Mass Effect 3 Trivia Questions

1. Which gang did Shepard and Aria T'Loak work with in the "Omega" DLC?

From Quiz
"Mass Effect 3: Omega"

Answer: Talons

The Eclipse, Blue Suns, and Blood Pack were the three mercenary factions from "Mass Effect 2". Shepard fought all three at once on Omega when rescuing Garrus, killing each local leader. After "Mass Effect 2", the Talons rose to fill the power vacuum. The Talons were not seen in a "Mass Effect" game until this DLC, but they were first introduced in the novel "Mass Effect: Ascension", which was published in 2008, before even "Mass Effect 2" was released.

2. Shepard (the player character) met Dr. Garret Bryson at his lab on the Citadel. Bryson was researching the Leviathan of Dis, which seemed to have the Reapers spooked. What happened to Dr. Bryson soon after Shepard arrived?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: Leviathan"

Answer: Bryson was shot and killed by his assistant

Dr. Bryson had a Leviathan object in his lab for study. What he didn't know was that the object slowly enthralled nearby individuals (similar to object Rho from the "Arrival" DLC for "Mass Effect 2"). The more time spent near the object, the stronger the control. Bryson's assistant, Hadley, was normal one minute, and then attacked Bryson once he started telling Shepard about Leviathan. After the assassination, Hadley insisted that he had no memory of the incident. He was taken away, and when Shepard came back later in the DLC, he was in a vegetative state, probably induced by Leviathan to stop him from talking.

3. The "From Ashes" DLC starts with a mission to recover a prothean artifact from which world?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: From Ashes"

Answer: Eden Prime (the first world from "Mass Effect")

The "Mass Effect" series started with a mission to Eden Prime to recover an uncovered prothean artifact. The "From Ashes" DLC started the same way. The second time around, Eden Prime looked much nicer because everything wasn't on fire.

4. The "Mass Effect" galaxy was filled with diverse alien species. Which short species was known for wearing suits to maintain a high internal pressure?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [3]

Answer: Volus

The volus were the third species to discover the Citadel in their cycle, after the asari and salarians. The volus were a mercantile species, focusing on trade and commerce rather than violence. They helped the galactic economy, and established the credit as the intergalactic currency. Because they did not contribute to the military defense of Citadel space, they were only given an embassy instead of a seat on the Council - a decision many volus were still upset about. The volus homeworld, Irune, had a high-pressure atmosphere. When volus left, they had to wear pressure containment suits to interact with other species in more reasonable environments.

5. Which former squad member, from "Mass Effect 2", could be found in "Mass Effect 3" helping the krogan reverse the Genophage (assuming they survived).

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [1]

Answer: Mordin Solus

Mordin was a salarian scientist who had worked to preserve the effects of the Genophage. After traveling with Shepard in "Mass Effect 2", he came to realize that controlling the krogan was wrong, and began working to undo the effects of the bioweapon. In "Mass Effect 3" he was working with krogan females to find a cure, and secretly tipped off the krogan leaders that a cure was being developed. In "Mass Effect 3", Shepard found Mordin on Sur'Kesh, the salarian homeworld. They then traveled to Tuchanka, the krogan homeworld, to release the cure into the atmosphere (or not, depending on Shepard's actions).

6. The enemy design in "Mass Effect 3" was much more intricate than previous titles in the series. Different enemy types would work together to make things difficult for players. Which Reaper unit would add extra armour plating to Husks and Cannibals?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" Enemies [1]

Answer: Marauders

Marauders were made by corrupting turians. They were the next most dangerous Reaper enemy, after Husks and Cannibals. They would often appear alongside Husks and Cannibals, and give them armour plating. The plates had to be shot off before the enemy beneath could be damaged. Players could also shoot around the plates, or use armour-piercing weapons. Marauders were more cautious, and used cover and conventional movement and shooting, rather than rushing at players. They used the turian made Phaeston assault rifles to attack from mid range.

