". The geth were the most prominent enemies in "Mass Effect", and appeared as secondary enemies in "Mass Effect 2" and "Mass Effect 3".
3. Which former squadmember, provided they survived the previous games, was a teacher at Grissom Academy?

Answer: Jack

The Grissom Academy was named after the first human to travel through a Mass Relay. It was a deep space station, and a school for the most advanced students humanity had to offer. It also had a special project, the Ascension Project, where humans with biotic potential cold learn to control and use their biotics.

After "Mass Effect 2", Jack was offered a position with the Ascension Project, and the students reacted well to her teaching style. She became incredibly possessive and protective of her students. While Jack used to be chaotic and jump right into the fight, she advocated a more conservative approach to her students, hoping they would live longer. When Shepard asked what they should do, Jack asked that they be placed at the back of the lines for support roles, rather than at the front.
4. Who was leading a turian platoon on Tuchanka, the krogan homeworld?

Answer: Victus

Adrien Victus was the Primarch of Palaven that Shepard picked up for the war summit. When securing krogan support, he had a special, private request for the Commander. His son, Tarquin, was shot down on Tuchanka by Reaper forces. The Primarch asked Shepard to save his son and his squad. When Shepard met Tarquin, he was ashamed because he felt he had failed the soldiers serving him. His soldiers felt the same way.

Garrus was a member of Shepard's squad, Palin was the former executor of C-Sec, and Nyreen was the first female turian seen a "Mass Effect" game, featured in the "Omega" DLC.
5. What was the turian team on Tuchanka trying to accomplish there?

Answer: Disarm a bomb

When Shepard met Tarquin Victus, the Commander realized that there was much more to the story than the Primarch initially let on. There was a massive bomb on Tuchanka, left there by the turians after the krogan rebellions. Cerberus learned about the bomb, and was attempting to detonate it. This would have caused massive krogan outrage, and shattered any possibility of an alliance. Tarquin managed to disable the bomb, but he ended up sacrificing his own life to do so.

Cerberus had taken control of some orbital cannons on Tuchanka, but the Commander got them back. The salarians wanted Shepard to not cure the genophage, and risk another unchecked krogan expansion. On Rannoch, Shepard had to disable geth anti-aircraft guns before the quarian admiral could be saved.
6. Provided Samara survived "Mass Effect 2", where could Shepard meet her in "Mass Effect 3"?

Answer: An Ardat-Yakshi monastery

In "Mass Effect 2", Shepard met Samara on Illium, though not at the bar.
Samara was a Justicar, and one of Shepard's former squadmembers. In "Mass Effect 3", she could be found on Lesuss. Lesuss was home to an Ardat-Yakshi monastery, where Ardat-Yakshi could be hidden away from those they might otherwise hurt.

Samara had three daughters, all of whom were Ardat-Yakshi. Morinth was the goal of Samara's Loyalty Mission in "Mass Effect 2". Her two remaining daughters were at the monastery.

The Monastery had been attacked by Reaper forces, and Samara was there to save her daughters. The Reapers, true to their nature, used their victims to create new troops, giving rise to the terrifying Banshee enemies. The Monastery had to be cleansed of the Reapers.

Samara's daughter, Falere, was safe, but Rila was already in the process of becoming indoctrinated. Shepard and Samara retreated with Falere, while Rila stayed behind with a bomb. When her sister was safely away, and with multiple Banshees about to finish her conversion, Rila detonated the device in a final act of defiance.

The trouble was not yet over, though. Samara was bound to her Justicar code, and she was not allowed to let an Ardat-Yakshi leave the monastery. To prevent the loss of her third daughter, Samara tried to take her own life. Shepard could perform a Paragon action to save Samara, or let the Justicar commit suicide.
7. Which former squadmember, provided they survived the previous games, did Shepard meet when rescuing former Cerberus scientists on the planet Arrae?

Answer: Jacob

After "Mass Effect 2", Jacob became disillusioned with Cerberus. He took some personal time, and decided he wanted to help people. He figured that because he knew how Cerberus operated, he could be particularly useful in helping people escape and hide from Cerberus.

He was helping a group of former Cerberus scientists and their families, who were hiding on the snowy planet of Arrae. While there, he met and fell in love with Brynn Cole (even if he was in a relationship with Shepard from "Mass Effect 2").
8. Who could Shepard talk to in order to get the support of the galaxy's criminal organizations?

Answer: Aria

Three of the most powerful galactic criminal organizations were the Blue Suns, the Blood Pack, and the Eclipse. On Omega, they were all subservient to Aria. In "Mass Effect 3", despite being ousted from her seat, Aria still had impressive sway over the organizations. She gave Shepard a mission for each of the groups in order to gain their support against the Reapers.

Harkin was the corrupt C-Sec officer from "Mass Effect", who was working with the Blue Suns in "Mass Effect 2". Fist was the owner of Chora's Den in "Mass Effect" and was the man who nearly got Tali killed. If he survived "Mass Effect", he could be found on Omega in "Mass Effect 2". Helena Blake was the leader of a criminal organization in "Mass Effect". She had Shepard kill her partners in crime when they were focused on the more dangerous and morally reprehensible activities. If Shepard convinced her to leave her life of crime, she could be found on Omega as a social worker in "Mass Effect 2".
9. On Rannoch, the quarian homeworld, one of the five quarian admirals was stranded on the surface, surrounded by geth. Which admiral?

Answer: Koris, admiral of the civilian fleet

There were five admirals on the quarian Admiralty Board, and they each had a different opinion on how to approach the geth. Three of the admirals voted to go to war with the geth, while Koris and Tali (if she was promoted to admiral) voted against. Koris wanted to leave the geth alone and settle a new planet for the quarians.

Koris reluctantly outfitted his fleet with weapons so they could take part in the fight to take back the homeworld. During the fight over Rannoch, he was shot down. As the strongest supporter of peace with the geth, he was incredibly important for reaching a non-destructive end to the quarian-geth war. Shepard had the option to launch a rescue mission. During the mission, the Admiral asked Shepard to save his crew rather than himself, which the Commander had the option of doing. Not saving Koris, though, would have disastrous effects for the rest of the quarian fleet.
10. What was special about the six N7 missions?

Answer: They were played on multiplayer maps

"Mass Effect 3" was the first game in the series to have a multiplayer component. In multiplayer, up to four people could play together to fight waves of enemies. If the players managed to finish a match, the Galactic Readiness level would increase. The Galactic Readiness was a percentage that the single-player War Assets were multiplied by, to give the overall Effective Military Strength (EMS). The higher the EMS, the better the ending of "Mass Effect 3" would be.

There were six N7 missions in "Mass Effect 3". They took place on the six original multiplayer maps: Dagger, Ghost, Giant, Glacier, Reactor, and White. The N7 versions of the missions were much easier than the actual multiplayer games on those maps.