7. Which former squadmember, provided they survived the previous games, was leading the elite Aralakh Company?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" Side Missions

Answer: Grunt

The leader of the krogan, Wrex or Wreav, put together an elite krogan commando unit. They were the best the krogan had to offer, taken from many clans to show that they could unite and be a fearsome foe. If Grunt survived "Mass Effect 2", he would be the leader of Aralakh Company when Shepard met them on Utukku. Otherwise, it would be Dagg.

8. Which squad member was severely wounded on Mars?

From Quiz The "Mass Effect 3" Story [3]

Answer: Ashley or Kaidan

In "Mass Effect", either Ashley or Kaidan were sacrificed to stop Saren. The one that lived returned to be a squad member in "Mass Effect 3". On Mars, Shepard started with James and either Ashley or Kaidan. The squad later met up with Liara, and James was sent back to the shuttle. Liara helped Shepard track Dr. Eva Coré, who had sabotaged the research facility to let Cerberus in. It turned out that Dr. Coré was an AI in an advanced robotic body. She severely wounded either Ashley or Kaidan just before Shepard and the squad got off Mars. They took the robotic body, and EDI commandeered it for herself, becoming a squad member. Ashley or Kaidan were taken to the hospital on the Citadel. Once they had healed, Shepard had the option of letting them rejoin the Normandy's crew. Tali, provided she survived "Mass Effect 2", did not appear in "Mass Effect 3" until Shepard went to resolve the quarian-geth conflict.

9. "Mass Effect 3" was the first in the series to actually show the surface of Earth. In which city was Shepard being held at the beginning of "Mass Effect 3"?

From Quiz The "Mass Effect 3" Story [2]

Answer: Vancouver

Commander Shepard was under house arrest in Vancouver at the beginning of "Mass Effect 3". Many landmarks from Vancouver, such as Canada Place, the inlets, and mountain ranges in the background, were modeled after actual landmarks. London was the city in which the final push against the Reapers took place at the end of "Mass Effect 3". Hong Kong was another city considered for the starting point of "Mass Effect 3", and Edmonton was the location of BioWare's main studio that developed the "Mass Effect" franchise. 10. "Mass Effect 3" started on Earth with a Reaper invasion. Who was Shepard's only squad member when trying to get to the Normandy?

From Quiz The "Mass Effect 3" Story

Answer: Captain Anderson

Shepard was grounded and under house arrest for the events that happened in "Arrival", a "Mass Effect 2" downloadable content. Shepard was escorted to a hearing by James Vega, and on the way met Admiral Anderson and whichever Alliance marine survived the events in "Mass Effect" (Kaidan Alenko or Ashley Williams). Only Anderson went into the hearing with Shepard. During the hearing with the defense committee, the Reapers landed on Earth en masse, and the invasion began. Anderson and Shepard made their way through Vancouver to get to the Normandy. Once there, Anderson reinstated Shepard, and ordered the Commander to rally the galaxy against the Reapers. Anderson himself decided to stay behind to coordinate the resistance movements. James and Ashley or Kaidain were Shepard's squadmates for the first time on Mars (in "Mass Effect 3").

11. Nyreen Kandros was the first instance of what seen in a "Mass Effect" game?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: Omega"

Answer: Female turian

In the first game, apart from humans, each species was represented by only one gender. This was partially due to development resources, and partially because the art team did not know the best way to distinguish them. In "Mass Effect 2", male quarians were introduced, and in "Mass Effect 3", female salarians and krogan were first seen. It was not until the "Omega" DLC that a female turian was seen (in a video game). Female turians were seen in the "Mass Effect: Evolution" comic, released in 2011.

12. Which squad member showed up at Bryson's lab to help?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: Leviathan"

Answer: EDI, the artificial intelligence

EDI's ability to crunch numbers, sift data, and find patterns made her an invaluable asset for this investigation. One clue involved decrypting Dr. Bryson's data, and EDI was able to create a decryption key on the fly.

13. During the mission to recover the prothean artifact in "From Ashes", which group attacked Shepard?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: From Ashes"

Answer: Cerberus

The first time Shepard went to Eden Prime to recover a prothen artifact, the geth were the opposing force. This time, it was Cerberus, the pro-human terrorist organization who were willing to kill humans by the thousands to further their goals. When Shepard arrived at the dig site, the civilians had already fled or been killed by Cerberus.

14. Who was Shepard's mentor throughout the series, who decided to stay behind on Earth to lead the resistance against the Reapers?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [3]

Answer: Anderson

David Anderson started "Mass Effect" as a Captain, but had been promoted to Admiral by "Mass Effect 3". He was the original commanding officer of the Normandy, with Shepard as his executive officer. At the beginning of "Mass Effect 3", Anderson defended Shepard's actions at the trial, but the Reapers attacked during the proceedings. He send Shepard away on the Normandy to unite the galaxy against the Reapers while he stayed behind to coordinate the resistance on Earth. Through the game, Shepard could talk to Anderson in the Normandy's war room, using a quantum entanglement communication device. They would keep each other informed of new developments in their respective spheres.

15. On Mars, Cerberus infiltrated the research station by using a sophisticated AI in robotic body. What was this AI's name while working undercover?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [2]

Answer: Eva Core

The Mars research station was infiltrated by Dr. Eva Core, who was actually an undercover Cerberus android. Dr. Core let Cerberus soldier into the facility, sabotaged its security systems, and killed most of the staff. Shepard chased down Dr. Core until she was hit by a shuttle. She emerged from the crash, revealing herself as an android. Shepard stopped her and brought the body back to the Normandy for study. EDI, the Normandy's AI, took control of the body, and became a possible squadmate. Eve Core was the name of the Illusive Man's partner in the the comic "Mass Effect: Evolution".

16. Cerberus was one of the three main factions fought in "Mass Effect 3". What was the name of their large, heavy mech unit?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [1]

Answer: Atlas

Atlas mechs were large bipedal death machines with heavy cannons and rocket launchers. They were piloted by Assault Troopers and had heavy armor. Shepard could take down the shields and then shoot through the canopy to kill the pilot, leaving the mech intact. Shepard could then take control of the mech and turn it back against Cerberus. The Nemesis was the Cerberus sniper unit, the Brute was the Reaper heavy unit, and Colossi were large geth units that did not make an appearance in "Mass Effect 3".

17. Cerberus was always a crafty organization, and would equip their troops with different kits to employ varying tactics against their enemies. Which Cerberus units brought full riot shields into battle?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" Enemies [2]

Answer: Guardians

Guardians did not have shields, barriers, or armor, but they did bring full-sized riot shields to the battlefield. The shields could stop shots from most weapons (some weapons and weapon mods had armor-piercing capabilities). Guardians would walk towards their enemies to use their deadly Talon pistols, which were more like small shotguns. Guardians were particularly weak to biotics. A simple Pull would rip their shields from their hands, leaving their low health open to all other attacks. The shields had a small window near the top for the Guardians to look through. The achievement "Mail Slot" could be earned by killing Guardians ten times by shooting through this opening.

18. Cerberus was a fanatical human faction, and had a wide variety of roles for its soldiers. Which Cerberus units used sniper rifles to attack Shepard from long range?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" Enemies [1]

Answer: Nemeses

Nemeses were small women dressed entirely in black. They could still be seen at long range by their glowing red optics. Nemeses carried M-13 Raptor rifles, and would try to assassinate enemies. They had low health and shields, but their small figure and range made them difficult to hit, compared to other Cerberus troops. They also spent more time in cover than the front line soldiers.

19. What did Shepard find when on Utukku with Aralakh Company?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" Side Missions

Answer: Rachni

The Rachni were originally seen on Noveria in "Mass Effect". Shepard had the opportunity to either save the last queen, or kill her. The krogan had a history with the rachni, originally being uplifted from their homeworld to fight them in the rachni wars. Since then, the krogan have been weary and watchful of the return of the rachni. The Reapers used rachni to create Ravagers, which were armored troops with large cannons. They could also release Swarmers; smaller suicide units that would rush at enemies and explode. If Shepard saved the queen in "Mass Effect", the queen asked to be released from the Reapers' hold to help fight them, and help construct the Crucible. If the queen was killed in "Mass Effect", Shepard instead met the Breeder on Utukku, who was much more self-serving. She would initially help, but then betray Shepard, if released. The Thorian was an organism encountered on Feros in "Mass Effect". Shadow Broker Troops were seen in "The Lair of the Shadow Broker" DLC for "Mass Effect 2". The geth were the most prominent enemies in "Mass Effect", and appeared as secondary enemies in "Mass Effect 2" and "Mass Effect 3".

20. What was the name of the super weapon that the galaxy started building to destroy the Reapers?

From Quiz The "Mass Effect 3" Story [3]

Answer: The Crucible

The Prothean ruins on Mars contained vast databases. Liara and her team had managed to uncover plans to build an anti-Reaper superweapon that they called the Crucible. The Alliance began construction of the Crucible right away, and enlisted any who wanted to help. Zhu's Hope was the name of the human settlement on the world Feros, which Shepard visited in "Mass Effect". The Lazarus Project was the name of the project to revive Shepard in "Mass Effect 2". Project Overlord was a "Mass Effect 2" DLC in which Cerberus scientists tried to combine a human brain with a geth AI as a means to control the geth.

21. After escaping Earth, Shepard and the Normandy did not go to the Citadel right away. Instead they went to visit a Prothean dig site on Mars. Which familiar face did Shepard meet on Mars?

From Quiz The "Mass Effect 3" Story

Answer: Liara T'Soni

Mars was home to a large Prothean dig site. It was the discovery of these ruins that jumped humanity's technology to allow interstellar travel. Dr. Liara T'Soni, a Prothean archaeologist, was asked by the humans to help them study the wealth of information stored there. While leaving Earth, Admiral Hackett contacted the Normandy, and told Shepard to check out Mars, where possible plans for a Prothean super-weapon had recently been found. When Shepard and squad arrived, they found Cerberus troops killing the local scientists. Garrus, Mordin, and Tali were all met later, provided they survived "Mass Effect 2". Garrus showed up on Menae, Mordin on Sur'Kesh, and Tali during the resolution of the quarian-geth conflict.

22. Oleg Petrovsky, a Cerberus master tactician, was the main antagonist for the "Omega" DLC. Which game was he seen playing in his office?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: Omega"

Answer: Chess

During cutscenes, Petrovsky would move pieces around. The set in his office was not complete, so some pieces were replaced with holograms. After the mission, Aria gave the chess board to Shepard, who then kept it in the captain's cabin as a memento.

23. The first task was to find Alex Garneau, a scientist working for Bryson. How did Shepard figure out where Garneau was?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: Leviathan"

Answer: By using overlapping search parameters

Shepard could find six search parameters in the lab, but not all were useful. An overlap of Reaper activities, Eezo locations, and creature sightings led Shepard to the asteroid Mahavid. The Prothean activity, Rachni activity, and reports of blackout crimes parameters were not useful.

24. The prothean artifact turned out to contain an actual prothean in stasis: Javik. Protheans had avatars that embodied single ideals. What was Javik the avatar of?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3: From Ashes"

Answer: Vengeance

Javik was a soldier whose only goal was to destroy the Reapers. This narrow-minded, violent focus and his dismissal of anything political made him unhelpful in Shepard's quest to unite and coordinate the races of the galaxy.

25. Cerberus troopers had advanced hardware, and specialized roles. What was the name of the Cerberus sniper unit?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [3]

Answer: Nemesis

The Nemesis was the Cerberus sniper unit. They had little armour, making them difficult to hit. They carried a Raptor Sniper Rifle, but used it to fire single powerful shots, rather than a high-speed volley that the Raptor was designed for. The Assault Trooper was the basic soldier for Cerberus, Guardians would approach Shepard with riot shields, and Phantoms were dangerous biotic and sword-wielding soldiers who could cloak themselves.

26. What was the name of Vangaurd-specific biotic power that could stun all nearby enemies?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [2]

Answer: Nova

Nova was a new biotic power added in "Mass Effect 3". The user would jump up, and then slam the ground to create a biotic shockwave around them, stunning all nearby enemies. Nova depletes the user's barriers when used, leaving them vulnerable after the attack. Fortunately, the Vanguard's other signature power, Charge, can be used to instantly restore barriers.

27. There were six different classes in "Mass Effect 3" that players could choose from. Which class was know for having access to both tech and biotic powers, and for being able to use Tech Armor?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" 9 for 10 [1]

Answer: Sentinel

There were three main areas of focus: combat, tech, and biotics. Each of the six classes was either a specialist in one, or a hybrid between two. The Sentinel was the tech/biotic hybrid. Throughout the "Mass Effect" series, they were known for having incredibly strong defenses, though not necessarily large damage output. In classic RPG roles, they would be called a "tank". In "Mass Effect 2", the Sentinel gained the unique Tech Armor ability, letting them soak up massive amounts of damage, and stun nearby enemies when it depleted. Tech Armor was carried through to "Mass Effect 3" with some small tweaks.

28. Cloaking technology was becoming prominent in the galaxy, and a few enemy factions used it to their advantage. Which geth units could cloak themselves?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" Enemies [1]

Answer: Geth Hunters

Geth Hunters were armed with Geth Plasma Shotguns, and would cloak themselves to get close to their targets. When they were not cloaked, they were still painted black, and difficult to see. While players could see the distortion of a cloaked unit, they could not target it with powers. Payers had to either shoot a Geth Hunter, or fire their powers in a straight line to hit a cloaked one. A Geth Hunter would also decloak when it attacked, though that usually meant it was right beside a player, and that that player was in trouble.

29. Which former squadmember, provided they survived the previous games, was a teacher at Grissom Academy?

From Quiz "Mass Effect 3" Side Missions

Answer: Jack

The Grissom Academy was named after the first human to travel through a Mass Relay. It was a deep space station, and a school for the most advanced students humanity had to offer. It also had a special project, the Ascension Project, where humans with biotic potential cold learn to control and use their biotics. After "Mass Effect 2", Jack was offered a position with the Ascension Project, and the students reacted well to her teaching style. She became incredibly possessive and protective of her students. While Jack used to be chaotic and jump right into the fight, she advocated a more conservative approach to her students, hoping they would live longer. When Shepard asked what they should do, Jack asked that they be placed at the back of the lines for support roles, rather than at the front.

30. What component of the super weapon was Shepard sent out into the galaxy to look for?

From Quiz The "Mass Effect 3" Story [3]

Answer: The Catalyst

The Crucible plans required something called the Catalyst in order to function. Nobody knew what the Catalyst was, and Shepard was sent into the galaxy to figure it out (along with uniting the races of the galaxy against the Reapers). At the very end of the game, the Crucible was attached to the Citadel to power it. The Cipher was the essence of being a Prothean that Shepard acquired in "Mass Effect" to understand the visions from the beacons. The Conduit was a mass relay that was a back door onto the Citadel. In "Mass Effect" Saren used it to infiltrate the Citadel and take control of the station. Shepard followed him through, though, and stopped him. The Genophage was the salarian and turian solution during the Krogan Rebellions to curb the krogan's incredibly high birthrate.
